My Minolta SRT 102 is back from a CLA. Viewfinder is clean now, spacing between shots is good with no overlapping, and curtain opens properly to fully expose each frame.

After almost 3 months of being out of service due to a traction motor blowing up we see the 1004 3 weeks after being put back in service working hard in Vidalia on a long freight.

Leaf beetle adults range from 5 to 15 mm in length and are brightly coloured. They have different body shapes, from elongate, flattened to globular. Some may be mistaken for ladybird beetles due to their oval shape. Their antenna usually less than half the length of their bodies. One of their characteristics is that they can hide their legs and antennae under their wing covers while sitting on a leaf.

I'm going to miss this little one when it stops visiting.

After a much needed break, I found myself back on SL since last week.

It's been a rough road IRL for the past few years with a lot of physical and mental challenges. I had to focus on myself, and I'm finally getting to where I should be.

What does this mean? We'll see soon and hopefully things will grow from here!

So many new things to learn on SL and the changes I see cosmetically look great! I've been here since around July 2003 during beta days and never imagined being on this long nor seeing these massive changes.

I never had doubt that SL would die in a short time as I used to spend every day for years straight...some days with 4 hours...other days with 24 hours whether developing or simply having fun with friends.

But right now, it looks like I finally feel safe to say that I am back. So hi :)

With St. Botolph's Church toward the distance on the left, & St. James Passage, formerly Church Passage, on the right.

At 1:35 AM on the 30th of September 1888, Joseph Levy, Joseph Lawende, & Harry Harris were leaving the Jewish Imperial Club on Duke Street (which was up the street behind me) when they noticed a man standing with a woman at the entrance to Church Passage (probably about where the squared cover on the ground is). The woman had her back to the men.

Catherine Eddowes was found horribly mutilated in the south west corner of Mitre Square at 1:45 AM.

Lawende was shown some of Eddowes's clothes & thought they were the same as what the woman he saw was wearing. He doubted whether he would recognise this man again if he saw him.

Harris didn't pay particular attention to the couple, & Levy pointed the couple out & said ""Look there, I don't like going home by myself when I see those characters about."

The Back to Back houses, Birmingham. 23rd June 2023.

Off and on for the past two weeks we have been hearing a sporadic pre-dawn squawk of a yellow-crowned night heron in the pine tree at the corner of our house; yet no heron could be found in the morning light. It's the season when we daily search the limbs looking for the whole colony that returns from the previous year to repair their nests and raise the next generation. (Some of you may remember them from last year's posts.) But where are the rest of them? Finally, this morning - the full chorus! So far I have counted 14! Because of their proximity in the yard, we can't avoid being entertained by each other. They do what birds do at this time of year and we laugh. I do what I do - perch on my ladder in contorting positions with my camera and they seem equally entertained. =))

The back tracks of Hanoi, Vietnam. Reflections of reflections in the wake of new directions; remembering the beginning of a journey, and how if you were to never have set out than you would disappear from that scene before your eyes as if you were never there. But that scene before you, has become your reason for having made it so far, and your reason to keep going; the beauty of an afternoon and how it can become everything you stand for.

Niccy and I just got back from a transatlantic cruise so I've finally got some shots to post!

The VASTASO (IMO: 9328443) is a Tug and is sailing under the flag of Italy. Her length overall (LOA) is 32.5 meters and her width is 10.8 meters.

In this shot she's helping out the MSC Caterina who was making a tight turn in the Civitavecchia Cruise Port area. There were actually three tugs helping her out, pretty sure I've got pictures of the other two as well!

Maple Ridge, BC

Canada

Located along the shore of the Fraser River in Maple Ridge, the lower section of Kanaka Creek is an easy walk, popular with local residents and dog walkers.

From the gravel parking lot, walk to the left side and follow the raised path as it loops around next to Kanaka Creek. The wooden viewpoint offers an opportunity to do some bird watching and enjoy the view of the winding creek and surrounding park area.

Continue along the path until you reach the Fraser River. To the left, the path follows alongside the river until reaching an industrial area. To the right, the trail heads into the trees and continues along a path, offering occasional glimpses of the passing boats.

Walk past the wooden bridge on your right and onto a wooden viewpoint that overlooks the Fraser River. After enjoying the view, walk a few steps back along the path and cross the wooden bridge over Kanaka Creek. Once on the other side, stay to your left and follow the main trail that continues alongside the shore before passing a picnic area and heading back in land.

Watch for the Nature Trail on your right as this route loops back to the wooden bridge across Kanaka Creek. Once at the bridge, retrace your steps back to the junction and along the trail, passing the wooden viewpoint and returning to the parking area.

PM 1225 is under steam for some tests ahead of the up coming busy NPE season just over a month away. A couple of us decided to come back after dark and try some night angles of the mighty berk. With the berk being positioned on the table it game the the chance to throw the flashes behind it to try some back lit silhouette still flashing.

This appears to be a Ladder-backed Woodpecker.

When traveling through the scattered cactus and mesquite of the arid southwestern U.S., it’s difficult to believe that these almost treeless habitats are home to woodpeckers. But the Ladder-backed (once known as the “Cactus Woodpecker”) is an attractive dweller of deserts, desert scrub, and thorn forests. It can also be found in pinyon pine and pinyon-juniper forest. Like many small dwellers of arid habitats, Ladder-backed Woodpeckers can be inconspicuous and quiet, requiring a bit of time and patience to find. Their small size and agility make them deft foragers among the thorns and spines of plants like cholla, mesquite, and prickly pear.

So, what's he doing in my back yard? Sorry I couldn't get a better image, but it was a spur-of-the-moment thing! At least Woody doesn't mind the colorful grasshopper!

It is very difficult to get a shot of the Cloud Gate without people but somehow I managed to get one at night (hand held - didn't had my tripod with me). Here are some info on the Cloud Gate - which also calls silver bean : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_gate

Will catch up with everybody soon! View in lightbox if you have a moment.
