This curious character working on a clock is part of a storefront sign for one of Madrid's oldest shop, the Antigua Relojeria, a clockmaker founded in 1880. The figure is partly automated: every 30 minutes the bells behind him play a little song, with the man occasionally moving as well. It was created by artist Antonio Mingote in 2010 and lies close to Plaza Mayor.

This wonderful Paper Automaton, designed by Rob Ives is three little sheep that 'hop' up and down as you turn the handle. It is cut out and glued together from a card net.
Three different shaped cams rotate on the central axle, pushing the sheep up and down at different times, with the little sheep hopping up and down three times as fast as the other two! :)

As a reminder to us all, that not all communication is or has to be verbal.
Having "asked" if it was ok to take photos, I then asked for her name, to which she answered in gestures only, well she is a mime artist after all, having watched her for some time, my interpretation of her name is "Elegant Mime"
This Mime artist seems to be a Fringe Festival regular and I have seen this artist there for several years.

No tuve mucho tiempo de jugar con los colorcitos de los autómatas. La mayoría de estas fotos las tomé en un intervalo de dos horas la noche anterior a la entrega del proyecto.
Cada una es el resultado de varios cientos de iteraciones, con reglas y semillas cambiantes. Son, en la práctica, irrepetibles. En funcionamiento normal, cada imagen duraba en pantalla unos dieciséis milisegundos, y en seguida era reemplazada por otra. El hecho de ser tan efímeras les da un valor especial, creo yo. Se les podía contemplar un brevísimo instante, y nunca más se veía otra igual. En verdad, así son todas las cosas.
No soy yo el autor. Tiré una piedra en el centro de un lago y me maravillé con las ondas y peces coloridos que vi brotar de él. Tremenda agitación por la más pequeña de mis intervenciones. Un pequeño universo con sus propias dimensiones y leyes. No me cansé de verlo ora evolucionar, ora estancarse; quedarse a veces totalmente inerte, y otras devenir en un gran caos. Verdaderamente admirable es que todo ello esté contenido, a su vez, en un universo del cual yo soy parte.
Espero haber despertado curiosidad en algún lector.

I was heavily inspired by this to make this. While my automaton is nowhere near the technical or aesthetic quality of Edulyoung's Pegasus, I am rather proud of it as a first try. This is probably my first MOC with any kind of real function (because doors on hinges don't quite count). I will most likely try my hand at another automaton soon again.
