ca 1973- On the sidelines at a Pirates football game, part of the brain-trust that ran up Seton Hall's impressive record in the 70s. At far left, Tom Reynolds (Fathers Club President and heavily involved in all things Prep before his regrettable sudden death by accident in 1974), Asst. Coach Vinnie Aulisi, Head Coach Tony Verducci and Asst. Sam Fortunato. During that era, in the days long before NFL RedZone, many home football games were played on Sundays.

Commissioned to work with SALT Research collections, artist Refik Anadol employed machine learning algorithms to search and sort relations among 1,700,000 documents. Interactions of the multidimensional data found in the archives are, in turn, translated into an immersive media installation. Archive Dreaming, which is presented as part of The Uses of Art: Final Exhibition with the support of the Culture Programme of the European Union, is user-driven; however, when idle, the installation "dreams" of unexpected correlations among documents. The resulting high-dimensional data and interactions are translated into an architectural immersive space.

Shortly after receiving the commission, Anadol was a resident artist for Google's Artists and Machine Intelligence Program where he closely collaborated with Mike Tyka and explored cutting-edge developments in the field of machine intelligence in an environment that brings together artists and engineers. Developed during this residency, his intervention Archive Dreaming transforms the gallery space on floor -1 at SALT Galata into an all-encompassing environment that intertwines history with the contemporary, and challenges immutable concepts of the archive, while destabilizing archive-related questions with machine learning algorithms.

In this project, a temporary immersive architectural space is created as a canvas with light and data applied as materials. This radical effort to deconstruct the framework of an illusory space will transgress the normal boundaries of the viewing experience of a library and the conventional flat cinema projection screen, into a three dimensional kinetic and architectonic space of an archive visualized with machine learning algorithms. By training a neural network with images of 1,700,000 documents at SALT Research the main idea is to create an immersive installation with architectural intelligence to reframe memory, history and culture in museum perception for 21st century through the lens of machine intelligence.

SALT is grateful to Google's Artists and Machine Intelligence program, and Doğuş Technology, ŠKODA, Volkswagen Doğuş Finansman for supporting Archive Dreaming.

Have not even begun exploring restoration, just the first high res slide scan.

Ravi Shankar, Indian Musician and Composer, played his sitar at the Wisconsin Union Theater in 1964, 1978, and 1984. More than twenty years later his daughter, Anoushka Shankar, joined the 2007-2008 season as part of the World Stage Series.

This photo was signed by Mr. Shankar in 1964.

I moved my study into the attic eventually. 40 degrees in the summer, and 0 in the winter. Loved that place.

Today we passed an important milestone in our transition to our new home. We had a quick and smooth installation of the elfa shelving system in the room that will be our photo archive/computer room/office. The two young men who did the install were brilliant. This is going to be so much better than the patch work of metal shelving we had in our Baltimore house. I am really eager to get the print boxes unpacked and organized.

I am sure it will not* be as impressive as Swapatorium2's wonderful photo room but I think it will work very well for us.

* I just realized that I left out the NOT in that statement when I first typed it. I think it will be no way as impressive as that wonderful room of Swapatorium2's!

Seeing that skidding car sign stuck to the side of the Bailey Bridge always brings back vivid memories of going over this bridge in the car when I was very young.

Unfortunately those days are long over since the A93 now bypasses Craighall gorge but it was still a good experience to come and explore this abandoned piece of road on foot back in June.

Until I explored the old A93 by foot I always thought this bridge crossed a steep drop into the gorge but when I got there I noticed that the ground wasn't very far below this bridge and the old retaining wall for the road still exists just to the right of this photo.

When I got home I looked up some information on the Craighall gorge section of the A93 to find out that the road had subsided meaning that the A93 had to be closed for two weeks whilst the Bailey Bridge was put in place.

The Bailey bridge was only meant to be a temporary solution back in 1985 but it took till 2008 to open a new road which runs about 1/4 of a mile to the west of this alignment. As such, all traffic heading north out of Blairgowrie had to deal with traffic lights for 23 years - though to be honest you never really had to wait that long.

The new road doesn't enter the Craighall gorge and instead runs through fields. The ascent on the new road after Blairgowrie is fairly steep due to the geography of the area.

I hope to come back here again in the new year when there is less foliage around. Hopefully someone found this interesting.
