The River Axe once emptied into a large estuary, which ships used to ride up to harbours at Seaton and Axmouth. Then, in the fourteenth century a great storm threw up a shingle bank which shut the mouth of the estuary entirely. No attempt to reopen the harbours was successful and eventually the locals had to settle for a small berth on the edge of the sea. Even this occassionally closes off when the tide throws up more shingle. As soon as one person walks across the shingle bank blocking the harbour it collapses and the water flows again.
Cleaning up after a massive flood. Note the use of the axe, and the distinct lack of chainsaws. This is doing it Old School.

Tonight saw a lot of my company's staff heading to Strike Bowling for a kick-off to the new financial year.
A great night of food, booze, bowling, pool, and horse-riding.
All "natural" light. No flash added. Just good, old fashioned ISO800.
The cocktail plus the 6 odd screwdrivers plus waaaay to much pastry means this will have to do for today's /365.

Anyone know the brand of this axe
Here's a rather nice axe that I found recently. The head was not fitted to a shaft and despite some rust and a small dent at the low end of the edge, I think it might not even have been used.
I've made a shaft of a piece of straight grained birch from my firewood pile, and although the handle needs some slight modification and a more aggressive curve around the grip area near the knob, it works rather well with this head.
The axe itself is very nice. The head is forged and provides a distinct ringing sound when struck with something metal. Although it is sharpened on both sides of the head, it works very well for stock preparation and creating rough shapes.
The one thing I don't know is the name of the maker of this axe. The ead has a logotype which looks like an animal footprint with seven digits. Although this can occur amongst cats I'm not sure a cat is the inspiration. But if you happen to know whick maker used this logotype, I'd be happy to know it.
The opposite side of the head is marked "2 1/2". This could be related to the weight of the head. 2 1/2 lbs is about 2100 grams, and my axe weighs a tad more than 2200 grams including the handle.
If the number relates to weight, then I would guess the axe head was made either in the Commonwealth countries or in the United States.
The bit is 6 inches wide.

Her opponent (2 years older and 2 belts higher) was trying for a defensive spin side kick - didn't make it... This shot ended the match by point ceiling.

Taken in a blacksmith's forge. Axes and tools hand made in the forge on an anvil.

At the re-opening of the Craig Mill brewery there was rural crafts, axe throwing, ferret racing, some ancient scots and much more.....
As requested. Except I am not in it. I couldn't work out how to do that.
Anyway, I need to get better at sharpening, but I'm clearly not totally rubbish. It's a nice little axe, works beautifully on the smaller trees. Probably could have done with a bigger, heavier head for the bigger elms.
The handle is covered in my blood, not from a cut but an exploded blood blister. Lovely.
