Argonne’s Atom Trapping program employs laser cooling and trapping techniques to precisely control the external and internal degree of freedom of an elemental species of interest.
Argonne’s Atom Trapping program employs laser cooling and trapping techniques to precisely control the external and internal degree of freedom of an elemental species of interest. These techniques are ideal for precision measurements and sensitive detection of rare isotopes. Applications of Atom Trapping include:
Atom Trap Trace Analysis
We have advanced the science of krypton dating to a practical level for young (~10-50 years) and ancient (30-2000 kyrs) groundwater and glacial ice with Atom Trap Trace Analysis (ATTA).
Electric Dipole Moments of Radium-225
We are engaged in a search for the electric dipole moment of Radium-225, a short-lived isotope of the element radium. According to the Standard Model, this property is expected to be unmeasurably small. However, Beyond Standard Model theories predict this property to be much larger. Our search is based on laser manipulation of neutral Ra-225 atoms to cool them to near absolute zero and trap them in a laser beam for a sensitive measurement of their electric dipole moment.
Beta-neutrino Angular Correlation
We search for signatures of physics beyond the Standard Model by measuring the relative angle between the electron and the neutrino that result from the beta decay of unstable nuclei. These experiments require precision control of the initial state and sensitive detection of all outgoing particles, since the direction of the unobserved neutrino can only be deduced from the direction and energy of all other particles. Laser traps provide an ideal environment in this respect. The isotope of interest is Helium-6, with a lifetime of less than one second. These nuclei need to be produced at an accelerator facility, captured, and detected within a fraction of a second.
From the back: "When a 1968 experiment to provide protection against a nuclear blast went awry, Captain Nathaniel Adam was catapulted nearly 20 years into the future, where he arrived as an energy being! Now, though secretly working for the government, he is known to the world as the super-hero Captain Atom!"

The Atom has had a facelift, and we like it! We got one of the new Link G4+ Atom II’s through the door this week and thought we’d share the new design. The case it now made of a very lightweight plastic and is also dust and water proof to IP66 standards.
Best of all its still packed with all the great G4+ Atom features and still priced at only $1035 inc GST!!

I asked my 3 yr old son what he wanted me to take a picture of today and he gave me this toy. This is Atom from Real Steel. White posterboard as background lit by SB-900 camera left trigger by on camera flash via cls.
The Ariel Atom is a road legal high performance sports car made by the Ariel Motor Company based in Crewkerne, Somerset, England and under licence in North America by TMI Autotech, Inc. at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia.
There have been seven Ariel Atom generations to date: Ariel Atom, Ariel Atom 2, Ariel Atom 3 (including the Ariel Atom 3 Mugen Limited Edition and Honda Racing Edition - of which only 1 was made) Ariel Atom 3.5, Ariel Atom 3S, Ariel Spec:Race Atom, and Ariel Atom 500 V8 Limited Edition (only 25 to be made). The current models are the Ariel Atom 3 (US), 3.5, the more powerful 3.5R, the 3S (US), the Spec:Race Atom (US), and the limited production Ariel Atom 500 V8 with a 500 bhp (373 kW; 507 PS) V8 engine.
The Ariel Atom features a prominently visible chassis (i.e., an exoskeleton, no roof or windows, a small optional windscreen) and a drag coefficient of 0.40. (courtesy of Wikipedia)
THE ATOM ; where is DOMO ?
i got this candy as a greeting gift to DOMO for taking me to the TOY FAMILY CITY. :O
This is my first attempt at creating a light painting orb.
Either it's really hard to do or I'm doing it properly because I had a real hard time tonight trying to come up with something sphere-like.
I got this christmas LED decoration light that's battery powered not long ago. Really great for this kind of things cause you can easily turn it on and off whenever you want.
The fairy light actually has lot's of LED along the cord so I had to cover all of them with paper and leave the last one out. I tried doing some orbs with all LEDs visible but it's too bright and also too messy.
Maybe leaving 2 of the LEDs out would be a good idea too. I'll have to practice a lot to be able to make them perfect...
