The Mannequin Man

Who is the man spreading terror in the City of Lights?

The case raises two questions: are the victims dead? Who is the man behind this?

I wrote an article last week that was published this morning in Media Post's Marketing Daily e-newsletter. It's about how toys have changed over the years and today's toys often have a digital component. Some toys even teach kids about being "green."

Notes/transcriptions: "Sheik of the South Shore"...REALLY?! Such exaggerated wording. Another sensationalized account of the divorce proceedings between my great-granduncle Herbert and his poor, suffering wife, Melvina. BTW, Herbert died less than three years later. Did he and Melvina actually divorce? I will be keenly looking for divorce records; but based on conflicting information supplied on his death notice and death certificate—I get a feeling that they did, since the only informant for his death certificate was "hospital records." I'm both elated with these very recent finds but reminded of the overall sense of sadness I've felt toward my KANE family the more I have discovered.

My remembrance photography has caught the attention of the British people, as this newspaper asked me to do an interview to publish an article on this type of photography. It's not such a bad thing to be Dutch after all ;-)

This is the kick-off of a series of articles

on preserving, which will run through the late summer. Jan

Roberts-Dominguez has written for FD in the past, but not for awhile.

She's got a lot of fans, so I'd like to make kind of a splash now that

she's back.

I also want to convey a feeling of "preserving's not just for old

grannies, it's kind of trendy, too" Jan isn't young, but she's very cute

and youthful, so I'd like to portray her as such.

I also need some detail shots of the canning equipment, because I'd

like the layout to be a series of photos and deep captions instead of

just running text. These can be grouped into three: 1) processing pot

and rack; 2) canning jars and canning lids; 3) jar funnel, jar lifter,

lid lifter and thermometer. Have fun with these.

Article from 1982 Small Boat Journal #23 about the construction of a Phil Bolger designed Centenial II sailboat.

Some vanity shots of my article in Outdoor Photographer (March 2009 issue). I know, I'm a dork...but I'm so excited!

Vancouver Sun article calls Caterina's blog an "Eclectic, relatively high-brow journal of what she's read, movies she's seen, ideas she's thought."

It is reported that a 12-year-old boy died yesterday due to Nipah virus infection in Kozhikode, Kerala. The samples of the boy were tested at Pune National Institute of Virology & Nipah infection was confirmed.

As per information, fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are the natural host of Nipah virus, through their saliva. As such, treatment or vaccine is not available for either humans or animals. The primary treatment is only supportive care & fatality rate is estimated at 40% to 75%.

The infection exhibits wide range of clinical presentations, from asymptomatic infection (subclinical) to acute respiratory infection & fatal encephalitis. Since, the signs & symptoms are nonspecific, we might miss the initial cases & this can play havoc in spreading the disease before we identify it. The symptoms of Nipah infection, bird flu & swine flu are quite similar.

The incubation period is known to range from 4 to 14 days normally & even extended to 45 days. Survivors of acute encephalitis are prone for prolonged neurologic complications, including seizures, personality changes etc. In few cases, relapse or delayed onset of encephalitis also is reported.

Symptoms include fever, headaches, muscle pain, vomiting & sore throat, followed by dizziness, drowsiness, altered consciousness, or neurological signs that indicate acute encephalitis. Some people also experience atypical pneumonia & severe respiratory problems, including acute respiratory distress. Encephalitis & seizures occur in severe cases, progressing to coma within 24 to 48 hours.

Diagnostic tools used are RT-PCR from bodily fluids & detection of antibodies through immunosorbent assay (ELISA), in addition to cell culture. Culling of infected animals & cautioned burial, incineration of carcasses are preferred to reduce the risk of transmission to people, once we identify the source.

Personal protective measures should be worn while handling patients, sick animals, or their tissues, without fail. Regular hand washing should be carried out if you are caring or visiting sick people.

TAILPIECE: As there is no cure, awareness is the only way out to prevent the deadly disease. Again, care should be taken to avoid usage of palm sap & other fresh & birds bitten food products. Avoid consumption of unpasteurized fruit juices or partly eaten fruits. Freshly collected palm juice should be boiled & fruits thoroughly washed & peeled before consumption. Doctor can cure the disease, but only a great doctor can cure the cause.

An article in “Att”, a women magazine. It is about post feminism.

From an old newspaper article:

The forefathers of Jamestown were dependent on this mill to grind the tough RI flint corn, their chief article of food.

Article Title: Revision of Icacinaceae from the Early Eocene London Clay flora based on X-ray micro-CT

Author: Gregory W. Stull, Neil F. Adams, Steven R. Manchester, Dan Sykes, Margaret E. Collinson

Citation: Botany, 2016, 94(9): 713-745, doi.org/10.1139/cjb-2016-0063

Caption: Fig. 4. Iodes multireticulata Reid et Chandler from the London Clay Formation. (A–G and I–K) Holotype (V22589): (A) endocarp in lateral view, by reflected light (from pl. 15, fig. 1 in Reid & Chandler (1933), used with permission) with numerous (30–50) concave depressions across the lateral faces; (B–G) digital renderings of the micro-CT scan data; (B) isosurface in lateral view showing outer pyritic encrustation formed since image in A was taken; (C) translucent volume rendering of the endocarp, with locule cast isosurface rendering within, lateral view; (D) lateral view of locule cast showing depressions corresponding to those on the endocarp surface seen in A; (E) basal view of B; (F) apical view of locule cast, superimposed on a micro-CT transverse section through the endocarp; (G) ventral view of locule cast. (H, L, and M) Digital isosurface renderings of V22595, a seed/internal cast of seed with adherent endocarp: (H) lateral view; (L) basal view with outer pyritic encrustation; (M) apical view of locule cast. (I–K) Micro-CT transverse sections through the holotype: (I) median; (J) in upper third; (K) in upper quarter. None of the transverse sections (I–K) or isosurface renderings (B–H, L, and M) shows the position of the primary vascular bundle, perhaps due to abrasion or degradation from pyrite decay. As shown in (F) and (I–K), endocarp wall thickness is missing in key areas where the vascular bundle may once have been positioned, so this character cannot be assessed in the current state of preservation. (N–Q) A locule cast with adherant remains of endocarp (V22591): (N and O) isosurface rendering of a locule cast with possible apical remains of the vascular bundle, lateral and ventral views, respectively; (P) sagittal section showing remains of endocarp surrounding the locule cast; (Q) transverse section. Scale bar in A = 5 mm (applies to A–G); scale bar in H = 5 mm (applies also to L and M); scale bar in I = 5 mm (applies also to J and K); scale bar in N = 5 mm (applies also to O); scale bar in Q = 5 mm (applies also to P). www.nrcresearchpress.com/journal/cjb

Planet Earth Needs your Help

This month is water conservation month in one of Florida's very populated counties, so I thought it would be nice to see how we might apply the United Nation’s concept of working with Nature to solve a problem on the planet. This latest article looks at what is currently done to conserve and manage water and what could be done using Nature’s method to manage and conserve this vital resource.

Article about hot to modeling a Leica special edition of Moleskine virtually

www.moleskiner.cn/node/318

This article was scanned from "University of California Botanical Garden Newsletter, Vol. 35, Numbers 1 & 2"; published by the University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley

I recently wrote an article on specialty pins and their uses, as well as reasons against usage of cheap pins for www.Quilt-Blog.de Little did I know this surprise would await me when finally deciding to finish and old UFO of mine which was pinned with pins from the 99cent bin before I knew better.
