Members of the South Carolina National Guard (SCNG), families, and friends, attend the 75th Anniversary Army Aviation Heritage Celebration event hosted by the 59th Aviation Troop Command (ATC), South Carolina Army National Guard (SCARNG), at the SCNG Army Aviation Support Facility (Location 1), McEntire Joint National Guard Base (JNGB), South Carolina, Nov. 4, 2022. The event celebrated 75 years of Army Aviation in South Carolina, a program originated by an initiative of Lt. Col. Frank D. Pinckney in September 1947, when the SCARNG was preparing to receive its newly assigned support aircraft. Pickney chose the Congaree Air Base (today’s McEntire JNGB) as the support facility for its SCNG Army airplanes. That legacy continues today through the 59th ATC and its subordinated commands across South Carolina.

You will never be bored.
You will always be frustrated.
So much to do and so little time.
You will step into people’s lives
And you will make a difference.
Some will bless you.
Some will curse you.
You will see people at their worst –
And at their best.
You will never cease to be amazed
At people’s capacity for
Love, courage, and endurance.
You will see life begin – - and end.
You will experience resounding triumphs
And devastating failures.
You will cry a lot.
You will laugh a lot.
You will know what it is to be human
And to be humane.
