In a recent trip to France, my Grandparents visited an Automaton museum in Falaise (Normandy).
The Museum contains a collection of over 300 'automatons' which traditionally were used by Parisian department stores in window displays at Christmas.
Various rows of 're-created' streets and shop windows from pre-1940's fill the museum of which I've apparently been but don't remember well.
They bought me back this; a postcard-sized metallic advertisement for 'Banania' which was, and still is, a popular chocolate drink for children in France to have with breakfast. For years the company used a smiling Senegalese man as the 'face' of their product until in the 80's the advertising campaign was labelled racist and colonialist and the whole franchise had to change. Since then it's become a sort of cultural icon and to this day you can still find replica/novelty signs around France. This one I scanned, although staying true to the original (seen here:click) has still changed the phrase at the bottom from 'Y'a bon!' to 'J'adore', conforming once again to Political Correctness.
Scanned on 28th July 2009

During the robot performance festival Cafe Neu Romance 2016 he did the opening talk on the mechanism of the Astronomical Clock in Prague. On the photo he demonstrate the movement of the automaton The Golden Rooster, which was added for 150 years to the Astronomical Clock in 1866,
Petr Skála is a Sculptor and Restorer of tower clocks, who in 1972 graduated from the College of Applied Arts in Prague at the Department of Applied sculpture. From 1972-1991 he worked as a freelance sculptor, and from 1991-to now a days restorer of tower clocks which is licensed by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, and latest from 2009 to now, also Orloj, which is the Czech name for the Prague Astronomical Clock
Petr Skála has earlier made formations of figurative stone and metal, but also lighter genres, along with his colleague M. Kotrba, with who he during the 80s created many large sculptures of animals for children to play with, f.ex. at the Zoo of Usti nad Labem and other places.
Since 1991, he together with his wife Melanie Skálová restored more than 90 historic tower clocks (f.ex. the Clock of the Jewish Town Hall in Prague, the Clock of the Jesuit College in Kutna Hora, the Clock at the castle Dobrís Clock, the Clock of the Church of St. James the Elder in Citoliby, the Clock of Mesice near Prague Castle, the Clock Basilica of St. Wenceslaus in Stara Boleslav, and the Clock of Cathedral of St. Vitus and others).
He has published articles on the issue of restoration of the clock tower in the journal Monuments of Central Bohemia, and also made documentation and written articles about the history and problems of the Astronomical Clock and other ancient tower clocks in the Central Bohemia for the National Heritage Institute.

The short, fat, hairy, ugly and deformed God of the Forge, with one of his loyal automatons. You can just tell that this animation is going to be a comedy.

This automaton was telling the Xmas story to two young boys. I wasn’t sure if they were here as a treat or ar a punishment - their expressions were a bit blank.
From Goch Garden Centre (it even has a FaceBook page). The cafe isn’t cheap as garden centres go, but the food is tasty and cooked properly, and they use fresh vegetables. The plants are well fit too. We have much closer garden centres around us, but the staff are so helpful and seem to be very knowledgeable too.
Constructed by the blossoming golemnist Cletheia Kohlschrein, August is made of spare parts from Cletheia's mother's smithy. It's heart was forged in autumnal month of rage as dictated the Imperial almanac. Augustine Golems are mostly created for harvest purposes, but this one has gone rogue. Not a big surprise considering it's maker. uses a slate truncheon to catalyze with its inner heat, generating jets of flame. Oddly , it emits a musical hum in the thick of battle.

For the Lego Steampunk 100 Pieces competition; the whole thing, including the automaton, inventor, the shovel, the pile of coal and the base comes to 62 pieces.
I like movement and this automaton of a rat catcher is very busy as soon as the cranked handle is turned. Don't worry, the rat always dives into the barrel at the last minute to excape! I built this in 2007. I've put a short video on my website at www.stuartking.co.uk.

a gun slinging automaton at the Museum of History and Industry, Seattle.
i wonder if Crichton got the idea for Westworld from one of these.
This is the output of a Cellular automata system developed using a Spartan 3 Starter Kit FPGA board. The user could pause the automata, change the frame rate, apply 16 different rules (Conway's life, Brian's brain, parity, lichens, time tunnel, Greenberg, among others), seed it with a mouse-drawn pattern and choose among two color palettes.
Some features and numbers for the curious:
-Resolution: 320x240
-Inputs: 8 switches, 4 push buttons, PS/2 mouse
-Output: 3-bit VGA
-Colors: 27 (using temporal and spatial dithering)
-System clock: 30MHz max.
-Moore neighborhood.
-16 rules (limited only by the number of switches, more rules can be trivially added).
These pictures were obtained by photographing the CRT display that received the VGA signal.
More info here, and the rest of the pictures are on my photostream. If you are interested in the VHDL source code, please let me know. I will gladly share it with anyone.
Disclaimer: These pictures were edited using Photoshop to increase contrast and in some cases color inversion has been applied. Color inversion was not a feature of this system, but it can be trivially implemented.

I found this interesting paper automaton for sale on Etsy.com. Designed by "Keisuke Saka" The model, built as a mini ball track, is attractive in function. It can be rotated left or right around. A hint from me: so that the balls do not fall out before reaching the upper ejection, I have attached a safety strip on the back of the kite on both sides!
