In the frame is a MH-47G from the US Army 4th Battalion, 160th SOAR/Special Operations Aviation Regiment. This helicopter - 04-03745 - is a rebuild from CH-47D 82-23773 which is a rebuild of CH-47C 68-16002. Yes, quite the history in this helicopter that visited Historic Flight Foundation/HFF for HFF's D-Day + 70 commemeration (my photoset).

According to the Boeing factsheet, "The MH-47G’s fully integrated digital Common Avionics architecture System (CAAS) permits global communications and navigation. CAAS is among the most advanced U.S. Army helicopter systems. CAAS includes integrated forward-looking infrared (FLIR) and multimode radar for nap-of-the-earth and low-level flight operations in conditions of extremely poor visibility and adverse weather. Today’s MH-47Gs contain a fully integrated digital cockpit management system, long-range fuel tanks and advanced cargo-handling capabilities that complement the aircraft’s mission performance and handling characteristics."

Special thanks to Historic Flight Foundation & 4th Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) for this unique opportunity to photograph SOAR's helicopters. Much appreciate - especially to you Todd & Vanessa when you could have turned me away!

I decided to go black & white HDR since the helicopter was black, the tarmac was asphalt and wanted to make a gritty image. Hope you fav.

A CH-47 Flight Engineer texts "somebody" before engine crank. Within moments, 5 CH-47Ds of B/2-135 GSAB, Coloado Army National Guard, left their home station of Buckley AFB, CO, and headed to Ft. Hood TX, and then on to Afghanistan for a year long deployment. The Mile High Hookers will marry up with the rest of the company out of Grand Island NE. before heading to "the Suck".

Hope you like a MH-47G Special Ops Chinook against the blue sky. I decided on this one to hike the shutter speed to 1/180 so the detail of the MH-47G could be shown easily. You are still getting some rotating rotors, but still can easily see for instance the wrench and the pitot probe sticking out under the refueling boom.

Very grateful the 160th SOAR, 4th Battalion was kind enough to follow HFF's Visitor Services Director (and unofficial Prime Minister of Paine Field) Vanessa Dunn's parting request to "make some noise". Happy I hiked by the world-famous Paine Field Windsock on Bernie Webber Drive as this black helicopter lifted off and the crew was told I'd be there.

Please mare sure to visit the 2015 Paine Field Aviation Day photoset for more photos from arrival day & the actual event. Many thanks.

The National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) is the patient movement arm of the U.S. Government. When an area is hit with a natural or technological disaster that causes a mass casualty event, NDMS is activated to assist with patient evacuation. When activated, USAF cargo aircraft are employed to evacuate casualties from the affected area to a non-affected area. Then both civilian and military helicopters are utilized to transport those patients to the entire region's hospitals.

Figured I'd finally get around to posting this beaut of a US Army MH-47G Chinook of the US Army Special Operations Aviation Regiment/SOAR coming in to land at Paine Field (KPAE) for Historic Flight Foundation's (HFF's) D-Day + 70 commemoration - link to my photoset. Really, deeply appreciate all the US Army does to defend freedom - and of course the fly-in to HFF's event was much appreciated.
