The Submillimeter Array (SMA) receives millimeter and submillimeter radiation, so named because its wavelength ranges from 0.3 to 1.7 millimeter, or 0.01 to 0.07 inches. The main source of millimeter and submillimeter radiation is cold interstellar material. It consists of gas, dust and small rock-like bodies. This material is also the substance out of which stars and planets are formed. [Source: Wikipedia]

Let me introduce "icky", the sweetest and friendliest cat I have ever had the pleasure to pet. The fur?! Oh My the fur is velvety soft!
The Devon Rex, the Pixie of the Cat Fancy, sports oversized ears on an elfin face with large impish eyes. This adorable combination only hints at the mad-cap personality within – a cross, some say, between a cat, a dog, a monkey, and Dennis the Menace. They are a fun and fun-loving breed with a relaxed and social attitude rarely associated with cats. Delightfully silly in both appearance and antics, Devons are interested in everything and everyone around them. Their playful nature means Devons easily learn tricks and are always up for a game of hide-and-seek, tag, or fetch.
This unique breed possesses intensely loyal, human-loving, dog-like qualities. A person must be prepared to be owned by a Devon. A Devon will eat with you, sleep with you, and perch cozily on your shoulder while you are on the computer or reading. They will follow you around the house, sit at your feet, or jump on your lap the minute you sit down. A Devon will accompany you on your household chores, happily trilling, cooing, and chirping as they look for ways to help. Children and Devons are naturals as best friends and tireless playmates.
They may look like they have just arrived on Earth on an alien spaceship, but they are a natural mutation. They originated in Devonshire, England, in the late 1950s when a Miss Cox found that a stray cat in her care had given birth to a rather odd looking curly-haired kitten. Delighted with the kitten’s elfin features and wavy curls, she named him Kirlee – the founding father of this unique breed.
Mother Nature created the feline oddity, this lithe and winsome pixie cat. Man had no hand in the mutation, but man did step in and make it possible for the mutation to survive and flourish, providing cat lovers around the globe the opportunity to meet, love, and be loved by one of nature’s true miracles – the Devon Rex cat. Colors include a wide array of solid, shaded, smoke, tabby, bi-color, and pointed patterns.

To enable the BBC Micro to be so fast, a large amount of the computer circuity was bundled up in to two Uncommitted Logic Arrays (ULAs).
Being at the east end of the runway at Liverpool gives you a beautiful view of some of the runway furniture that you don't often get to see.
Obviously a bit of common sense is needed (unlike the tosser who was there this afternoon who decided to drive up and park under the flight path just as a jet was landing - I moved him on before the Police did) but you can get some good shots of interesting things.
This looks like a directional antenna so based on its position I'm guessing that it forms a part of the ILS array. Can anyone confirm or deny?
Outside the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Spain, day 13 of our Cosmos tour, October 12, 2012.
Instantly hailed as the most important structure of its time, Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has celebrated more than a decade of extraordinary success. With over a hundred exhibitions and more than ten million visitors to its credit, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has changed the way people think about museums, and it continues to challenge assumptions about the connections between art, architecture, and collecting.

The Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy (CARMA) was an astronomical instrument comprising 23 radio telescopes. These telescopes formed an astronomical interferometer where all the signals are combined in a purpose-built computer (a correlator) to produce high-resolution astronomical images. The telescopes ceased operation in April 2015 and were relocated to the Owens Valley Radio Observatory for storage.
Whenever we make the long, tedious, mind numbing drive between Texas and Idaho we always look for something to break the monotony. We read about Kelly Ghost Town and decided to check it out. It's about 4 miles off the main road in Magdalena. We arrived in late afternoon and didn't have a lot of time there. There really isn't a lot to see other than some mine related building. We walked around for a bit but it was bone chilling cold with the wind so we piled into the car and headed west. We passed something called the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) - that was cool. It's a bunch of large radio telescopes out in the middle of nowhere. I think they have a visitors center but it was closed by the time we passed by. Next up was a windmill collection and Pie Town (seriously). It was a pleasant drive but I'm not sure we would recommend it as a vacation destination.
I took these photos in late November 2017.
