Birmingham past and present 1 of 2.
The Back To Backs, shops and terraced houses dating back to Victorian times. A few of these are preserved by the National Trust and are well worth visiting. It’s quite an eye opener to see how people lived in very cramped conditions, with working families sharing communal washrooms and courtyards. Tours can be booked with the National Trust, my U3A photography group did one a few years back and found it very interesting. Highly recommended.
This image was from a few years back...with my firstborn at the wheel...traveling the back roads of Colorado in July...amazing scenery EVERYWHERE and a nature lovers paradise...within ten minutes of this scene we were in the middle of a TEMPEST of a storm..trying to photograph the dramatic clouds in the skies everywhere...eleven people lost their lives that day we found out later...Seems these sudden storms are quite prevalent there...a few hours to see such beauty ...not nearly enough!!! One of my favourite shots of Back Beach in Bunbury, WA. The light caught my eye (and still does).... repost to make a point.
UP 587 is seen in the evening crawling east to Truckee at Casa Loma. That same morning, 587 had made a westbound run from Truckee to Roseville with two other GP38s. Those other motors would be dropped off in Roseville then the 587 would turn around and head east back to Truckee.

This is the last straw, I'm throwing in the towel. I'm use to things not going my way, I was just born unlucky. But seriously.. like seriously? Some how all my photos on my iPhoto got deleted, all you photographers can imagine how upsetting this is. All those photos gone, that I didn't back-up yet. My wisdom teeth hurt. My school didn't receive my payment for my classes. And ugh soo many other things. I just give-up.
Take one day at a time, they say. Forget what they say, lets go back to yesterday.

The spectacular whale-back ridge of Suilven hidden from view.
My dog Bert and I spent a couple of days walking in Assynt, mainly around Suilven. It was a rather memorable walk.
Midge attacks, knee deep bog, disappointing weather followed by the most amazing light I have seen in a long time.....

I had a somewhat crazy idea to try and make a sunrise in Torridon this morning. Thankfully Iain made me see sense, along with the realisation I would need to be leaving home around 0145! However, the thought that I hadn't really made the effort to shoot either sunrise or sunset, at least not successfully, for several months was playing on my mind so when I woke just before 0400 and there was a hint of colour in the sky, I grabbed my gear and headed down to Findhorn's back shore. I think the colour was already waning well before I arrived and the tide was a little further out than hoped but it was still a good feeling to have given it a go and a brief burst of sunlight as it broke through a cloud layer gave me something for my efforts.

Having safely descended the treacherous grade off Millstone Hill via the switchback Vermont Rail System's Washington County Railroad crew is headed west at MP 8.1 on the Montpelier and Barre Division. They are crossing South Main Street (VT Route 14) wirh seven loads of granite armor rock from the Northeast Materials quarry trailing green GMRC 804 (a GP9r blt. Oct. 1955 as NW 13) and red VTR 206 (a GP38-3 206 blt. Oct. 1969 as SOU 2718 and originally a high nosed straight GP38). At the small yard in downtown Barre they will pick up more loads then head into Montpelier where the whole string will temporarily be left while they run light down to Montpelier Junction to pull empties from the NECR interchange.
This is the historic Barre Railroad mainline opened in 1888 as the famed 'Sky Route' funded by local interests to reach the quarries. Here is a great historic article from 1889 about this railroad:

Vermont Railway's GMRC 264 descends into the final stretch before Rutland at North Clarendon. VTR 432, GMTX 2684.
This is a back burn operation in the Hawkesbury, NSW, Australia. We are approaching spring and summer with little significant rainfall and a fuel load that could be disastrous. I saw the potential for some late afternoon photography and took my chances.
This particular image is an 8 shot vertical HDR pano that I have edited in LR & PS.
Western Australia has some of the most beautiful sunsets... this one is at Back Beach in Bunbury, WA with the Marlston Lighthouse seen in the distance... captured with my first, full frame Nikon DSLR... the D700
Elizabeth has been happy to be back home with her daughter Tulley, for whom she purchased a wooden toy duck while in Munich, Germany. Also in the photo are Tulley's playmates, Kyle and Bonnie (children of friends "Booley" and Maddy). Where are their parents? Off enjoying their freedom from parenting now that "Aunt Stick" is back in town. ;)
