When one eye is closed, one looks within. I understand this to mean that when one looks through the eye piece of his camera and closes one eye to focus, he could then see a world of beauty (eminating from within-his personal perception of beauty) that could be captured through his camera. When two eyes are open, and one sees the world as is - a functional stomping ground, he looks without this specialized eye. He can overlook the beauty that is sought after by the one closed eye. He misses those fractions of a second that light and color come together in symphony.
These photogrpahs are of images that can only be seen in the world of one eye closed.
I wanted to use the rule of thirds in this shot because I think it makes the expression even more intense. By having my mother's face placed towards the side it draws your eyes across the picture and makes you wonder what was outside of the frame that she was looking at and why it made her have such an intense expression.
