This is from a German encampment. As I was working on the picture, it occurred to me that this might be some obscure nazi symbolism. After all, it's THREE axes. I can see one axe in the tree. But THREE? So I showed the picture to Grok and asked about nazi symbolism. Grok gave me a nice discussion about axes as symbols, but it's pretty much cross-culture, and there isn't any unsavory tie-in.
Grok also said it was a nice picture. So I got that going for me, which is nice. 😜
Now, I'm off to watch NASCAR.

Le pont du Mont-Blanc, la Vieille-ville et la cathédrale Saint-Pierre, canton de Genève, Suisse. Une vue de la rive gauche (sud) à partir du débarcadère Genève-Pâquis sur la rive droite du lac Léman.
Le pont du Mont-Blanc est le pont situé le plus en amont sur le Rhône, directement à sa sortie du lac Léman dont il marque la fin. Reliant deux axes routiers principaux sur les deux rives de la ville — rue de Chantepoulet - rue du Mont-Blanc pour la rive droite et avenue Pictet-de-Rochemont - quai Gustave-Ador sur la rive gauche.
La Vieille-ville s’est développée autour de sa cathédrale. Elle est depuis 1536 l'église protestante principale de Genève, se dépouillant alors pour l’essentiel de son exubérante décoration catholique intérieure. Auparavant, elle fut pendant mille ans (dès la fin du 4e siècle) l'église cathédrale de l'évêque de Genève.
L’actuel bâtiment a été reconstruit entre les 12e et 15e siècles, et son portail modifié au 18e siècle. Ce qui explique qu’elle affiche un mélange de styles. Principalement gothique, elle intègre des éléments romans antérieurs comme ses deux tours qui rendent son portail néoclassique du 18e s. quelque peu incongru. La cathédrale est aussi un « temple civique » où se tient l'assermentation du gouvernement cantonal (Conseil d'État). Elle a été inscrite en juillet 2009 dans la liste d'honneur « du patrimoine européen » en raison de son importante valeur historico-culturelle pour l’histoire européenne.
Genève est la deuxième ville la plus peuplée de Suisse et la deuxième place financière du pays après Zurich. Elle est considérée comme la plus importante au monde en matière de gestion de fortune privée trans-nationale et s’impose entre autres comme la première place mondiale pour le négoce du pétrole. Du fait de son rôle à la fois politique et économique, elle fait partie des « villes mondiales ». Elle est le siège européen des Nations Unis et le lieu de naissance de la Croix-Rouge internationale.

Thought provoking that this looks the same as it did 3000 yrs ago when a bloke with fur rugs on was knapping stones and sitting on those rocks high up in the fells surveying and being more familiar than most of us today about his surrounds!!
Tucked away off the path on the way up Glaramara lies the remamnants of a stone axe factory .. probably looking very much like it did on the day the last man in furs left the site. The stone scalpings are still lying there and the rock where they must have sat is reasonably comfortable. Everyone is more familiar with the one of Pike o Stickle, but unbeknown to most there are many scattered around the Scafells and outlying ridges where outcropping of hornblende arises.
This is the site of what might be called the first recognisable 'industry' in the British Isles. The scree slopes here were quarried some 5,000 years ago for the raw materials for stone axes, which were then shaped and eventually ended up distributed round the country.
The first settlers in the Lake District came to the area by sea. They moved inland along the rivers, and along the way discovered the area we call Langdale and its greenstone volcanic tuff. They made polished axe heads with it. From here, the axe heads were exported, presumably through trading. There is a track leading east along the ridge from the site that may well date from the 'factory' period.
A study of stone axe heads from all over England and Wales came up with the surprising discovery that 27% were made of Great Langdale tuff and therefore originated from this site. Most such axe heads were found in Lincolnshire and the East Midlands area but many were found much further afield — in Northern Ireland and even Poland.
A number of the axe heads from Langdale were found in wet places — marshes, streams, etc. and showed no sign of having been used. This may indicate that they had been placed in significant spots as some kind of religious offering.
A word of warning: this site is high up and on unstable slopes of loose rock, making it a dangerous place. Not one for a family outing. And please note that it is against the law to remove anything from this site.

“Axe of Kindness” - I’d been wanting to photograph this truck for a long time, as I pass by it every trip to Salida. I finally squeezed onto the shoulder of Highway 285 near the summit of Poncha Pass and took some shots. I didn’t notice what the side of the truck door said until I got home and expanded the Image which is a sticker saying “Axe of Kindness”. There appears to be much symbolism around the saying.

L'Axe majeur est une œuvre monumentale située à Cergy1, dans le département du Val-d'Oise, en France. Elle s'inscrit dans une boucle de l'Oise, au centre de la ville nouvelle de Cergy-Pontoise. L’œuvre est conçue par le sculpteur israélien Dani Karavan à partir de 1980, ses premiers éléments apparaissant au cours des années 1980.
Sa réalisation connaît une longue période de creux jusqu'au milieu des années 2000 où sont réalisées les stations du bord de l'Oise. Inachevé par rapport aux divers plans créés, l'Axe est composé de douze stations sur une longueur de 3,2 kilomètres, incluant une tour penchée, un ensemble de douze colonnes, une passerelle, une île ou encore un rayon laser qui survole le parcours. Il débute dans le quartier auquel il a donné son nom, Axe Majeur - Horloge (anciennement Saint-Christophe) et s'achève à la limite avec Neuville-sur-Oise, après avoir survolé les étangs artificiels de Cergy-Neuville.
Symbole de la ville nouvelle, il est également l'une des œuvres importantes de Dani Karavan, qui accompagne sa construction pendant plus de trente ans. Il est par ailleurs lieu de tournage de film, de plusieurs clips de rap, et accueille un défilé de mode en 2021.
