The Rover SD1 the SD1 refers to Specialist Division and 1 is the first car to come from the in-house design team).was designed by Spen King and David Bache. The radical shape, resembled a Ferrari Daytona, but was designed with simplicity of manufacture in mind in contrast to the outgoing P6.To the point of reverting to a live rear axle and drum brakes at the rear.

Initially realed in June 1976 as a 3528cc V8 and was warmly praised by the press, winning the title European Car of the Year for 1977.

In 1982 Rover unveiled the Cowley-built, facelifted line to the public. These cars benefited mostly from small cosmetic changes on the exterior as well as a quite extensively redesigned interior. the facelift cars have redesigned headlamps with chromed rims and flush fitting on the later, recessed on the earlier series, the deeper rear window now fitted with a rear wash wipe, and the new plastic wrap around bumpers which replaced the three piece rubber and stainless steel ones. Along with the facelift came a rash of new models, including the flagship 190bhp fuel-injected version of its V8. engine the new derivative was originally only available in the Vitesse model, but from 1984 onwards it was also offered in the luxury Vanden Plas. Very rare are the Twin Plenum Vitesses; these had two throttle bodies mounted on the plenum chamber instead of one, and were produced in very small numbers as homologation for the twin plenum racers.

*This car was originally a Rover SD1 2000 and has been modified with a 5000cc V8 engine

The SD1 (Specialist Division No.1) was a huge stylistic leap from the previous P6 models, with the only carry over being the ex-Buick light alloy V8 engine of 155bhp. Designed by David Bache and Spen King, with less sophisticated engineering than the P6, suspension was by McPherson front struts and rear live axle, Braking, front discs, rear drums. But the car handled well and gave a good ride Its shape was influenced by the Ferrari Daytona and 365GTC-4 and the late 1960s design study by Pininfarina for the BMC 1800, which also guided the design of the Citroën CX..

Between 1976 and 1981 there were some very minor updates to the car including new badging (front and rear) and chrome backed door mirrors. Mid-1979 saw the introduction of the then range-topping V8-S model with no mechanical alterations, available with some very striking colours with either gold or silver-painted alloy wheels depending on the body color

Inj 1982 their was a a further facelift, coinciding with a production relocation from Solihull to Cowley These cars benefited mostly from small cosmetic changes on the exterior as well as a quite extensively redesigned interior. Car spotters can distinguish the two series by the headlights, which were chrome-rimmed and flush fitting on the later, recessed on the earlier series, the deeper rear window, now fitted with a rear wash wipe, and the new plastic wrap around bumpers which replaced the three-piece rubber and stainless steel ones.

Initially the only engine option was the 3528cc V8, with straight six SOHC of 2350cc designated as a2.3 L and a 2597cc designated 2.6 L although at this point there were no four cylinder engines in the SD1 range, British Leyland produced 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2 versions of the smaller Princess in order to compete with the entry-level versions of the Ford Granada, as well as more expensive versions of the Ford Cortina. In 1982 the four cylinder Rover (SD1) 2000 was launched powered by a 1994cc O Series of the Morris Ital targeting company car fleets where its size enabled it to beat a taxation threshold. This broadened the SD1 range and made it more affordable to potential buyers, giving British Leyland an all-round rival to the Ford Granada, Another four-cylinder engine became available in the 90 bhp (67 kW; 91 PS) Rover 2400 SD Turbo becoming the only Diesel engine in the range. The flagship model was created when Rover introduced a 190 bhp (142 kW; 193 PS) fuel-injected version of its V8. Borrowing from technologies pioneered in the US and Australian markets (where strict emissions regulations meant the inclusion of high compression carburetted engines was not feasible) the new derivative was originally only available in the Vitesse model, but from 1984 onwards it was also offered in the luxury Vanden Plas range, as the Vanden Plas EFi

The SD1 was popular with British police forces, particularly in V8 form. West Yorkshire Police were the first police force to use the SD1. When SD1 production was ceasing, police forces stockpiled a number of the cars for later use, to be introduced over the late 1980s

Austin Montego Mayfair 2.0 EFi (1988-94) Engine 1994cc S4 OC Production 546,000+

Registration Number C 396 CWL (Oxford)

Designed and developed by Ian Beech, David Bache, Roger Tucker and Roy Axe originally under project number LC10 along with the Austin Maestro.

The Montego emerged as BLs candidate for the volume saloon sales market, pitched against the Ford Cortina and Vauxhall Cavalier. The Montego was designed on conventional lines with steel spring suspension front and rear.

Available with 1.3 BMC A series and 1.6, 2.0 and a lusty 2.0ltr Perkins Turbo Diesel. A roomy car with adequate performance from the larger engined cars. The range also included a roomy Estate version with larger luggage capacity than its competitors, two additional rear-facing child seats and self-levelling suspension, also styled by Roy Axe, followed shortly and received instant acclaim, winning the company a Design Council award

Trim levels varied with this Vanden Plas and the Mayfair editions being top of the line.

Following a minor facelift in 1989 which introduced the seven seater Countryman and the Perkins Diesel engine to the line up the Austin name was dropped in favour of Rover. Though the car never wore the Rover name or badge, using instead a stylised badge resembling that of Rover.

Here we see the Land Rover department, most probably the Land Rover Santana, manufactured in Spain.

In 1958 the Spanish company 'Metalúrgica de Santa Ana SA' started to built Land Rover Series under license. Initially this happened in CKD form: parts were shipped and assembled in the Spanish plant.

From 1968 the company started to built their own versions of the Land Rover models. From then the company was renamed as 'Land Rover Santana'.

Over the years the Land Rover Santana versions had more and more own produced parts, with different technical solutions and different details.

Santana Motor Company ended in 1983 the license agreement but continued producing Land Rover-like vehicles.

The last Land Rover model (a Defender) was manufactured in 1994, when the company chose for a cooperation with Suzuki.

After a "PNB" at a nearby Tesco store (other supermarkets are available), the sun cleared the slow-moving cloud just after 3pm. I was heading for some early evening shots on the New Brighton branch, but looked in at Bache, Capenhurst and Hooton stations on the way. At Bache the railway is on an embankment, with the main road going underneath at the northern end of the station, but I took some record shots from the platform as the sun angle was correct, one of which is illustrated here. There's nothing special architecturally about the station, but the footbridge made a nice frame and the station was clean and tidy. There was nothing special about Capenhurst, which was also in shadow (trees), while at Hooton the sun was now getting a little too side-on to properly light the front of the train and the stonework on the road bridge as the train entered the station; I took a record shot and then left, with the intention of coming back on my planned day on the Wirral (which didn't happen - so it will be one for another occasion).

Designed by Spen King, Gordon Bashford and David Bache, the new Rover P6 represented a design aimed at appealing to a wider clientelle than the traditional Rover buyer. The design was advanced for the time with a de Dion tube suspension at the rear, four-wheel disc brakes (inboard on the rear), and a fully synchromesh transmission. The unibody design featured non-stressed panels bolted to a unit frame, inspired by the Citroën DS. The de Dion set-up was unique in that the "tube" was in two parts that could telescope, thereby avoiding the need for sliding splines in the drive shafts,

The Mark II 2200 SC and TC were the final version of the successful Rover P6 model with its enlarged overhead cam engine producing 98 bhp (SC) or 115bhp (TC) against the 89 and 110 bhp of the earlier 2000 SC and TC P6, the two only have tiny detail differances but have a strengthened transmission to cope with the extra torque, plus a larger ( 15 gallon) fuel tank bringing in line with the 3500.

The Series II, or Mark II as it was actually named by Rover, was launched in 1970. All variants carried the battery in the boot and had new exterior fixtures such as a plastic front air intake (to replace the alloy version), new bonnet pressings (with V8 blips even for the 4-cylinder-engined cars) and new rear lights. The interior of the 3500 and 2000TC versions was updated with new instrumentation

On a day trip to Lake Clearwater to take some snow shots. We left before dawn so we could catch the morning sun on the mountains. Canterbury High Country June 27, 2015 New Zealand. It was -7c here!

Lake Clearwater is a place of relative peace and solitude. Motor powered craft are not permitted on the lake however rowboats, kayaks, and windsurfers can be used. The strong and consistent winds funnelling off the mountains are a slice of heaven for windsurfers.

A small village of around 100 holiday homes (or baches as they are called in New Zealand) are located on the ground that seperates Lake Clearwater from Lake Camp, a two minute walk away. Overnight camping is permitted at a basic reserve area situated on the South end of Lake Clearwater, providing toilet facilities and water (required to be boiled for drinking).

The last vehicle designed during André Citroën’s lifetime, the Citroën Type 23 is above all the vehicle with the longest life in the catalog of the brand, remaining in production from 1935 to 1969, in two versions of bodywork. Designed by Flaminio Bertoni like the Traction, it uses its stylistic codes but also its engine, albeit mounted in rear-wheel drive. Restyled after the war, it is was then called U23. Put into circulation in 1952, the U23 that we propose to you was purchased by Citroën for its 50 years, in 2002. Its dashboard is no longer original and it is missing its ignition wire set and the igniter. A complete restoration will be necessary to bring back to life this monument of French automotive history.
