The Arab courtyard was not intended for rest and walking, but was conceived as a light well. Its walls are decorated with majolica tiles with oriental ornaments. The wall fountain "Maria" complements this design. The decoration of the courtyard walls was made by the Geldwein-Vaulin art and ceramic company (Kikerino station, St. Petersburg).
Prada Tokyo Aoyama, designed by renowned Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron, is a captivating architectural landmark nestled in Tokyo's upscale Aoyama district. Completed in 2003, this unique building redefined the concept of a luxury retail space with its bold, diamond-patterned glass façade and innovative structure. The six-story building, crafted with a grid of glass panes, gives it an almost ethereal presence, allowing light to interact with its surfaces in mesmerizing ways. Each glass pane, some concave and others convex, adds a sense of movement and depth, changing the building’s appearance throughout the day and offering a multi-dimensional experience both inside and out.
This architectural marvel is not just about aesthetics; it reflects Prada's brand philosophy of combining art, culture, and fashion. The transparency of the structure allows pedestrians glimpses into the luxurious world of Prada, inviting curiosity and engagement without revealing everything at once. Inside, the layout is equally as striking, with open, flowing spaces designed to enhance the shopping experience, making visitors feel as if they’re navigating through an art installation.
Situated in Omotesando, an area famous for its fashion-forward boutiques and modern architecture, Prada Tokyo Aoyama stands as an icon of avant-garde design. For architecture enthusiasts, it’s a must-visit, showcasing how luxury retail can merge seamlessly with cutting-edge architectural innovation. Beyond shopping, the building serves as a cultural destination, offering visitors a glimpse into Tokyo’s blend of tradition and contemporary sophistication. Herzog & de Meuron’s creation has not only set a benchmark in retail design but also redefined how architecture can embody a brand’s identity.
Once the city’s central post office, this grand Romanesque Revival structure now serves as the Waldorf Astoria Washington D.C.—a luxury hotel steeped in architectural heritage. Built between 1892 and 1899 and located at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, the building was originally the Old Post Office Pavilion and is one of the few late 19th-century federal buildings to survive in the area.
This photograph captures the front portico entrance with its massive central arch, heavy rusticated stone, and richly detailed carvings—all hallmarks of the Richardsonian Romanesque style. Architect Willoughby J. Edbrooke designed the structure while serving as Supervising Architect of the U.S. Treasury, favoring rounded arches, fortress-like massing, and medieval references that evoke strength and permanence.
Above the main entry is a contemporary gold Waldorf Astoria sign, while the flanking arched windows now house the Peacock Alley restaurant and the Waldorf Astoria Spa. These adaptations highlight a thoughtful preservation approach: retaining the building’s historic fabric while accommodating modern luxury.
After narrowly avoiding demolition in the mid-20th century, the Old Post Office was repurposed in the 1980s and underwent another major transformation in the 2010s when it was converted into a hotel. Through each chapter, its architectural integrity has been largely maintained, making it a rare and prominent example of Romanesque civic design in Washington, D.C.

Bacharach, Germany - May 19, 2015: Architecture, view of the old fortified town in the Rhine Valley that is UNESCO World Heritage Site, Germany.
Picturesque Houseboats of Fishermans Wharf, ten minutes’ walk from the Inner Harbour of Victoria, B.C.
One of the most particular features of the church is the lack of a main entrance and of the façade, which used to form a single wall with the palace next to it. In fact, there are only side entries. At the base of the XIV Century prothyra columns by Giovanni da Campione, four red and white marble lions guard the Northern and the Southern entrances, unperturbed and majestic. On the northern side, the so-called Red Lions Portal overlooks the Piazza Duomo; the opposite side is located in Piazza Rosate, featuring the White Lions Portal. The type of marble gives the different colour: the Veronese one for the red lions and the Candoglia marble (from the Ossola Valley, Piedmont) for the white ones.
Otto Wagner, the pioneering architect of Vienna's Art Nouveau era, was the designer in charge of the construction of Stadtbahn, a rail service running underground in some sections, as an elevated system in others, around 1900.
The Art Nouveau pavilions were erected in 1898 in the course of Stadtbahn construction. Otto Wagner planned two portal buildings of identical design. Today, in summer, the Wien Museum uses the west pavilion and the other one is a café.

This photo captures the quintessential charm of Lisbon’s narrow cobblestone streets, lined with pastel-colored facades and wrought-iron balconies. Small restaurants and cafés spill out onto the pavement, their awnings and outdoor tables inviting locals and visitors alike to linger over a meal. The mix of whitewashed walls, soft pinks, and muted greens reflects Lisbon’s signature color palette, while overhead wires hint at the tram routes that snake through the city. This intimate streetscape embodies the everyday life of Portugal’s capital—where historic architecture, culinary culture, and community come together in a vibrant, human-scaled urban fabric that has endured for generations.

The Chilehaus (Chile House) is a ten-story office building in Hamburg, Germany. It is located in the Kontorhausviertel. It is an exceptional example of the 1920s Brick Expressionism style of architecture.
This building was designed by the architect Fritz Höger and built between 1922 and 1924. It was commissioned by the shipping magnate Henry B. Sloman, who made his fortune trading saltpeter from Chile, hence the name Chile House..[wikipedia]
A symphony of elegance unfolds in the grand lobby of the Waldorf Astoria Washington DC, formerly the Trump International Hotel, housed in the Old Post Office Pavilion on Pennsylvania Avenue. This stunning photo captures the opulent interior during cherry blossom season, showcasing a breathtaking pink floral installation beneath soaring steel beams and shimmering crystal chandeliers.
Originally completed in 1899, the Old Post Office Pavilion is one of Washington’s most iconic Romanesque Revival buildings. The lobby’s blend of historic architecture and modern luxury creates a timeless visual experience. The richly veined polished marble floors reflect every chandelier sparkle and soft petal hue, amplifying the space’s elegance and symmetry.
At the center of the photo stands a striking cherry blossom display, perfectly timed to align with Washington DC’s National Cherry Blossom Festival. The tree is flanked by plush velvet lounge seating and harp music, evoking an atmosphere of serene refinement. Guests gather in quiet conversation beneath the atrium’s 200-foot-high ceiling, where steel trusses crisscross like a cathedral of ironwork.
Formerly the city’s post office, the building was transformed into a hotel in the 2010s and reopened under the Waldorf Astoria brand in 2022. The renovation preserved key historic features—including the iconic Clock Tower, which remains one of the highest public viewpoints in the city—while introducing state-of-the-art luxury hospitality.
The image captures the tension and harmony between Victorian grandeur and contemporary splendor. It’s a place where you can sip champagne while listening to a harpist beneath glass chandeliers, all within the walls of a former government building. During the spring, seasonal installations like the pink cherry blossom tree connect this historic space to one of Washington’s most beloved traditions.
Photographers, architecture enthusiasts, and luxury travelers alike will appreciate the play of texture, reflection, and symmetry in this space. The atrium’s structure provides strong visual lines that frame the floral centerpiece like a painting, while the floor’s high-gloss polish allows the scene to shimmer from above and below.
Whether you’re in town for politics, history, or indulgence, the Waldorf Astoria Washington DC offers a uniquely opulent stay in one of the most storied buildings in the capital. This image highlights not just a hotel lobby—but a place where American history, design heritage, and seasonal beauty converge.

The Palace of Prince Alexander Nikolaevich Golitsyn and Countess Sofia Panina (now the Yasnaya Polyana Sanatorium) with the museum room of L. N. Tolstoy, who lived here in 1901-1902. Here he was treated and worked a lot: he wrote the story "Hadji Murad" and a number of articles. Chekhov, Kuprin, Gorky, Chaliapin visited Tolstoy in Gaspra.
In front of the main facade there is a bust of Lev Nikolaevich by the Yalta sculptor D. Zhuravlev.
The building of the sanatorium "Yasnaya Polyana", on which a memorial plaque in memory of the stay of Lev Tolstoy is reinforced, is a palace built of gray stone with lancet windows and massive octagonal side towers topped with battlements and covered with ivy; erected in the 1830s by the creator of the Vorontsov Palace in Alupka, architect Gunt for Prince A. N.. Golitsyn (1773-1844).
Н. Голицына (1773—1844).

The "Palais de la Méditerranée" (now Hyatt Regency hotel) is a nine-floor luxury casino hotel complex located on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France. It was built in 1929 by architects Charles and Marcel Dalmas, and partly rebuilt and modernized in 1990, a year after two of its facades were classified as historical monuments. It contains 187 rooms and twelve suites, and is owned by Constellation Hotels Holding.

Step into the vibrant pulse of Tokyo with this street-level view of Shibuya’s hidden gem: the narrow alleyway connecting Center Gai to Dogenzaka. While just steps away from the iconic Shibuya Crossing, this pocket of the city offers a totally different vibe—less global landmark, more everyday Tokyo. Locals and in-the-know travelers flock here for its irresistible mix of modern architecture, layered signage, and dense urban energy.
In this photo, you’ll notice the soft curves of the QFRONT annex building on the right, now home to Darts UP and FamilyMart, with its rounded corner mimicking 1980s Japanese postmodernism. On the left, the reflective curtain wall façade of the BEAM shopping complex offers a more contemporary contrast—sleek glass lines echoing Tokyo’s vertical ambitions. Above it all, the angular blue-and-cream tower rising in the distance belongs to the Shibuya Stream Excel Hotel Tokyu, completed in 2018 as part of the ongoing Shibuya redevelopment project. This juxtaposition of new development and tightly packed low-rise storefronts speaks to Tokyo’s layering of history with hypermodernity.
A closer look reveals colorful izakaya signs, multi-floor restaurants, karaoke dens, and niche bars tucked into almost every vertical inch of available space. This is Tokyo urbanism at its finest: high-density, pedestrian-first, and endlessly photogenic. The rain-slicked street adds atmosphere, while the steady foot traffic tells a story of locals shopping, eating, and living their everyday lives beneath the buzz of neon and LED.
Whether you’re here for the architecture, the street photography, or the hidden gems between the signs, this image captures a quintessential Tokyo experience that most tourists miss.
