We have a Magnolia tree in our garden. The sun sets behind it and I loved the way the light shows up the hairs on it.
It's always good to go back and study your basics. Especially when learning a new riding system! Nox is really enjoying his new Shetland Pet-to-Avatar conversion and wanted to join a beginner's working equitation class today to make sure he keeps a strong foundation.

The little Merlin was back again this morning when I went to go out with my camera. He was there having "leftovers" from his kill yesterday of one the darker coloured pigeons that comes to our feeder.
Taken with a Sigma 150-500 f5-6.3 lens on a Canon EOS 5D Mark II.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my little space here on Flickr.

This Woodpecker was formerly called the Arctic Woodpecker or Black-backed Three-toed Woodpecker. It does have only three toes which is a characteristic it shares with the American Three-toed Woodpecker (Picoides dorsalis) which can also be found here. This one is a female. I added a recent shot of a male in the first comment box for comparison. Note the yellow crown.
This species eats mainly wood-boring insects which it obtains by scaling bark from trees to expose the holes created by those insects. If you look to the left of the bird, you can see the exposed boring holes in the area where the bark was removed. The Woodpecker inserts its long barbed tongue to extract a meal.
We usually find these ones by listening for the irregular tapping and tearing sounds created by the scaling activity. Falling bark chips are also a good tell.
This is how Lee and I found this one today.

One of the 18 Jubilees transferred to 17B Burton shed in November 1961 was 45585 Hyderabad. Looking at the external condition it seems likely that this was one that spent most of the time at Burton stored out of use. The winter of 1962/63 saw several stored locos brought back into action and here 45585 heads 3V20, the Derby to Bristol Parcels past the long closed platforms at Branston.
Despite the terrible external condition the loco seems in good mechanical order with a complete lack of leaking steam. Maybe the reason it was transferred to Derby shed in January 1963.

Squirrels are generally small animals, ranging in size from the African pygmy squirrel at 7–10 cm (2.8–3.9 in) in length and just 10 g (0.35 oz) in weight, to the Alpine marmot, which is 53–73 cm (21–29 in) long and weighs from 5 to 8 kg (11 to 18 lb).
This is a shot of Torre Agbar in Barcelona. It was taken back in 2015 on my way back from Valencia. Even in November the weather in Barcelona - just as it was in Valencia was warm with clear blue skies - not at all what I'd hoped for, but you have to shoot what you can - hence the large number of darker shots recently. This is probably the last of them for now. I did manage one day of overcast weather in Barcelona before I headed down to Valencia - but thats for another post.
The strange title has multiple meanings at the moment. My trip to Spain was successful, 1 day Barcelona, then 3 in Valencia and then another day in Barcelona on the way back, but I missed so much that I wanted to shoot - that I really want to head back at some point - the dilema being do I go back to somewhere I've already been or do I go somewhere new - I have a bucket list a mile long. I think new next - but we'll see.
The other meaning is a little more painful. I haven't taken a single photograph in the last 6 weeks - in fact since I came back from New York and I haven't processed anything in that time either. My back has gone again - and thius time its serious enough that I need surgery - next week in fact, and then there a 12 week recovery period - so it looks like its going to be summer before I'm able to get back out with my camera - its really annoying - we had snow yesterday - and allI could do was look at it from indoors. Still once Wednesday is over then its looking forward to recovery.
Anyway thank you all very much for your recent support with my shots, hopefully I'll post more soon.

Somewhere along the back roads of Seeley's Bay, where the nights are dark and the stars are plentiful. This is a 3 shot panorama with a little light painting to illuminate the foreground.
So happy Aurelia could finally come back to SL and restart working on MOLiCHNO collection! I totally adore her style and admire her talent. Hopefully more posts will follow showing you the work of this delicate and classy designer.

Fantastic background of Neva River.
London's role in the Russian Revolution:
In August 1903, a small band of dedicated but argumentative political activists held a fractious conference in London.
It consisted of Vladimir Lenin, Leon Trotsky and about 50 other committed agitators who wanted to overthrow the autocratic rule of the Russian Tsar. Their quarrels might have seemed minor at the time, but they have rippled out across history.
This was when the Russian revolutionary movement divided into the two rival factions of Bolsheviks and Mensheviks. And a key vote happened in a pub in Islington.
