Lexus unveiled a real stunning concept vehicle the LF-LC hybrid sport coupe concept. Designed at its Calty design studio in California, the LF-LC, which won the EyesOnDesign Award for Design Excellence – Concept Vehicle, is said to represent the new design direction for Lexus.

I saw the article about your project in the magazine and wanted to send you info on John L Bower, a Civil War veteran in my family who lived in Kansas for many years and is buried there. I received this information via snail mail several years ago.
I believe the attached newspaper article detailing his Civil War service is from The Jacksonian. And the tombstone is from Cimarron Cemetery, Cimarron, Gray Co, Kansas – you may want to take a better photo when you’re in the area. John was my fourth great uncle. I live in Ohio, where John was born – I’ve also attached a screen shot of my family page for him. Let me know if you have questions and good luck with your project.

John L. Bower was born in the town of Middlefield, Geauga county, Ohio, August 30, 1843. He was the seventh son of a family of nine boys and three girls—nine of whom, six boys and three girls, grew to manhood and womanhood. All of the boys answered their country’s call to arms. One was killed in battle in Chickamauga September 19, 1863. Two others died of disease contracted in the service before the close of the war. Another died some years later, also of disease contracted in the service.
John L. enlisted for three years on August 20, 1861, in Co. B, 41st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. April 8, 1862, on the battlefield of Shiloh, he was promoted to Corporal. January 1, 1864, at Chattanooga, Tennessee, he reenlisted as a veteran for three years more. On March 4, 1864, he was appointed Corporal, and on July 8, 1864, he was appointed Sergeant, and was mustered out as such with his regiment on the 27th day of November, 1865 at Camp Chase, near Columbus, Ohio. In the summer of 1865 he went with his regiment to Texas where he contracted disease, on account of which he was granted a pension in 1888.
J. L. BOWER never missed a battle or engagement in which his regiment participated. He was several times knocked down and once stunned by concussion of bullet or shell, but in all his service he never had a scratch even of the skin. His total service was four years, three months and eight days—or 1,560 days. He traveled with his regiment 5,200 miles by water, 3,800 miles by rail, and 5, 500 miles on foot—a total of 14,500 miles. In the four and one-half years of service his regiment bore on its rolls the names of 1,571 men. It lost by killed in action 122 men, and by wounded in action 618 men, its loses in action being a fraction over 48 per cent of its entire enrollment. Comrade Bower participated with his regiment in the following campaigns, battles, engagements and skirmishes: Shiloh, April 7, 1862; Farmington, Mississippi, 1862; Siege of Corinth, Mississippi, 1862; Murfreysboro, Tennessee, 1862; Bowling Green, Kentucky, 1862; Mumfordsville, Kentucky, 1862; Perrysville, Kentucky, 1862; Danville, Kentucky, 1862; Crab Orchard, Ky., 1862; Ditman N. Roads, Kentucky, 1862; Stone River, Tennessee, December 31, 1862, to January 2, 1863; Readyville, Tennessee, 1863, several skirmishes; Woodbury, Tennessee, 1863, several skirmishes; Manchester, Tennessee, 1863, several skirmishes; Tullahoma campaign, 1863, many skirmishes; Chattanooga campaign, 1863, many skirmishes; Ringold, Georgia, 1863, many skirmishes; Chickamauga, Georgia, September 19-20, 1863; Siege of Chattanooga, Tennessee, more than 60 days under fire; Capture of Brown’s Ferry, October 27, 1863; Capture of Orchard Knob and Indian Hill, November 23, 1863, where the regiment captured the 28th Alabama rebel regiment with its colors at the point of the bayonet; Missionary Ridge, November 25, 1863. In this magnificent charge Comrade Bower claims to have been amongst the first half dozen Union soldiers on top of the ridge. Knoxville campaign, 1863; Atlanta campaign, 1864,--consisting of 121 days almost continuous fighting, and including the following severe engagements; Buzzard’s Roost, Resacca, Adairsville, Kingston and Pumkinvine Creek; Pickets Mills, Georgia, May 27, 1864, where the 41st regiment charged strong works and lost 43 per cent, of its number in thirty minutes; Pine Mountain, Kenesaw Mountain, Chattahooche River, Peach Tree Cree, Siege of Atlanta; Janesboro, Lovejoy Station, all in the state of Georgia; Nashville Campaign, 1864, including Spring Hill, also Franklin, November 30th, and Nashville, December 15-16th, where Hood’s Rebel army was destroyed.
He joined Patchin Post G. A. R., in Barton, Ohio, in 1880.
Joined Capt. Hudson Post G. A. R. in Cimarron, Kansas, in 1886.
I desire the above record to be read at my funeral and the attached song, “Lay Him Low,” to be sung.

Although Competitive Apnea is increasing in popularity, it has yet to attain the cache of NASCAR. One of my goals is to enhance the visibility of the pursuit as a spectator sport. I’m also interested in promoting Competitive Apnea as a vehicle for personal betterment. Finally, I’m of course interested in publicizing my personal efforts. This is the wikipedia entry I created, which was almost instantaneously deleted by an overzealous wiki-editor. I’ve also created a website and cafepress.com account which offers apnea gifts and wearables for fundraising purposes.

Farmers, vendors draw crowd to Festival Plaza

Jacksonville, Texas, tomato grower Kevin Kadlecek wasn't quite sure what to expect Saturday when he set up for the first time at the Shreveport Farmers Market. But, he was pleasantly surprised.
"I've never seen anything like this," he said between stacking up baskets of plump red and green tomatoes and taking orders from the steady stream of people who came to his stall under the west pavilion. "It's been wonderful and better than any of the others I've been to."
More than 12,000 people filed into Festival Plaza on Saturday to fill shopping carts, colored totes and wagons with produce, crafts, spices and meat on the first day of the market's summer season. The market is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
"We're having a fantastic day," said manager Noma Fowler-Sandlin said, adding everyone was "buying and selling like mad."
Long lines of residents snaked in and around the plaza's covered pavilions for a wide assortment of fresh produce that ranged from cabbage to watermelon.
With beignets, meat pies and other Louisiana favorites available, it wasn't uncommon to see shoppers munching along as they grabbed a helping of green beans or a basket of squash. Market favorites appeared to include Bradley's sweet corn, which attracted a line of residents that stretched well out onto Crockett Street for most of the morning.
"If you don't come early, you won't get any," said Mike Chastine, who's been coming to the market for the past four years. "They're usually out by 7:30 a.m."
Lee Koehn, a member of the Bradley, Ark., Mennonite family that grows the corn, said he's seen the market grow significantly in the last five years.
"When we first got here, there were maybe 20 vendors," he said. Saturday's market included 149.
Roberta Payne, who has sold produce at the Shreveport Farmers Market since it started in the 1980s, said the number of shoppers has increased over the years, too.
The growth has been so significant that the market had to expand this year, which resulted in enough space to bring back artists after a two-year absence.
Kathryn Usher, a local artist who returned to the farmers market Saturday, said she is glad to be back because the atmosphere helped her gain direct feedback on her work, which helped her continue to develop as an artist.
New artists, such Ryan McCutcheon, who helped work on the Shreveport Convention and Tourist Bureau mural, were equally as excited to be participating in the market because of the amount of people who were exposed to their art.
The modern Shreveport Farmers Market started in 1986.
It was located in what is now the Red River District and eventually moved to the railroad bridge next to SciPort before going to its current location at Festival Plaza.
Fowler-Sandlin said over the past four years the market has grown so significantly that it seems to be becoming "the place to shop."

I am a keen photographer living in Stepney. I took lots of photos of the 'Old' Royal London Hospital in its last weeks of opening. I managed to get access into wards operating theatres etc as they lay empty as staff and patients were busy moving across into the new hospital. The East End Life newspaper did an article on my story to which I am very proud !
