Aspen, Colorado
The Maroon Bells are two peaks in the Elk Mountains, Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak, separated by about half a kilometer. The mountains are on the border between Pitkin County and Gunnison County, Colorado, United States, about 19 kilometres southwest of Aspen. Both peaks are fourteeners.
While at a roadside pullout along the Alpine Loop Scenic Backway with a view looking down and across American Fork Canyon. This view is a look to west and is in Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. My thought on composing this image was to take advantage of the canyon with its steep sides coming off the mountainsides as a leading line into the image. My other thought was how the ridges and spurs coming off those mountainside helped to create a layered look with one coming after the other. The rest was later making adjustments with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

This road is the beginning of an epic 4 wd adventure into the mighty San Juan Mountains in SW Colorado.
A setting looking to the southwest while taking in views across a forest and hillsides leading up to more distant mountains. This is along a roadside pullout along the Alpine Loop Scenic Backway in Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The rest of my thoughts were composing an image with a sweeping view from the higher ground I was on and across this national forest landscape leading up to the ridges and peaks. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
Red-winged Blackbird landing on a young aspen tree. With the proliferation of new trees came many new feathered friends.
"The Red-winged Blackbird... has scarlet-and-yellow shoulder patches they can puff up or hide depending on how confident they feel. Females are a subdued, streaky brown, almost like a large, dark sparrow.."

Island Lake | Marble, Colorado
We arrived early morning at Island Lake in Marble, Colorado for sunrise. However, the lake was entirely covered with mist and Ragged Peak was hidden upon arrival. I met another photographer at the scene who is from around this area and he suggested the conditions might still change. And they did. It was amazing to watch the sun shining through the mist.
This is a somewhat rare stand of reddish orange tinted Aspen trees displaying brilliant fall colors.
This picture was taken late last October. There were only bare branches and brown twigs in the park at this time of year. My eyes were aimlessly scanning through skeletal trees. An aspen tree, the only tree in the park standing up straight and tall with her golden leaves caught my eye.
Loneliness lost its power and solitude took over.
