A line of Aspen trees up at 10K feet at the local ski area. It was a cold, fall, late afternoon day with a fantastic vista view. A polarizing filter was used to punch up the colors, add contrast and darken up the sky for this single exposure capture. This is the film way, before digital capture and processing. Shoot B&W film with a red (25A) filter, and this is close to what it would look like. Of course, we would bracket (exposure) several frames. Different film would give you various looks - contrast, over all color saturation or punch up a specific spectrum, etc. Black and white film was another animal, just pull up Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 and you - pardon my pun - get the picture.
Even though this and the other views (color and B/W) were shot a little over 5 years ago, they were processed today (1/20/2016). Some times it pays to check older images.
Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 was used to convert the original color image (after a little post - # 1). In my film days, I would have used a Red Filter with B/W film, and young enough to haul the 4X5 View Camera & tripod up there.
This is a single exposure, full frame from side to side, then cropped to take off excess foreground. Tamron 11mm/18mm zoom lens was use for this view.
Moods of Autumn
I always feel so fortunate when the fall weather provides clouds, fog and snow. Here is just a sample of what I experienced in the Southern Colorado San Juan mountains.
If you weren't one of the 1,828,392 photographers who journeyed to Bishop Canyon this weekend, this is what you missed. There'll still be plenty of color in the canyon for a couple more weeks (provided the snow forecast this week doesn't completely mess everything up), so head on up if you can. It's really something you should experience.
257/366: Road To The Mountains
Piedra Road which takes you into the mountains in the San Juan National Forest Colorado. Probably one of my favorite roads into the mountains in the Pagosa Springs area. The beauty surrounding you as you venture deeper and deeper into the forest is majestic and awe-inspiring. I cannot wait to get back in the fall!!

To say that I stopped for a few photo captures might just a tad of an understatement! The yellows of the aspens and greens of the evergreens on these mountainsides were something to take in. And it was my second trip to this part of Utah so I was savoring it all!
This was another of those image rotations I have on my Mac desktop from past trips where I decided to see what I could do with some post-processing knowledge I have with Capture NX2 and Color Efex Pro. With some adjustments with adjustments to exposure to bring back some lost highlights, some use of color control points and a Low Key and Polarizing filter, I was able to bring this out as a final image...and definitely a place I really need to visit again one year soon!

When two seasons collide.......
A wonderful overnight snowfall in the Southern San Juan Mountains created a beautiful mix of color and mountain textures.

At 12,281 feet high, Mt. Adams is the second tallest in Washington and the third tallest in the Cascade Range. It dresses up nicely in the fall no?! :-)
If it were a perfect world, I would gladly leave my normally unobtrusive watermark off in a corner. But sadly, it is not. And so I am forced to now place it front & center to discourage dishonest people from image theft and cropping watermarks. My apologies to image loving fans everywhere...I trust you will understand. Help fight this by reporting such abuses immediately!
"Three Birch Trees" by Patti Deters. Three birch trees stand together in a woodland field spotted during a late spring / early summer hike. Several blur techniques have been applied to give the scene a painterly look and a dreamy, peaceful feel. - www.kevin-palmer.com - Bridges are a rare sight in the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Most creeks have to be waded through, which is a challenge in early June when the water is high. But I was thankful for this bridge on the trail next to Solitude Falls.

I love this time of year in Colorado! The colors are so amazing and bright! This is White River National Forest just outside of Minturn, Co.
