L'Axe majeur est une œuvre monumentale située à Cergy1, dans le département du Val-d'Oise, en France. Elle s'inscrit dans une boucle de l'Oise, au centre de la ville nouvelle de Cergy-Pontoise. L’œuvre est conçue par le sculpteur israélien Dani Karavan à partir de 1980, ses premiers éléments apparaissant au cours des années 1980. Sa réalisation connaît une longue période de creux jusqu'au milieu des années 2000 où sont réalisées les stations du bord de l'Oise. Inachevé par rapport aux divers plans créés, l'Axe est composé de douze stations sur une longueur de 3,2 kilomètres, incluant une tour penchée, un ensemble de douze colonnes, une passerelle, une île ou encore un rayon laser qui survole le parcours. Il débute dans le quartier auquel il a donné son nom, Axe Majeur - Horloge (anciennement Saint-Christophe) et s'achève à la limite avec Neuville-sur-Oise, après avoir survolé les étangs artificiels de Cergy-Neuville. Symbole de la ville nouvelle, il est également l'une des œuvres importantes de Dani Karavan, qui accompagne sa construction pendant plus de trente ans.

Pictures from this year's first Traditional Timber Framing and Full Scribe Log building course. We were building a Norwegian log cabin taught by Norwegian carpenter Marius Holje. As well students built a massive French style timber frame structure from heavy larch timbers using French and Japanese scribe rule centre line layout system. Log building was build using only axes and chisels. No saws were used to cut the joints.
Shot in a dark room with a flash controlled by a microphone. Car windows are hard to break. We tried several times with an iron ball before resorting to the axe.

Lynton & Barnstaple Railway: Joffre class tank engine 0-6-0T No.2451 Axein the maintenance yard at Woody Bay station, North Devon. Coal and water have just been taken on board and the loco is leaving the yard to join its train.
Note the semaphore ground signal.
This loco was built by Kerr Stuart in 1915 for military service during the First World War (i.e. as a 'Feldbahn' loco) on the Western Front. All L&BR steam locomotives, present and past, carry or carried names of Devon rivers having only three alphabet characters. SUMMARY OF THE LINE
Originally opened in 1898, and closed in 1935, the existing stretch of line at Woody Bay is currently the beginning of a project to rebuild one of the world's most famous and picturesque narrow-gauge railways. Original gauge 1 ft 11+1⁄2 in (597 mm), now 1 ft 11+5⁄8 in (600 mm). Original length of line slightly over 19 miles (31 km). At current time, the restored line is 0.9-mile (1.4 km) long from Woody Bay, westwards to Killington Lane. Plans are in hand to extend to 9 miles (14 km) of track, linking the station at Woody Bay eastwards to Lynton (at a new terminus on an extension to the original line, closer to the town) and westwards to Blackmoor Gate, and to a new station at Wistlandpound Reservoir.
