Out of the Archives: Building the majority of the Catskill Aqueduct did not require blasting through bedrock or running steel pipes up and down hillsides. Cut-and-cover conduit like this was built in trenches over 55 of the total 92 miles. The section shown here under construction winds its way efficiently along the terrain through Orange County.
