(standing backbend)

The beginning of each sun salutation sequence begins with this pose, followed by a swan dive down to the floor. It's become very meditative for me - - kind of signals my mind and body to settle into the practice.

Poorna Bhujangasana is a deep backbend where the legs are also raised from the ground with the toes touching the head that is arched backward unlike Bhujangasana where only the upper body is raised and the legs remain on the ground. Poorna (Purna) Bhujangasana strengthens back muscles and opens up the chest.

In Sanskrit “Poorna” means “Full”, “Bhujanga” which means “Serpent or snake”, and “Asana” means “pose”. The English name is “Full Cobra pose”.

happy to report i also had some insomnia last night as well. not sure what is going on, but i do not like it.

went to rusty this morning, it was a good practice. opened with the invocation; closed with chanting. i like doing forward bending before doing backbends. my crouching warrior is getting stronger. my bakasana is getting stronger; i can shoot back to plank and keep my arms mostly straight now. i am sad my time with rusty is coming to an end.

My walkovers aren't great, but they're actually surprisingly better than they used to be. When I first started doing headstands, Erin and I practiced walkovers, which mostly involved falling, though we worked our way up into something that could be considered a slight backbend. Today, after watching a video yesterday that really made sense to me, I tried it again. It's not about falling backward, it's about stepping down.

It's harder than you think.
