The Philae Temple was reconstructed on an island in the Nile River. It was originally situated in a different location, but after the Egyptian government decided to go ahead with the construction of the Aswan High Dam, the temple was flooded. Egyptians worked with several European nations' volunteers to rebuild the temple on this island brick by brick.
The enormous and imposing gatehouse still impresses. The outer curtain wall is still evident. The wooden stairs / bridge would have been a drawbridge, and there were two more small towers along the way to make life extra-painful for invaders.

Built by Germans in the early 1900's, this Rayon factory did a great business. In WW2 it was confiscated and became the American Rayon Co, though "Bemberg" remained built into the main smokestack. There is a "newer" blonde building with all the trademarks of fascist/deco style popular in Germany at the time.
