Many years ago when I was still in High School, I had a friend who loved to draw comical worms and she always called them William. This one I saw through the fence on the wall of an old school building no longer in use. I can't help but wonder if my old High School friend was responsible for it's appearance.

More outdoor decorations with snowmen that are blown up like balloons and little reindeers with lights. Decorations in Las Vegas are always different than in areas where winter has snow, but they are always beautiful and unique in their own way.

This metal sculpture overlooks the busy Marine Drive section of West Vancouver, BC. Titled: 'Overflow IV'

NB: I was just in West Van Oct. 23rd and this sculpture has been taken down. I do not know why; if it is for the winter season, renovations, etc.

Subject: Sculpture...

In case you don't see my response to your comment on my sculpture shot:

Yes, your sculpture and the one I photographed are by the same artist, Jaume Plensa. The sculpture I photographed has been in this park here in WI since September, 2010, though, so your artwork cannot be the same one in my photo. Plensa has sculptures all over the world, several of which are similar to the ones we photographed. The one here in WI is titled Spillover II. Thanks for your comment and interest!

Here's the link I found, that describes the exact location the sculpture used to be located at:

digital.westvanlibrary.ca/index.php/d0015-wvml;dc

The title in West Vancouver is: D0015.WVML - Overflow IV

The base of this lamp was made with real hair from seals but now that would not be allowed anymore. It was a Farewell gift from my Montreal Neighbours when I moved to the USA. I moved back to Canada later both BC and now back to Montreal.

Up first:

Glory and blessings to the gods of transportation/recovery/rescue. Without you, our lives would no longer be possible!

The bulk material in this former wooden toy truck is of course made of real pit coal. I even placed something golden in there.

Since I'm not even good at paint brushing to anything, the Canadian mouth and nose cover interpretation should probably never be viewed from up close.

However, many of my "arts" here have been integrated both visibly and invisibly.

/

This mirror sits on my balcony table along with a plant and a wooden cat. I've always liked the reflections in the mirror.

Loved this little frog figure with his umbrella and measuring water tube. He sat on balcony rail at my brother's house in Montreal in the subdivision of Elm Park in Dollard des Ormeaux. QC.

Her face in shadow, sitting on a bench by a bus stop, she looks at her wallet taken from her purse, in which a flower was placed by a passing stranger. Many passer by's like to place flowers picked from around her and place them into her purse or lap. It is a well known statue in the Coal Harbour area along thet the causeway leading over the Lions Gate Bridge to the North Shore.

I took this photo with a small camera from the bus window just before going over the bridge.

Location is between Vancouver and the North Shore which includes West Vancouver and North Vancouver. These two are separate cities.

This wish was written on a railing of a bridge overlooking a ravine in Burnaby, BC by a school child. In fact, the entire railings on both sides of the bridge were covered with drawings and writings in chalk, but some had been washed out by rain.

This house had so many decorations that I had difficulty getting them all in on my photo. The decorations are spectacular. I used my smaller camera to catch this shot; tried it with cell phone also but preferred this photo.

#A hundred Year old Kinnala Doll

A Kinnala artist first roughly draws the character on the wood, and then chisels to create an initial model. After this, a mixture of liquid tamarind and pebble paste is applied, and the idol is left to dry. Finer details are then carved out and the final shape is given. If the piece is very large, different components such as the limbs and head are made separately and joined together using a mixture made from boiling a mixture of ground tamarind seeds, wood powder and thin jute strands. A paste of pebble powder and liquid gum is used as an adhesive for embossing patterns including jewelry, on the idols. Layers of cloth soaked in tamarind paste are applied to coat the figure. Once the idol is complete, it is covered in white paint, made using chalk powder, after which colours such as red, green, blue and yellow are applied. In some pieces, a rare technique is used without the use of fabric, where fine beaten zinc mixed with herbs is applied to the wood, producing a shiny gold colour. This is a lengthy and costly process, and hence, only a few families still practice the technique.

The lack of financial support, adequate training and economic viability is making the next generation in Kinnala artist families reluctant to carry on this centuries’ old tradition. Wider recognition, and support by patrons will help sustain this incredible artform.

My glass table sits near the wall and features my favourite Christmas cloth, favourite lamp which was a gift, and some found art on either side.

This interesting display of two monkeys holding a crystal dish was displayed on the counter of the same office as the lion base coat rack.

Found this mug on sale just after the Christmas Holidays in a speciality shop for Christmas gift items. It was a good discounted price. As an Aries, I think it fits my personality.

Hanging on the decorated Christmas Tree in our Lobby is this cute little ornament. Looks very cheerful.

Christmas Trees are everywhere in Apartment Lobbies as well as outdoors. Despite the Covid-19 Pandemic, we are still hoping to enjoy the Holiday with decorations.

A cool display found at the Heidelberg Project. Since it referenced the Phoenix, I added a sky layer to give it the appearance of fire and rising from the ashes.

A small collection of things we gathered over the years

These canoes on the beach are at Ambleside in West Vancouver, BC and belong to the First Nations Peoples of the Squamish Band. This section of the beach is on their Reserve Land area.

One of two local Art Galleries, situated by the Ocean Walk and Park areas. It's all right there for us to enjoy in Ambleside, West Vancouver, BC. Even the Children have their playground here. One can picnic on grass, sit on benches or picnic tables, find a rocky or log to enjoy or sit on the beach area if you find a good spot that does not have too many rocks. How spoiled can we get? For me it is just across the street, not even a block away.

They are just about over, but today, January 6th, 2019 is the last day we kept our Christmas decorations up. We called it Little Christmas; it is Epiphany according to the Christian Calendar and the Russian Orthodox Calendar lasts even longer; I have a Russian friend who reminds me of that.

A child's drawing on the railing of a bridge going over a ravine in Burnaby, BC. Rain had washed out some of these drawings.

We are getting close to that day when the Goblins come out to trick or treat us for goodies.

Also in honour of Universal Children's Day, Nov. 20, 2014.

A bit of whimsy to share of what lies beyond the curtains in the night sky with the magic of a full moon and stars. It's a place to dream on for young and old.

Shot was taken through a cold and wet window with water drops. The curtains were behind me so they are a reflection with the addition of some camera flares.

I share this with All the Small and Big Children of the World for both Universal and International Children's Day. Many will have dreams to be built on and hope to have them come true.

There were some interesting Porcelain Figures in the window of a local Antique Shop and this was one of them. the features and the colouring as well as the details were very beautiful.

Have a Very Happy Valentine's Day, my Dear Flickr Friends. xoxox

What appears to be a decoration on this pumpkin was actually a balcony railing behind which this pumpkin was displayed. Part of the balcony railing was glass.

The men were working on the railway lines and doing repairs a few days ago. I think they painted this section to mark a switch or to come or to come back to do some more repairs. It kind of looks like and Abstract Painting.

neal and i are constant travelers.we have visited so many exciting places.

we travel, at this point, in the summer, since that is when neal has his school holiday (he's an 8th grade geography teacher).

this summer we are planning another adventure (last year africa...this year destination can be anywhere world wide!)

we usually try to swap houses....a fun way to really live in a community and be part of where we are as opposed to "just tourists".

thought you might enjoy getting a peek at where i live and where i make my art.

Within steps of our front door you are minutes away by public transportation from the cultural, historical and intellectual excitement of Washington DC. Being off the Interstate Highway you are an hour away from many of the beautiful rural and historic towns of Virginia and Maryland, to include excellent hiking in the Appalachian Mountains and Shenandoah National Park.

Our home is a bright, comfortable, modern, small brick colonial style townhouse recently renovated in an open loft like style. It is set in a treed courtyard - in a long established community now designated a historic site. The type of place where the streets are full of people jogging and others walking their children and dogs - a safe place where people are friendly.

There is a living room dining room combination on the first floor together with a modern granite topped kitchen (glass top stove, microwave, dishwasher and garbage disposal, etc.) The kitchen door leads to a private, enclosed brick patio perfect for morning coffee or outdoors dining.

On the second floor there is a master bedroom with queen sized bed and a full bath with tub and shower. The small second room, which leads to an art studio, is used, as our grand-daughter’s play room.

The third floor is a full level art studio.

The lower floor - reached from the kitchen - leads to a large den with cable HDTV/DVD and includes an office area with computer. On this level is a second full bathroom with shower and toilet and washer and dryer. It also includes a folding tread mill.

The entire house has ac, with ceiling fans in the bedroom and studio. There are hardwood floor on four levels. The house has contemporary furniture and is excitingly decorated with modern art.

There is a full sized aero inflatable bed that can be set up in any of the rooms for children or other guests.

Time to relax - a large community swimming pool and two tennis courts are just behind the house. A five minute walk takes you to a large shopping center that can meet all your needs from two supermarkets, a coffee cafe, pharmacy, dry cleaners, beauty shop, bank and so forth. A twenty minute walk takes you to a local entertainment center with several movie theaters and a large variety of restaurants (including one of the best in the Washington area) and a wonderful bakery.

art outside the edge

This was kind of a neat statue of a large horse, advertising a store in Las Vegas, NV called P.F. Changs. I never got into the store, so did not see what kind of goods they were selling.

Metal sculpture designed by Haarlem painter and musician Hannes Kuiper, who died a few weeks ago at 79. It expresses the relation between man and cosmos. The sculpture was created on behalf of ProRail, the Dutch national railway infrastructure manager, and placed at Haarlem Spaarnwoude station in 2002

This old rusted hook was screwed into a blue wooden fence post or something of that nature, and had bits of ivy covering it.

A cute bulldog figure inviting people to come in and browse in a gift shop in Las Vegas.
