While driving the back roads of Middle Tennessee, I came across this old home with the clothes hanging on the lines, stopped, met the mother of all these children ( + 4 more who all came out when they saw me) and asked permission to take a few shots. This one was taken as I was leaving. A quick shot when all had turned their attention back to their normal activities. For a while. I had the feeling that I was back in the 40's seeing life as it was then in rural Tennessee. I tried to select an effect using ON1 that would give the impression that the shot was actually taken during that time. The old shed on the right (from and earlier shot that day) was layered over a more modern aluminum type storage building.

Almost lost in darkness, the sun shines its bounty on the metal shapes next to glass. Curves appear as a chair shows off its lovely contours and the table gives a hint of its presence. Lot's of negative space and the weight of elements within the frame add drama. Contrast provides energy - a silhouette of light and dark. Color detracted, so it's gone. Doesn't take a lot to make things interesting.

A view that typifies the narrow back streets of the larger cities in Malta. There is usually plenty of colour, most houses sport colourful balconies, everything is built of warm sandstone and Land Rover Defenders are still plentiful.
One of my (many) favorite places is my back porch, especially after mosquito season when the bug-tent has been taken down.

Went to the Botanical Garden yesterday to find some signs of Spring and I found some ;-) It was a beautiful Spring like day but now we are back to colder temperatures and maybe some snow tomorrow night!
I'm behind again but will try to catch up!
Have a fantastic day!
I arrived back home yesterday after a wonderful ten days in the Sarasota/Venice area of Florida to visit my parents. They were very patient...taking me around to all the places I wanted to visit and stopping the car whenever I yelled out that there was a bird or animal I just had to photograph. I keep asking myself....who else would be so good about that? I really needed to get away from our cold Toronto weather, thanks for a great vacation :)
I had a busy schedule while I was there, making the most of my time and chasing good light.
I also had the opportunity to spend time with Gary, one of my long-time flickr contacts who was gracious with his time and knowledge. I feel very lucky. He made this trip one that I will never forget and I can't thank him enough.
Wish I was still there...

Takugo and Leon both rekindled my love for photography. I can never be grateful enough to you two. Can’t wait for this new chapter of my life.
I managed to put my hands on a Fuji X-E4. Since abandoning photography about 7 years ago, I never thought this day would come.
Professor Wojtek and Hernán, I’m ready for class! Haha
Antonin, let's do it please!
Well, I'm going back to skewl tomorrow, so expect a little less stuff from me.
P.S. Sorry for the cruddy pic.
P.S.S. This is my siggy, and I used the satchel because it's cool and stuff.
That is all.
The Green Block on Lexington Avenue in Elkhart, Indiana has a back door that is just amazing. It is my impression that this was taken from an old Victorian mansion that was torn down a while back and put in the Italianate style Green Block, otherwise known as the Smith Frye Building. Built in 1895, the building is part of the Elkhart Downtown Historic Commercial District:

The yellow brick is typical of that seen in Nineteenth century buildings in Elkhart and is known as "Chicago Common brick." I am not sure if this is the same as "Cream City brick" from Wisconsin but I have been told that it made its way as far as Elkhart but does not appear very often east of there in Goshen, IN.
