This Commercial Style bank building at 123 N. Main St. was constructed in 1908 and features the large windows and prominent vertical beams, a large metal cornice (that once stretched down the side elevation as well), and a historicist Romanesque ground floor. These elements show a modest small-town example of Chicago Commercial architecture of the early twentieth century, as architects experimented with taller buildings, steel construction, and larger windows.
Unfortunately this chapel was closed so I didn't get to see the inside. This is the second Chapel of St Cornelius the Centurion. It was designed by Charles C. Haight in 1905. The funds for the chapel were provided by Trinity Church in downtown Manhattan after the original 1847 chapel was falling apart.
The northern half of Governor's Island is a National Register historic district #85002435. It's also a National Historic Landmark. The National Park Service runs Castle Williams and Fort Jay as a National Monument. The rest of Governor's Island is administered by the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation. The island is required by law to have no housing (which is a shame - I think the Presidio model works very well).
The island is open to visitors only on the weekends from spring through fall. If you're ever in New York City, I would highly recommend taking the free ferry over to the island and explore. You can even rent a bike on the island.

The Church of the Annunciation of the Holy Virgin is the Orthodox cathedral of Kharkov city. First church with this name, with wooden belfry was built in 1655. In 1789 the erecting of new stone church began. It has been built in early classicism style. As flock multiplied with a growth of city in 1888 it was considered to erect a new much greater church aside of active one. It was intended to serve as main church of Kharkov city, i.e. as cathedral. Cathedral's project has been designed by architect of Kharkov Technology Institute prof Michail I. Lovtsoff. It was styled in quazi-Bizantyne style which was actually in a great vogue in Russia. The huge 300-feet belfry has been designed in quazi-Gothic style. The total price of building exceeded 400000 golden roubles. 7 mlns of bricks have been expended. The church was consecrated in 1901. Now it is the centre of Kharkov Diocese.
Modern architects tells that this kind of style is "eclecticizm". I know that "eclecticizm" is a sort of obscenity in architecture, it meens something ugly and awful. But I'm definitely not a specialist ina branch of arcitecture. And for my non-educated point of view this cathedral is looking nice and slim, even despite it's monstruos dimensions
