correct exposure. Canon SL2 24mm lens ISO 100 f/2.8 1/200 sec. It was a bit cloudy so I originally set ISO at 200 which was 1 stop too bright.

Technical f/11, shutter speed 1/25, focus on the face of the boy.

Composition Shot at close range, below I level.

Content- I wanted to show face of the boy as he is reading the book with appreciation on his face.

Experimenting with different backgrounds. This is a plastic garden table top (legs removed and placed in the place of the background). Even better specular definition than the plywood.

I actually love how it came out, although the double edge on the reflection bugs me a tad but that is simply how the surface of the screen caused it to look. I do wish the screen were clean but I couldn't find any cleaner and there was no one around to ask. I like how the angle of the hands divides the shot. I also like how ghost-like the reflection hand looks. I wanted to try and brighten the reflection hand more (I did quite a bit) but it lost a lot of definition so I left it at this point.

I am learning that lines and shapes really speak to me. When I saw the vertical lines of the railing crossing the horizontal lines of the stairs I had to snap it. Also, the building in the background serves as an example of what those lines together can make.

Much better - I managed to get Maria in place once I had done the setup shots with Louis (the gorilla) and fired a few off in relatively quick succession. (I didn't like the texture of the plastic table top, so didn't use that here)

I've had a pretty good amount of experience with editing. I started with two images I took, one of the lion statue and the other of a circuit board. They were pretty boring photos on their own, but I think combined they made a nice compelling image. I used the curves tool in photoshop and layer masks to get the lion the desired amount of contrast and highlights and shadows I wanted. I also used a solid blue layer with low opacity and mixed it in to give the image a blue tint. I created a new layer with the circuit board and used the vivid light mixture and mask to make it show only in areas I wanted, the background and mane. After this I took the image back into Lightroom and made final touches to the color, contrast, and sharpness.

First try here - note the spectacular absence of background specular lighting of any sort. Completely missed my angles. Still, nice to have caught my daughter still for long enough to get this far!

Strobist Info: Flash into brolly at camera right (about 45deg). Flash about 2ft (80cm) from Maria. Dark background about 3ft (1m) behind Maria.

Took this towards end of the day in an effort to get proper lighting. My aim was to make the glasses in focus and everything else blurred. Used Photoshop and masks in an effort to bring out the reflection a bit more but didn't quite get it to where I would have liked, would have to reshoot. I am happy with the overall composition and flow of the piece.

Requirement 1 - Line: The lines of grout in the bricks leading off into the distance. Converted to B&W in Lightroom.
