Ginger Jam.
I used this recipe but it was pretty obvious early on that it just wasn't going to work. Maybe it was because the only apple I had was a gala? Anyway, I added another half cup each of water and sugar, the juice of half a lemon and about 2tsp of lemon zest which let it set up. It might actually be a little over firm since I was busy dealing with my burn when I should (time wise) have been turning off the heat and canning.
Oh well, from what I scraped out of the pot it tastes pretty damn good.

I saw an article on the web today about taking rubbings of industrial architectural features - in the same was as brass rubbings are done in churches - and using them as decorations.
I don't have the equipment for doing rubbings, and I'd probably get arrested trying it in Westminster, anyway! I do, however, have a camera for photographing such things, and some of them are actually quite interesting.
This is a small vent to allow air into and out of a basement in one of the buildings near my office. It was originally made by the St Pancras Ironwork Co. Henry Bessemer moved into Baxter House sometime before 23 September 1841 and established the St Pancras Ironworks behind the house. It was here that he developed his "Bessemer Process" for the manufacture of steel. When his process was not taken up by other producers he erected a steelworks in Sheffield which provided quality steel at £20 per ton cheaper than the competitors. This prompted his competitors to licence his process, making Bessemer a millionaire. The St Pancras Ironworks was cleared about 1870 to make way for the Midland Railway coal drops.
