Der Tschaika (russisch: Чайка für Möwe) ist eine Luxuslimousine des Herstellers Gorkowski Awtomobilny Sawod (russisch Горьковский автомобильный завод (ГАЗ), engl.

Duesenberg is most often associated with its later Model J automobiles, but it was the Model A, built from 1922-’26, that gave the company its start as an automaker. In between came the Model X, of which 13 were initially planned and just four were built. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Peter Heydon and his late wife, Rita, the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum has been gifted what many have called “the rarest of Duesenbergs,” a one-of-one built 1927 Model X Boat Roadster that would play an influential role in Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg history.

The Duesenberg brothers proved more adept at racing cars than at running businesses, but their Model A line did feature innovative designs like an overhead camshaft eight-cylinder engine and hydraulic brakes. Sales started in late 1921, and by 1926 the company had built an estimated 600 examples; unfortunately it had also gone through a reorganization, officially changing its name from the Duesenberg Automobiles and Motors Company to the Duesenberg Motor Company in 1925. Production continued in the same Indiana factory, but sales had fallen to dismal levels and another bankruptcy loomed.

To reverse the company’s fortunes, Fred Duesenberg began work on a new automobile to replace the Model A. To cut development costs, the chassis would be based upon the one used in the Model A, with modifications that included additional reinforcement and leaf springs mounted above the frame rails for a lower center of gravity. The engine would be derived from the Model A as well, but the 260-cu.in. inline eight-cylinder would receive a revised intake, a new valvetrain, different pistons and a new crankshaft, all of which raised output from 88 horsepower to 100 horsepower, reportedly enough to give the Model X a 100 MPH top speed.

Working with materials at hand, Duesenberg built 13 Model X chassis, sending one example off to Connorsville, Indiana, coachbuilder McFarlan for an aluminum “boat roadster” body. The attention-getting car would be displayed at the 1927 New York Auto Salon, and the Duesenberg brothers hoped the custom-bodied roadster would generate interest in other variants planned for the Model X line.

Except that’s not quite what happened.

The Audi Quattro is a road and rally car, produced by the German automobile manufacturer Audi, now part of the Volkswagen Group. It was first shown at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show on 3 March.

The word quattro is derived from the Italian word for "four". The name has also been used by Audi to refer to the quattro four-wheel-drive system, or any four-wheel-drive version of an Audi model. To avoid confusion, the original Quattro model is also commonly referred to as the Ur-Quattro - the "Ur-" (German for "primordial", "original", or "first of its kind") is an augmentative prefix, in this case meaning "original", and is also applied to the first generation Audi S4 and Audi S6 models, as in "Ur-S4" and "Ur-S6" and was known for its legendary sound.

The Audi Quattro was the first rally car to take advantage of the then-recently changed rules which allowed the use of four-wheel drive in competition racing. It won competition after competition for the next two years. To commemorate the success of the original vehicle, all subsequent Audis with their trademark quattro four-wheel-drive system were badged "quattro" with a lower case "q" and in a distinct typeface which has remained nearly unchanged since its inception. The original car with the upper case "Q" in the Quattro name is a collector's piece.

The Audi Quattro shared many parts and core body components with the Audi Coupé, which was a member of the Audi 80 (B2) model range. The Quattro was internally designated Typ 85, a production code it shared with the quattro versions of the Audi Coupé (B2) and Audi 80. Its characteristic flared wheelarches were styled by Martin Smith. The Audi Quattro also had independent rear suspension and independent front suspension.

Quoting from Wikipedia: Jaguar E-Type:

• • • • •

The Jaguar E-Type (UK) or XK-E (US) is a British automobile manufactured by Jaguar between 1961 and 1974. Its combination of good looks, high performance, and competitive pricing established the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring. A great success for Jaguar, over seventy thousand E-Types were sold during its lifespan.

In March 2008, the Jaguar E-Type ranked first in Daily Telegraph list of the "100 most beautiful cars" of all time.[2] In 2004, Sports Car International magazine placed the E-Type at number one on their list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s.

Overview

The E-Type was initially designed and shown to the public as a grand tourer in two-seater coupé form (FHC or Fixed Head Coupé) and as convertible (OTS or Open Two Seater). The 2+2 version with a lengthened wheelbase was released several years later.

On its release Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made".

The model was made in three distinct versions which are now generally referred to as "Series 1", "Series 2" and "Series 3". A transitional series between Series 1 and Series 2 is known unofficially as "Series 1½".

In addition, several limited-edition variants were produced:

• The "'Lightweight' E-Type" which was apparently intended as a sort of follow-up to the D-Type. Jaguar planned to produce 18 units but ultimately only a dozen were reportedly built. Of those, one is known to have been destroyed and two others have been converted to coupé form. These are exceedingly rare and sought after by collectors.

• The "Low Drag Coupé" was a one-off technical exercise which was ultimately sold to a Jaguar racing driver. It is presently believed to be part of the private collection of the current Viscount Cowdray.

Concept versions

E1A (1957)

After their success at LeMans 24 hr through the 1950s Jaguars defunct racing department were given the brief to use D-Type style construction to build a road going sports car, replacing the XK150.

It is suspected that the first prototype (E1A) was given the code based on: (E): The proposed production name E-Type (1): First Prototype (A): Aluminium construction (Production models used steel bodies)

The car featured a monocoque design, Jaguar's fully independent rear suspension and the well proved "XK" engine.

The car was used solely for factory testings and was never formally released to the public. The car was eventually scrapped by the factory

E2A (1960)

Jaguar's second E-Type concept was E2A which unlike E1A was constructed from a steel chassis and used a aluminium body. This car was completed as a race car as it was thought by Jaguar at the time it would provide a better testing ground.

E2A used a 3 litre version of the XK engine with a Lucas fuel injection system.

After retiring from the LeMans 24 hr the car was shipped to America to be used for racing by Jaguar privateer Briggs Cunningham.

In 1961 the car returned to Jaguar in England to be used as a testing mule.

Ownership of E2A passed to Roger Woodley (Jaguars customer competition car manager) who took possession on the basis the car not be used for racing. E2A had been scheduled to be scrapped.

Roger's wife Penny Griffiths owned E2A until 2008 when it was offered for sale at Bonham's Quail Auction. Sale price was US$4.5 million

The Series 1 was introduced, initially for export only, in March 1961. The domestic market launch came four months later in July 1961.[7] The cars at this time used the triple SU carburetted 3.8 litre 6-cylinder Jaguar XK6 engine from the XK150S. The first 500 cars built had flat floors and external hood (bonnet) latches. These cars are rare and more valuable. After that, the floors were dished to provide more leg room and the twin hood latches moved to inside the car. The 3.8 litre engine was increased to 4.2 litres in October 1964.[7]

All E-Types featured independent coil spring rear suspension with torsion bar front ends, and four wheel disc brakes, in-board at the rear, all were power-assisted. Jaguar was one of the first auto manufacturers to equip cars with disc brakes as standard from the XK150 in 1958. The Series 1 can be recognised by glass covered headlights (up to 1967), small "mouth" opening at the front, signal lights and tail-lights above bumpers and exhaust tips under the licence plate in the rear.

3.8 litre cars have leather-upholstered bucket seats, an aluminium-trimmed centre instrument panel and console (changed to vinyl and leather in 1963), and a Moss 4-speed gearbox that lacks synchromesh for 1st gear ("Moss box"). 4.2 litre cars have more comfortable seats, improved brakes and electrical systems, and an all-synchromesh 4-speed gearbox. 4.2 litre cars also have a badge on the boot proclaiming "Jaguar 4.2 Litre E-Type" (3.8 cars have a simple "Jaguar" badge). Optional extras included chrome spoked wheels and a detachable hard top for the OTS.

An original E-Type hard top is very rare, and finding one intact with all the chrome, not to mention original paint in decent condition, is rather difficult. For those who want a hardtop and aren't fussy over whether or not it is an original from Jaguar, several third parties have recreated the hardtop to almost exact specifications. The cost ranges anywhere from double to triple the cost of a canvas/vinyl soft top.

A 2+2 version of the coupé was added in 1966. The 2+2 offered the option of an automatic transmission. The body is 9 in (229 mm) longer and the roof angles are different with a more vertical windscreen. The roadster remained a strict two-seater.

There was a transitional series of cars built in 1967-68, unofficially called "Series 1½", which are externally similar to Series 1 cars. Due to American pressure the new features were open headlights, different switches, and some de-tuning (with a downgrade of twin Zenith-Stromberg carbs from the original triple SU carbs) for US models. Some Series 1½ cars also have twin cooling fans and adjustable seat backs. Series 2 features were gradually introduced into the Series 1, creating the unofficial Series 1½ cars, but always with the Series 1 body style.

Less widely known, there was also right at the end of Series 1 production and prior to the transitional "Series 1½" referred to above, a very small number of Series 1 cars produced with open headlights.[8] These are sometimes referred to as "Series 1¼" cars.[9] Production dates on these machines vary but in right hand drive form production has been verified as late as March 1968.[10] It is thought that the low number of these cars produced relative to the other Series make them amongst the rarest of all production E Types.

An open 3.8 litre car, actually the first such production car to be completed, was tested by the British magazine The Motor in 1961 and had a top speed of 149.1 mph (240.0 km/h) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 7.1 seconds. A fuel consumption of 21.3 miles per imperial gallon (13.3 L/100 km; 17.7 mpg-US) was recorded. The test car cost £2097 including taxes.[11]

Open headlights without glass covers, a wrap-around rear bumper, re-positioned and larger front indicators and taillights below the bumpers, better cooling aided by an enlarged "mouth" and twin electric fans, and uprated brakes are hallmarks of Series 2 cars. De-tuned in US, but still with triple SUs in the UK, the engine is easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam covers to a more industrial 'ribbed' appearance. Late Series 1½ cars also had ribbed cam covers. The interior and dashboard were also redesigned, with rocker switches that met U.S health and safety regulations being substituted for toggle switches. The dashboard switches also lost their symmetrical layout. New seats were fitted, which purists claim lacked the style of the originals but were certainly more comfortable. Air conditioning and power steering were available as factory options.

Production according to Graham[12] is 13,490 of all types.

A new 5.3 L 12-cylinder Jaguar V12 engine was introduced, with uprated brakes and standard power steering. The short wheelbase FHC body style was discontinued and the V12 was available only as a convertible and 2+2 coupé. The convertible used the longer-wheelbase 2+2 floorplan. It is easily identifiable by the large cross-slatted front grille, flared wheel arches and a badge on the rear that proclaims it to be a V12. There were also a very limited number of 4.2 litre six-cylinder Series 3 E-Types built. These were featured in the initial sales literature. It is believed these are the rarest of all E-Types of any remaining.

In 2008 a British classic car enthusiast assembled what is surely the last ever E-Type from parts bought from the end-of-production surplus in 1974.[15]

Graham[12] lists production at 15,290.

Limited edtions

Two limited production E-Type variants were made as test beds, the Low Drag Coupe and Lightweight E-Type, both of which were raced:

Low Drag Coupé (1962)

Shortly after the introduction of the E-Type, Jaguar management wanted to investigate the possibility of building a car more in the spirit of the D-Type racer from which elements of the E-Type's styling and design were derived. One car was built to test the concept designed as a coupé as its monocoque design could only be made rigid enough for racing by using the "stressed skin" principle. Previous Jaguar racers were built as open-top cars because they were based on ladder frame designs with independent chassis and bodies. Unlike the steel production E-Types the LDC used lightweight aluminium. Sayer retained the original tub with lighter outer panels riveted and glued to it. The front steel sub frame remained intact, the windshield was given a more pronounced slope and the rear hatch welded shut. Rear brake cooling ducts appeared next to the rear windows, and the interior trim was discarded, with only insulation around the transmission tunnel. With the exception of the windscreen, all cockpit glass was plexi. A tuned version of Jaguar's 3.8 litre engine with a wide angle cylinder-head design tested on the D-Type racers was used. Air management became a major problem and, although much sexier looking and certainly faster than a production E-Type, the car was never competitive: the faster it went, the more it wanted to do what its design dictated: take off.

The one and only test bed car was completed in summer of 1962 but was sold a year later to Jaguar racing driver Dick Protheroe who raced it extensively and eventually sold it. Since then it has passed through the hands of several collectors on both sides of the Atlantic and now is believed to reside in the private collection of the current Viscount Cowdray.

Lightweight E-Type (1963-1964)

In some ways, this was an evolution of the Low Drag Coupé. It made extensive use of aluminium alloy in the body panels and other components. However, with at least one exception, it remained an open-top car in the spirit of the D-Type to which this car is a more direct successor than the production E-Type which is more of a GT than a sports car. The cars used a tuned version of the production 3.8 litre Jaguar engine with 300 bhp (224 kW) output rather than the 265 bhp (198 kW) produced by the "ordinary" version. At least one car is known to have been fitted with fuel-injection.

The cars were entered in various races but, unlike the C-Type and D-Type racing cars, they did not win at Le Mans or Sebring.

Motor Sport

Bob Jane won the 1963 Australian GT Championship at the wheel of an E-Type.

The Jaguar E-Type was very successful in SCCA Production sports car racing with Group44 and Bob Tullius taking the B-Production championship with a Series-3 V12 racer in 1975. A few years later, Gran-Turismo Jaguar from Cleveland Ohio campaigned a 4.2 L 6 cylinder FHC racer in SCCA production series and in 1980, won the National Championship in the SCCA C-Production Class defeating a fully funded factory Nissan Z-car team with Paul Newman.

Part of the 2016 Toronto St. Patrick's Day parade.

This fantastic 1956 Facel Vega FV2B was fully restored by Amicale Facel Holland (AFH). The automobile was fully disassembled and body off restored. The body work was restored from the bare metal and finished in the beautiful Facel colour ‘Torch Red’. The chassis and all mechanics were fully restored and overhauled. Many new parts were used, parts which are being fabricated brand new by AFH and which are available for worldwide delivery.

The magnificent interior was also beautifully restored. The steel dashboard facia was, like original, very skilfully painted with a new wood structure. All gauges were restored and overhauled. The original black leather was reconditioned and used again, this to preserve the vintage atmosphere.

This fine Facel Vega was purchased by a German client who had some safety extras fitted. AFH installed safety harnesses and headrests on the front seats.

The automobile was first shown at the 2014 Concours d’Élégance Paleis het Loo in Apeldoorn the Netherlands. In 2015 the Facel FV2B participated in the Silvretta Classic Rallye which took the participants through Austria and Switzerland.

The Carmira has become a very rare sight on the roads nowadays, let alone trying to spot a Camira wagon!

I think the alloy wheels are from the Camira SLi 2000 edition.

I'm trying to create a cinematic look. I know that i must practice much more, but so far i like it anyway.!

Wonderfully original, although I have my doubts the colour was originally this, would a prospective buyer of a 124 in 1968 really opt for battleship grey? It's debatable if these are more well known than what they became in other countries, this was the Ladas origin after all. I suppose you could, like James May, call this one of the most influential cars of all time, and one of the most advanced when it was launched, this replaced the ancient looking 1100.

Nachruf Alfred Jodl

WHITE ROLLS ROYCE BRITISH MADE AUTOMOBILE OR MOTOR CAR AT A CAR RETRO SHOW IN AN EAST COAST STREET VENUE HOLIDAY RESORT TOWN KENT ENGLAND DSCN2137 C

Silver Arrows (German: Silberpfeil) was the name given by the press to Germany's dominant Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union Grand Prix motor racing cars between 1934 and 1939, and also later applied to the Mercedes-Benz Formula One and sports cars in 1954/55.

For decades until the introduction of sponsorship liveries, each country had its traditional color in automobile racing. Italian race cars are still famous for their rosso corsa red color, British ones are British racing green, French blue, etc.

German cars like the Blitzen Benz were white, as were the three Mercedes that won the 1914 French Grand Prix 1-2-3. On the other hand, in 1922 (Giulio Masetti) and 1924 (Christian Werner), Mercedes won the Italian Targa Florio with cars painted red, blending in with the local competitors. The big supercharged 200 hp Mercedes-Benz SSK with which Rudolf Caracciola won the 1931 Mille Miglia was called White Elephant.

The automobile was manufactured in 1952 in Eisenach factory, which before the World War II belonged to BMW. After the take over by the Soviet administration automobiles were manufactured still under BMW brand, however in 1951 the company was handed over to the German Democratic Republic and the name was changed to Eisenacher Motorenwerk (EMW) and the logo was modified. EMW 340-2 was based on BMW 326, it was driven by a 55-HP 6-cylinder engine with the displacement of 1971 ccm. Its manufacture lasted until 1955. Later the factory built Wartburg cars.

- Springfield-built Silver Ghost

- Left-hand drive

- Known ownership history

- Recent extensive refurbishment (including an engine overhaul) by Frank Dale & Stepsons

By the end of WWI, North America was the largest and most important car market, with more cars sold per annum in the USA than the rest of the world combined. Cars brought into the USA were subject to substantial importation taxes, so the Rolls-Royce management decided that in order to satisfy its customers' demands at a more cost effective price, a manufacturing operation should set up on American soil. In 1919, the old American Wire Wheel Corporation plant on Waltham Avenue in Springfield, Massachusetts was purchased. As well as being an ideal location for supplying the New York and Boston markets, Springfield was also the centre of the United States' coachbuilding industry, with an abundance of skilled labour.

By November 1919, Rolls-Royce of America Inc was formed, but it would be well into 1921 before the first US-built Silver Ghosts were ready to be sold. Unlike in the UK and Europe, where quality chassis were usually bodied by independent coachbuilders to the individual customer's requirements, the United States market for luxury cars demanded they be supplied fully finished from the manufacturer. To compete with the local competition - principally Packard, Pierce-Arrow, and Cadillac - Rolls-Royce of America enlisted several of the local coachbuilding companies to supply 'semi-custom' bodies to standard designs under the 'Rolls-Royce Custom Coach Work' (RRCCW) programme. As one would expect of Rolls-Royce, the quality of the coachwork was first class; bodies were panelled in aluminium and with steel mudguards in most cases, quite different from the British style of construction.

One of the companies supplying bodies to Rolls-Royce of America at this time was Brewster, which would be taken over by Rolls-Royce in December 1925. As well as manufacturing coachwork of the highest quality, Brewster had built its own automobiles from 1915 up to the time of its acquisition by Rolls-Royce, re-emerging as an auto-maker in its own right, using Ford chassis, when US Phantom production finally ceased in 1934 and the company became part of the reconstituted Springfield Manufacturing Corporation.

Brewster's coachwork of this period is rightly considered to be among the most stylish of all time, as exemplified here by this beautiful Playboy Roadster. It should be noted that Brewster's Playboy Roadster coachwork was not officially offered as an option on the Silver Ghost; rather, it was intended as an alternative design to be fitted at a later date: usually once more formal coachwork had been removed and discarded. The Playboy Roadster was produced in strictly limited numbers, with just 15 bodies fitted to Silver Ghost chassis in total.

Chassis number 'S306PL' was completed in August 1926 fitted originally with a Pickwick saloon body to the order of Mr Kerr of New York. By the time this car was made it had become apparent that left-hand drive was essential for the North American market, an alteration to the Ghost chassis that necessitated the adoption of a new three-speed gearbox with central change. Four-wheel brakes likewise had come to be seen as a necessity rather than an indulgence, and would be standardised from 1924 on the British-built Ghost. A mechanical servo, driven from the gearbox, was used on the latter but the American version used the New Phantom front axle together with a Westinghouse vacuum booster.

'S306PL' remained in its original form until 1932 when it was returned to the factory, while still in Mr Kerr's ownership, for the Playboy Roadster coachwork to be fitted (body number 'B7293'). In 1937, the car changed hands for the first time when it was purchased by Mr Elliot Robertson, who owned the Alder Shoe Stores in New York City. The Rolls-Royce was next owned by Mr James Rainey of Milford, Connecticut from 1939 until 1947 when it was purchased by Dr Carl Beam, a professor of biology at Stanford University in California.

'S306PL' changed hands again in 1951 when purchased by Mrs Barbara Backmann of Pacific Grove, California, returning to Connecticut in a partially dismantled state in 1957 when acquired by Mr Walter Florian. In 1972 the Silver Ghost was purchased by Mr Arnold Haber of Nashville, Tennessee, who kept it until 1986. During Mr Haber's ownership, the car was restored and then exhibited at the 1974 R-ROC Concours, winning first place in the Late Ghost Class; it was also judged at the 1977 Concours where it placed second in the same category.

In 1985, 'S306PL' was sold by Mr Haber to Mr Jack McKibbon of Gainesville, and shown again at the National R-ROC Meeting, held on this occasion in Toronto where it placed third in class. The final change of ownership prior to the current vendors' acquisition occurred in 2002 when the Silver Ghost was purchased by a collector in Texas who restored the car in order to use it on long tours in the United States.

Since its arrival in the United Kingdom, the first time the car has ever left the United States, renowned marque specialists, Frank Dale & Stepsons have made the necessary cosmetic enhancements and conducted a thorough mechanical review to ensure reliability, correct performance, and continued enjoyment for the next fortunate owner. These works included, but were not limited to, an engine overhaul and refurbishment of the steering, brakes, and suspension. Related bills are available and the car also comes with a history file and US Certificate of Title.

Chassis number 'S306PL' is fitted with twin side-mounted spare wheels, a dickey seat in the rear deck, and a tail-mounted trunk containing fitted luggage, making the car ideal for touring. The Playboy Roadster by Brewster is a landmark design, highlighting all that was great about the production of Rolls-Royce motor cars in the United States, with this particular example being one of the best of the very few that survive today.

The Citroën DS is an automobile which was manufactured and marketed by the French company Citroën from 1955 to 1975. Styled by Italian sculptor and industrial designer Flaminio Bertoni and the French aeronautical engineer André Lefèbvre, the DS was known for its aerodynamic futuristic body design and innovative technology, including a hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension.

The DS advanced achievable standards in automobile ride quality, handling, and braking. Citroën sold nearly 1.5 million D-series during the model's 20-year production run. The DS came in third in the 1999 Car of the Century competition, recognizing the world's most influential auto designs, and was named the most beautiful car of all time by Classic & Sports Car magazine

While I was diversifying my stream I though I may as well do it properly :-) For all the car nuts out there!

Edit: I just realised, the tree just above the back of the car (or at least part of it) featured in my previous upload!

There were two of these recycling trucks operating in Eurobodalla before the new contract commenced in October last year. Both of the Hinos were initially operated by Staples Waste, who was bought out by WSN Environmental Solutions, then SITA acquired WSN. You’ve got a Compaction Systems with the larger body capacity, also featuring the neat and little recycle hopper. Otherwise not the most exciting truck in terms of paintwork, quite a plain appearance really.
