A fall Mountain side reflection provides an interesting backdrop on a high elevation pond in the San Juan Mountains of SW Colorado.

Loved the way the different colored aspens lined the dirt road and the shadows cast by the afternoon light on the dirt road. Taken near Monarch Pass.

Thanks for all the comments. EXPLORE 10/10/11

Splendor along the road....

Around every bend is a scene like this during autumn in the San juan Mountains of Colorado

When shooting the fall colors in Colorado on the Front Range, you are always on the lookout for reds and deep oranges. They can be far and few between year to year. Not like the SW part of the state that gets a larger range of colors. I found this nice scenic spot of red in October above Gold Hill in West Boulder County. Hope you enjoy.

I did manage to find a grove where the leaves were still on the trees for the most part! Viewing Aspens in the Fall has been a part of me since childhood, and is as essential to the season just as turkey is to Thanksgiving and Santa is to Christmas!

Taken a couple of weeks ago in the Eastern Sierras of California, a few miles above Tom's Place. We were on a trip with the Poly Photo Club of San Diego to photograph fall colors, and I think we timed it pretty well. We don't get the same bright reds as the people back in the eastern part of the country do.

Other pictures that I've taken over the years in the this beautiful area are in my Eastern Sierras album.

I've heard this spot at the Crystal River Mill near Marble, Colorado referred to as the most photographed spot in the state. I don't think that's true partly because there's a 4WD trail that tends to discourage the crowds. On this late night adventure during the peak of the fall foliage season, I decided to make a run for my vision of this historic mill with some long-exposure star trails above.

In this case, I had a pretty big challenge come up though… just outside of Marble, a deer bolted out of the woods and flashed right in front of my 4Runner. I was going about 45 and ended up killing the deer instantly and causing damage to my 4Runner. I had a few minutes on one of the pullouts to assess the damage and consider my options. And after pulling a bunch of metal and other materials out of my wheel wells to get some of my turning radius, I determined that nothing critical had been damaged… I still had some lights! So I made the decision to stick with my plan and continue on to 4WD trail up to the mill.

Bear Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. View large on black

Even though the leaves have fallen from the Aspen trees, they are still as elegant as ever. Their shape and form will grace the winter landscape when all is white with snow. Patiently they will endure until spring dresses them once again...all in preparation for the dazzling display of another Autumn.

Sunrise with aspens at this high sierra lake. Given that this was 1. on a weekend morning, and 2. at peak fall color, I was stunned to find myself the only photographer there for sunrise yesterday. Apparently, they were all at North Lake. :-D

This was taken a month ago, if you were in Colorado right now all you would see is white, snow!

Going through the old archives and pulled this shot out...I have put up a couple pics from this spot, but this is the first after the sun had risen. It was a crazy morning, the wind would blow, then stop, clouds would appear, then disappear...anyway, here it is : )

Gull Lake - October 22, 2015

I arrived here in total darkness and set my tripod up on the end of a concrete boat dock at the far end of the small marina behind the general store. I listened to an owl "hoot" in the morning as the light gradually replaced the blackness of the night.

There was an obvious bite in the air and I could feel the tingle of the cold morning air on my ears, nose and cheeks as I sipped hot black coffee out of my thermos mug. I was so much enjoying the fall conditions and the peacefulness of the morning. I knew that this was a special time and gave thanks.

In this early morning scene along the shores of Gull Lake I was trying to tell a story about the peacefulness of autumn. Quiet - Cold - Calm - Beautiful.

I believe this was captured after a snowy evening in early October '14 outside of the town of Crested Butte. I just dug this one up while re-organizing my desktop computer. Have a great weekend everyone!

Look at this LARGE its crazy!

I have to start off by giving thanks John and Jave. John, big thanks for showing us around yesterday. That was a classic photo day for sure! We shot from sunrise to 12 in the afternoon! When does that ever happen? We had great light, nice storm clouds, and color for days! We couldn't have picked a better time to come shoot southern Utah. If any of you guys want to shoot southern Utah/Zion National Park area and want to see some other sights in the area, John is man. Thanks John.

Now...........thanks Jave. Jave and I had to come up with this master plan to upload this image. Here it is.........I spent 3 hours on this image, to find out, that I can't post it to flickr. This was a 3 image vertical pano/vertorama. I'm thinking that the file was to large or something. I tried re-sizing and everything else I could think of, and nothing! No luck! WTF!!!!!! Jave comes up with this idea for me to email my image to him from my iphone, then he'll see if he can upload my image to flickr. He gets my email, uploads my image, bam! We're good! Jave then emails me back the image, then I have to save the image and all this other crap, because I'm at work and they use Windows at my job, which I hate, and can't use, so to make a long story short, we figured out a way to upload this image. Thanks Jave, I'll see you next week bro! Northern Cal here I come! :-)

The trip..........WOW! Thats about all I can say. Stunning views everywhere, peak colors, and was hanging out with good people! Aaron M and I made the 330 am drive up towards Zion National Park to meet up with John. John had us on back roads and cliffs with the most amazing views. By far one of the best shooting days of this year! It was well worth the drive, and the worth the I want to stay in bed Monday attitude. I can't wait to get back up this way next fall. Thanks everybody for the visit, I hope you enjoy view, and sorry about the exif data, I have no idea where it went. Thanks.

This is one of my new favorite places, just another beautiful day in Colorado!
