Walking through the forest I noticed this pretty landscape opening up in front of me. I love it when the fallen leaves are carpeting the forest floor. These bright leaves were glowing and they caught my attention. I had to capture this moment.
Late spring now at the lookout. The balsamroot is in peak condition. There were some nice clouds filling the sky that day. I was hoping to catch a good sunset with the flowers in bloom, but maybe next year. Alta, Wyoming, USA, June 2025

"Fog Avalanche"
While driving up and down countless miles of roads looking for interesting photographic fall foliage compositions, this suddenly appeared. The fog and clouds and light were moving so fast, that every second the scene was different. I loved this dark cloud of fog rolling down this mountainside of aspen trees.

The highway that leads to South Lake near Bishop California has many side roads. Generally, they are only one lane that leads to campgrounds and other points of interest. Most of the roads are like this one, which goes alongside and through groves of beautiful aspen trees. Traveling on them in autumn is a breathtaking experience. This photo is from our autumn road-trip of California's Eastern Sierra in 2017.

A breezy spring morning out at Mormon Row. The challenge when trying to photograph this area from a distance is that there are always visitors walking in and out of the area, so you either have to wait for them all to clear, which hardly ever happens, or take multiple frames and mask out the areas to remove people as they move around. In this case, I got lucky with no people and some nice morning light was peeking through the clouds. It took quite a bit of waiting because in addition to the tourists, there was a wedding photographer out that morning with clients. This might even be better as a 2x1 pano, cropping out some of the bottom. A 4x5 crop taking out the right also puts the Grand Teton peak in the center and also works. A Tapestry of Colors Across an Alpine Hillside
Trees of many kinds showing off a carpet of Autumn
Mountains peaks and ridges have created folds over the Earth
An amazing construct and theatre for the eyes and mind
A serenity of nature while a sole ravens soars above.
Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one afternoon in Uinta National Forest while driving along the Alpine Loop Drive. With the sweeping view to my front, I wanted to capture a wider, more panoramic view and angled my Nikon SLR slightly downward. I found it brought out more of the vista like view with the mountain peaks up high.
The occupants drove this classic over the Tioga Pass this morning at an elevation of 9,942' without heat ! Fun to talk to them about their adventure ;-)

I was delighted to snap this whimsical looking forested area of Trembling Aspen. They are so tall and breezy looking and they almost appeared to be dancing (or running) through this happy looking meadow.

Trembling Aspen ( Populus tremuloides ) is a medium-sized <40m tall) deciduous broad-leaved tree, at maturity with a short, rounded crown, smooth, cylindrical stem, and greenish gray, furrowed bark. Many kinds of wildlife use the foliage, twigs, and buds for food.
Leaf stalk is flattened and longer than the leaf blade. Leaves are wide with a pointed tip. The slightest breeze causes leaves to “tremble.”

The Cariboo Gold Rush was a gold rush in the Colony of British Columbia, which later became the Canadian province of British Columbia. The first gold discovery was made at Hills Bar in 1858, followed by more strikes in 1859 on the Horsefly River, and on Keithley Creek and Antler Creek in 1860. The actual rush did not begin until 1861, when these discoveries were widely publicized. By 1865, following the strikes along Williams Creek, the rush was in full swing.
Towns grew up, the most famous of these being Barkerville, now preserved as a heritage site and tourist attraction. Other important towns of the Cariboo gold rush era were Keithley Creek, Quesnel Forks or simply "the Forks", Antler, Richfield, Quesnellemouthe (which would later be shortened to Quesnel), Horsefly and, around the site of the Hudson's Bay Company's fort of the same name, Alexandria.

In sadness. And memento mori.
Apologies!
Thank you to those who contacted me. You encouraged me to upload one of my shots. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Closing comments now. Thank you all. I’m pretending that we’re moving to New Zealand or nearby Canada if they’d have us, at least in my mind. Must vote here in November.
JFK stated in 1963, America “was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.”
What a difference a year makes! No fall colors for me this year. Just starting the long recovery from a ruptured achilles tendon. Enjoy the colors while you can!
Aspen, Colorado
The Maroon Bells are two peaks in the Elk Mountains, Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak, separated by about half a kilometer. The mountains are on the border between Pitkin County and Gunnison County, Colorado, United States, about 19 kilometres southwest of Aspen. Both peaks are fourteeners.
While at a roadside pullout along the Alpine Loop Scenic Backway with a view looking down and across American Fork Canyon. This view is a look to west and is in Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. My thought on composing this image was to take advantage of the canyon with its steep sides coming off the mountainsides as a leading line into the image. My other thought was how the ridges and spurs coming off those mountainside helped to create a layered look with one coming after the other. The rest was later making adjustments with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
