Golden aspen trees in Colorado. I love how the white tree trunks stand out against the fall colors. I tried to give this image a painterly feel with subtle processing in Lightroom.
It's a gorgeous Fall morning up in the high country as Union Pacific ES44AC No. 8198 brings up the rear on the North Yard (Denver), Colorado to Grand Junction, Colorado manifest train at the east end of East Portal siding on September 27, 2015.
Autumn at Oxbow Bend. It was windy that day, so no reflections in the river, but the color was fantastic. Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA, October 2023

I first heard of the Dancing Aspens a few years ago. I'm not typically into visiting spots other photographers favor, but I felt drawn to see this grove of trees since I live only a few hours away.
Everyone I know that has gone has always guarded their location. After reading some blogs and getting some riddle-esque tips from friends, I had a pretty good idea of where they were. Since it was autumn and the leaves would be golden, we headed up to where I thought they would be and quickly found the grove!
There was another photographer there when we arrived. I let him get his shots before I took too many of my own using my classic lenses, my Canon FD 24mm f/1.4 L, Noct-Nikkor, and some ultrawide photos with the modern Sony 4/16-35.
We spent about an hour enjoying the changing light as the clouds passed overhead and taking photos before heading out to find a campsite.

"Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. A civilization which destroys what little remains of the wild, the spare, the original, is cutting itself off from its origins and betraying the principle of civilization itself.”
― Edward Abbey, Desert Solitaire
A setting looking to the north while taking in views through a nearby aspen forest. This was at a roadside pullout along the Alpine Loop Scenic Backway in Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. My thought on composing this image was the zoom in with the focal length and focus on one section of the forest around me. I wanted the aspens to stretch across the image from edge to edge as well as top to bottom. The idea would be to see only the whites of the trunks/bark and greens of the leaves.
While at a roadside pullout along the Alpine Loop Scenic Backway in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The view is looking to the south-southeast at a nearby aspen forest. My thought on composing this image was to zoom in with the focal length and have that forest fill the image from edge to edge.
Happy Fence Friday!!
The aspen trees this year were a little hit and miss due to several factors, including moths and drought. These however were a hit!

Located 9,000 feet high on a cliff above the Eagle River, the abandoned mining town of Gilman is a photographic history museum. The town of Gilman was once a thriving silver and zinc producer dating back to the late 1800's, but has been abandoned after an EPA shutdown in 1984.
Every now and then the earth and sky put on such a show of splendor it just takes your breath away. This morning was one of those times.

A fence through the Aspen trees of Colorado. This is common scene in the mountains of Colorado and liked how the fence disappears into the trees. Shot on a sunny day, I was able to bring out the dynamic range in Lightroom.
A high perch view overlooking the Grand Teton National Park. Aspen trees are in the foreground. I'd love to have that view from my deck.
