One of the things I love about Autumn is the way the ground cover in the woods turns golden right along with the leaves. It is this combination of events that gives the woods that golden glow. Oh how I love it!

Aspen trees on Kenosha pass. The morning started out overcast and chilly, but the sun did finally come out so I could get some shots of the yellow aspens against the blue sky.

Fall is my favorite time of year. A hike on a crisp morning among the yellow leaves just can't be beat.

Maroon Bells is called one of the most stunning outdoor settings in North America and it's on the bucket list of many photographers "with a burning desire to capture their own version of Maroon Lake" according to Laurent Martrès, from the book Photographing the Southwest. I was one of them!

We visited the area around Maroon Lake with a (at that time) obligated shuttle service from Aspen Highlands. It was very busy there indeed, but I was glad I had the chance to see all the overwhelming beauty, though it was only for a few hours.

Thank you for taken your time to visit me, comments or faves are always much appreciated!

Colorado Fall is nothing less than spectacular!

Just before sunrise looking towards one of the many impressive mountain ranges there.

I was able to get out yesterday for one last quest for color. One of my favorite hiking trails was essentially done, with lots of leaves on the ground and many trees bare already. This little grove of aspen trees is on Squaw pass, and the color won't be lasting long. We have some cold weather and a chance of snow flurries coming on Thursday.

Elevation 9,790ft

I was about a week too late on the changing of the leaves this year. This would have been a really nice spot if it was in full bloom.

If this scene looks a bit familiar it is because I photograph it every Autumn! Smile. It's one of my favorite sunset shots in Autumn on a little road not to many ever travel. Last night was my night to get up there and shoot it before the color goes.

After being in the desert for a few months, it was nice driving north and hiking around Flagstaff on a Sunday. It was about 50 degrees cooler, misty, rainy, and foggy. Kinda nice for a change

While at a roadside pullout along the Alpine Loop Scenic Backway, with a view looking to the southwest to ridges and peaks coming off the southern portion of Mount Timpanogos in the Central Wasatch Range. This location is in Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. My thought on composing this image was to use a wide angle focal length to capture more of the distant mountain range. But I also wanted to use some of the nearby forest of evergreens and aspens to create a layered approach leading up to those mountains. I felt both aspects helped to bring out more of a complete setting to this national forest landscape.

To me, Fall Aspens stand out best when backlit or heavily side lit. This image has a pleasing interplay of sunlight & shadow that showcases the color of Autumn. _E8U3294

Located on the east bank of the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park, Schwabacher's Landing is a great location to see the Teton Range at sunrise. On this morning the river water was slow moving with no wind, providing an excellent surface to reflect the Teton Range in the background. The fall colors in the middle-ground complemented the cloudless blue sky. The warm light of the rising sun highlighting the mountains warmed my heart with the beauty of it all.

Montana's Glacier National Park has one road that traverses the park from east to west ... the Going-to-the-Sun Road. It was designed to give access to the park while preserving the park's beauty. In my opinion, the effort was an outstanding success: as demonstrated by this spectacular view looking up the valley to Logan Pass. The road is visible; but unless it is pointed out, it's difficult to identify its line.

I can not get the images out of my head from the Philippines. If I were to imagine a scenario for hell it could not be this bad. Sometimes reality is just too harsh. My heart and prayers is with them, but what is that? Nothing.

I am experiencing what I always experience at this time of the year ... a heart pounding excitement for AUTUMN to hurry up and get here! Smile. I am anxious for when the orange glow is the Autumn aspen glow and not fires. HURRY AUTUMN we need you!

THANKS for taking a peek.

A 'forsting' covered every twing, weed, log, rock ... it was beautiful. If you could see this large you can see the little creek right of center and in the foreground the deer's footprints that went down for a morning drink.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could see all our photos really large ... well so you can walk right into this scene and see the deer's tracks, etc. here it is in 3000 pixels. www.moonandbackgraphics.com/brook.html

I first heard of the Dancing Aspens a few years ago. I'm not typically into visiting spots other photographers favor, but I felt drawn to see this grove of trees since I live only a few hours away.

Everyone I know that has gone has always guarded their location. After reading some blogs and getting some riddle-esque tips from friends, I had a pretty good idea of where they were. Since it was autumn and the leaves would be golden, we headed up to where I thought they would be and quickly found the grove!

There was another photographer there when we arrived. I let him get his shots before I took too many of my own using my classic lenses, my Canon FD 24mm f/1.4 L, Noct-Nikkor, and some ultrawide photos with the modern Sony 4/16-35.

We spent about an hour enjoying the changing light as the clouds passed overhead and taking photos before heading out to find a campsite.

By the time I arrived in Yellowstone, most of the red and orange of autumn had come and gone. But there was still plenty of brilliant yellows to be had in many of the Aspen groves, like the one pictured here. While that's the reality of coming later in the season, we more than made up for it in having much of the Park to ourselves in all but the busiest of locations.

Compositionally Challenged Week 38 - Changing Seasons

We drove the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway today to do some leaf peeping, the aspens are starting to change. Lunch was at our favorite spot in Estes Park - You Need Pie. And yes, we each had a slice of Apple Ginger Peach pie. : )

This fence and field are shown in the short video included in the first link. Guess I'm not the first one to shoot it, lol!
