Active Assignment Weekly: In Need of Restoration
A view inside the old Laurel Art Center on Main Street in Laurel, MD. I got up close to the plate glass window and cupped a hand around the lens to minimize reflections. Tweaked the levels in post to emphasize the shadows a touch.
Main Street is always interesting because even though some of it is always in decay, other parts are continuously being renewed. The Laurel Art Center was the best place to get art supplies for many years.

For this assignment, the main project i had issue because i really didnt know what to photograph mainly because i felt like i didnt have anything good to photograph. But i worked with what i had, and took several images of different things with minimal lighting. I do feel like i struggled a lot with this assignment. So i chose this image to upload to the group because i felt this one was my best image in comparison to my other images. This is a pine tree that got split by a storm a few weeks ago. The other reason i chose this was because i like the lighting in it. My ISO was 800 and my shutter speed was 1.6 and the aperture was 6.3. So i wanted to go for a Kohei Yoshiyuki type of image because i really like their work, however i felt that i didnt have the right scenario to capture an image like that, so I had to scrap my idea and begin with something else. Again the learning experience was working with iso and night time which again proved a small challenge but this time i felt more confident shooting this time compared to my first assignment.
Active Assignment Weekly: Viaduct
For this assignment you need to photograph a bridge in it's entirety or focus on a detail that intrigues ...YOU..
Restriction: none
Dare: find a point of view that few others have found.(BUT DON"T GET HURT)
WIT: I wanted a gorgeous graceful span arcing over a sparkling body of water...but alas that scene doesnt exist around here. So, I sought to go the other way and find a primitive span. The family headed out to a local state park and found a spot where we could cross the river on a old fallen tree. Cropping and some contrast adjustments before posting.
Active Assignment Weekly: 23-30 May 2016: Water:
"I find water to be an inspiration - it is present everywhere, has countless shapes and colors, catches light in different ways and gives a photographer the freedom to play with it as he wishes. Restriction - only water, no other liquids :)"
WIT: Pouring water from a jug in the evening sun. Cropped then adjusted levels to turn background darker.
Thought I'd use my new strobist studio setup...but my transmitter needs replacing, so fell back on the old bathroom setup for this one.
Assignment 52: The Golden Hour comparison diptych
These are cropped, but otherwise unedited. The "golden" hydrangeas might look like they're against sky, but that's the same snow backdrop, turned blue in that light. Very interesting assignment.

Assignment:
for this week theme your photographic eye should look for something "artificial".
No restriction, just be creative and have fun.
Artificial Flowers
Active Assignment Weekly: Cinematic Photography
A cinematic photo is one which looks like a frame taken from a movie. There are no definite rules, but a cinematic photo should present some strong mood or emotion (happy, sad, fear, love, etc.), and tell some kind of story to the viewer.
Restriction: The photo must be in landscape orientation (like a movie frame might be) - e.g. 4:3 or 16:9 ratio.
WIT: Tried to get my model to look contemplative and moody, alas, this is what I got. I'm thinking some sort of teen angst/coming-of-age film. Queue the sappy music...Straightened and cropped with adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation (only slightly).

ADG from CCCP performs a skateboarding trick named Boneless. After three successful executions and three exposures later, the first CCCP homework assignment was complete.

Despite the HARSH criticism of my wife and close friends, I have still decided to upload this picture as my second submission for the weekly assignment.
My reason for this is that the very saying it portrays is exactly my reason for submitting it. Even though they think it is ugly, or strange, something about it is appealing to me.
WIT: I was planning on using someone with pretty eyes for this picture, but I wanted to play around with it before I found my model, so I used myself as the test subject. I snapped a quick picture of my eyes, then scribbled the word "beauty" on the back of an envelope and took a picture (both in RAW). I used in camera processing to overlay the pictures and ta'da! We have this wonderful wreck that I love!
So please, by all means, rip this picture a new one. If you have advice on how to better overlay pictures, I would love it. But believe me, I have heard the worst criticism from some people who are very close to me, so I doubt anything you say will hurt my feelings, so please be honest! Thank you!

Assignment: Signs, signs, and more signs. They're everywhere and most of the time we probably don't even notice them. This week's assignment is to photograph a sign. Try to get an new or interesting angle on the sign.
Dare: Try to find a sign that is worded in a way that is unusual and funny or maybe an altered sign. Here are a couple of Flickr groups devoted to these types of signs...
WIT: A new found mania for clicking and a bit of free time. I snapped this photo as I was taking a stroll back to my car. I was also trying to sneak in a quick cigarette. Anyway, this is what my smelly old cigarette smoke did to the marquee, and I actually like it.
Taken for the Assignment 52 group week 32: Sunburst
This one isn't as "sharp" as the monument one I took, not sure why, but I still like it. I'm guessing that maybe I should have shortened the exposure length. But I just thought of that now :-)
This flag is HUGE! It would likely completely cover a mini van. But in this photo it looks small against all that sky and the big clouds.
I also want to try some night time flares. I tried to get a flare off some police bar lights (traffic stop of someone else), but the full sunlight today was too bright. Now if only that opportunity had presented itself at night! They were on the highway, but I was on a parallel side road where I could safely stop.
Shot for Active Assignment Weekly Feb 6-13 2016: How Low Can you Go?
Pretend you are an ant with a camera. Find that unique point of view and investigate a subject from low angle. Physically altering the position of your camera is a great way to yield amazing results. The lower the camera, the more dramatic the effect, so experiment with your camera's position.
Restriction: Ground Hugger - show the ground, and keep camera within 2 feet of the ground.
Dare: Place the camera down on the ground – remember the lower the camera, the more dramatic the effect.
WIT: There are a pair of ostriches that wander around a large field we sometimes walk through, got this one from ground level. Straightened and adjusted contrast.
