- Rolls-Royce Company (officially registered as Rolls-Royce Limited Company in 1906) was founded by engineer Frederick Henry Royce and car trader Charles Stewart Rolls in 1904. Their pursuit of quality automobile production has earned Rolls-Royce the reputation of “the best car in the world”.

- The New Phantom (codenamed EAC, which stood for Easter Armored Car and later called Phantom I when the Phantom II was introduced in 1929) was designed / restyled by Ivan Evernden, based on the Silver Ghost.

- The chassis was still based on the Silver Ghost, old-fashioned and lack of rigidity in the application of front brakes. It was therefore after a brief career (for RR standards) already replaced with a new chassis in 1929, called Phantom II.

- Only the chassis and mechanical parts were produced by Rolls-Royce. The bodies were built (according to RR-standards) by famous coachbuilders like Barker - London, Hooper, Thrupp & Maberly, Park Ward and H.J. Millliner and some lesser knowns like James Young (at that time), Clark, Martin & King, Merrimack, Warwick, Windovers, Binder, Murphy, Jonckheere and Rippon.

- The Phantom I was also produced between 1926 and 1931 in North-America (by Rolls-Royce of America, Springfield, Massachusetts) with Brewster - New York bodies. US models used a 3-speed manual transmission and lacked front brakes.

- Even European RHD chassis were shipped to America and got Brewster bodies.

* Originally fitted with a Landaulette body by Rippon, this automobile carried a Hearse body shortly after WWII. During the 1970's it was fully restored and fitted with its current Boattail body by Tony Robinson near London.

This is the memorable and ironic view that greets every motorist traveling south on I-75 towards downtown. Thousands of these motorists are surely suburban GM workers on their way to work every day, and the irony of this chance alignment is hopefully not lost on them. In the background, the Renaissance Center, Detroit's tallest building and GM World Headquarters. In the foreground, St. Josaphat, a 105-year old still-functioning relic from Detroit's heyday. Detroit is the Motor City, but the sins committed here cannot be forgotten or forgiven--from the hundreds of murders every year to the construction of a freeway system that divided and destroyed vibrant and working neighborhoods. Hopefully this image will one day have different associations.

For me, it is a powerful view that is quintessentially Detroit. I'm sure it's been photographed hundreds of times, but the balance and contrast between Detroit's largest and most infamous glass skyscraper, a struggling community church, and the freeway that cut a swath across the city and acted as a runway for white flighters provides me with endless fascination. I hope you will find it equally stimulating.

The Automobile (1930 Stutz Model M Speedster)

Harry Stutz was responsible for one of the great early American Sports cars, the Stutz Bearcat Speedster of 1914. That car featured a low hung chassis and large slow turning engine topped with minimal bodywork.

This new series of Stutz cars was often called the Vertical 8, for its inline 8-cylinder, overhead cam, twin ignition engine. Stutz Vertical 8 cars won the AAA championship, winning every race and every car entered, finishing. At Daytona they were crowned America’s fastest production car, showing a top speed of 107 mph.

This Stutz Model M two-passenger speedster features an aluminum body by LeBaron. It is a short wheelbase model with the optional 'HC' high compression engine, which features a worm gear differential. As with other Stutz models, it features 4-wheel hydraulic brakes with variable assist and a 4-speed transmission. An additional features is the beautiful engine turned instrument panel, a unique and unusual special order, along with the bold two-tone black and yellow leather interior with arm rest, which truly compliments the as original bright yellow exterior finish featuring deep red wheels.

The insert picture

Mar-a-Lago is a resort and National Historic Landmark in Palm Beach, Florida, built from 1924 to 1927 by cereal-company heiress and socialite Marjorie Merriweather Post. The 126-room, 62,500-square-foot house contains the Mar-a-Lago Club, a members-only club with guest rooms, a spa, and other hotel-style amenities. It is located on the barrier island section of Palm Beach, with the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway to the west, and its western lawns are exposed to rising sea levels.

At the time of her death in 1973, Post bequeathed the property to the National Park Service, hoping it could be used for state visits or as a Winter White House. However, due to the costs of maintaining the property exceeding the funds provided by Post, and the difficulty in securing the facility in the flight path of Palm Beach Airport, the property was returned to the Post Foundation by an Act of Congress in 1981.

In 1985, Mar-a-Lago was purchased by businessman Donald Trump and his then-wife Ivana Trump was put in charge of running the property. The Trump family maintains private quarters in a separate, closed-off area of the house and grounds, and since becoming President, Trump has frequently stayed there, referring to it as his "Southern White House". It is the 20th largest mansion in the United States.

This was the first time I had gone to a wannaGoFast event. I went on a Saturday, September 17th, 2016 to the Heaven's Landing Airstrip located in Clayton, Georgia. I want to thank the wannaGoFast organization for providing me a media pass to this event. I would certainly go again in the future. If you never been to such an event, you should go at least once and see what it's really like to see cars going their fastest. This was the first time I had ever seen a Lamborghini go over 200mph in person !

The wannaGoFast organization was founded in order to fill a niche in the motorsports marketplace. Our goal was to create a safe and controlled environment for fellow car enthusiasts to pursue their “Need For Speed” without the restrictions of the standard 1/8 or 1/4 mile drag strip. See what it’s like to hit speeds you’ve only dreamed of without the risk of law enforcement or causing injury to others, while being surrounded by on-site safety personnel.

Manufacturer: Lancia Automobiles S.p.A., Turin - Italy

Type: Dilambda Roadster Boneschi body

Engine: 3958cc V-8 (24°-V angle)

Power: 100 bhp / 4.000 rpm

Speed: 135 km/h

Production time: 1928 - 1935 (all types)

Production outlet Lancia: 1,432

Production outlet rolling chassis: 253

Production outlet: 1,685 (in total)

Curb weight: 1450 kg

Special:

- The Dilambda is designed as Tipo 220 by Vincenzo Lancia based on its Lambda (1923-1931).

- The Dilambda was born in 1926 as a project for the US market, to be built at a new facility in that country, but when the entire venture collapsed the car was modified for the European market and emerged in 1928.

- In those says it was common to buy a rolling chassis on witch specialized firms like Carrozzeria Touring (Milan), Carrozzeria Pinin Farina (the first official Pinin Farina special, presented at the Concours d’Elegance at Villa d’Este, Vincenzo Lancia was himself a minority stakeholder in the firm, later called Pininfarina S.p.A., Turin), Carozzeria Viotti (Turin) and Carrozzeria Boneschi S.r.L. in Cambiago (near Milan) created the bodywork for customers ("one offs" and not mass-produced).

- So its almost impossible to say, whom built this bodywork.

- At Lancia's, the Dilambda is built as Sedan and as Torpedo.

- Three versions of the Dilambda were built:

* First series (Tipo 227 SWB 329 cm: 879 units built, and LWB 347.5 cm: 225 units built), produced between 1928 and 1931 with the Tipo 81 engine.

* Second series (Tipo 229 SWB 329 cm: 107 units built and LWB 347,5 cm: 193 units built), produced between 1931 and 1933 with the Tipo 81A engine: Modified gearbox and brakes.

* Third series (Tipo 232 LWB 347,5 cm: 281 units built), produced between 1933 and 1935 with the Tipo 81A engine: Modified chassis for more aerodynamic style, it was built only with long wheelbase.

- It has a criss-cross boxed steel frame (chassis type4/5S SAL) with the fuel tank in the rear as stiffening cross and with centralized frame lubrication, a four-speed manual gearbox and rear wheel drive (shaft drive).

- In first gear it can climb slopes of 23% to 24%.

- The front suspension is an independent telescopic strut suspension (Lancia-system) with hydraulic shock absorbers while the rear suspension has a live axle, semi-elliptic longitudinal strips (ends mounted on "silent block") and mechanical shock absorbers.

- It has mechanical aluminum drum brakes on all four wheels and the brake on the rear axle.

- The V-8 24°-V angle "silent block" engine has overhead valves operated by pushrods from a single camshaft (SOHV) with an overhead-camshaft timing system and a thermostat for setting the temperature of the cooling water and a 105 Zenith updraft carburateur body double en circulatiepomp.

- The max. engine torque is178 N.m / 4000 rpm.

- The 12-Volts electric system is a double 6-Volts 75 Ah in series.

- All cars has rights hand steering (standard at all Lancia's into the '50) but some are made left handed for export regulations.

- Many celebrities at that time had a Dilambda like Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, writer Erich Maria Remarque (who had affairs with Dietrich, Garbo and other women), Max Adolph Otto Siegfried Schmeling (world champion boxing), Konstantin Prinz von Bayern and Ernest Miller Hemingway.

Shown: 1965 Amphicar

The Amphicar Model 770 is an amphibious automobile, launched at the 1961 New York Auto Show, manufactured in West Germany and marketed in the United States from 1961-1967, with production having ended in 1965. Designed by Hanns Trippel, the amphibious vehicle was manufactured by the Quandt Group at Lübeck and at Berlin-Borsigwalde, with a total of 3,878 manufactured in a single generation. A descendant of the Volkswagen Schwimmwagen, the Amphicar offered only modest performance compared to most contemporary boats or cars, featured navigation lights and flag as mandated by Coast Guard — and after operation in water, required greasing at 13 points, one of which required removal of the rear seat. The Amphicar name is a portmanteau of "amphibious" and "car". [Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphicar]

Larz Anderson Auto Museum is located in the Anderson Carriage House on the grounds of Larz Anderson Park in Brookline, Massachusetts and is the oldest collection of motorcars in the United States. The museum is a non-profit educational institution with community events, lectures, children’s programs, walking tours of the park, and an ever-changing series of exhibits on motor vehicles and the automobile's impact on society and culture. The collection was begun by Larz Anderson and Isabel Weld Perkins soon after they married. In 1899 they purchased a true "horseless carriage" made by the Winton Motor Carriage Company. In the following decades, the Andersons purchased at least thirty-two new motorcars. Their collection also included twenty-four horse-drawn carriages and six sleighs. As their cars became obsolete, the Andersons retired them to the Carriage House of their 64-acre (26 ha) estate in Greater Boston. By 1927, the Andersons opened the Carriage House to the public for tours of their vehicles. When Isabel Anderson died in 1948, she bequeathed her entire Brookline estate (including mansion, carriage house, and land) to the Town of Brookline. She stipulated in her will that the motorcar collection be known as the "Larz Anderson Collection," and that a non-profit be given stewardship of the collection. The Carriage House which the museum occupies was designed by the Boston architect Edmund M. Wheelwright and completed in 1888. Its design was heavily influenced by the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire in France. Gigantic in scale, the building stored carriages, housed horses, and served as home to stable staff who lived on the upper floor. Soon after the Andersons began collecting automobiles, they added a garage on the basement level for vehicle repair.
