This has a cool story. I moved it, and several other pieces, from our old yard. A neighbor there told me that they came from the old building of the first high school in town when it was demolished/remodeled. I think this was part of a frieze. They are my most treasured pieces of yard art. They are heavy concrete - and some even have the metal reinforcing parts still on the back. I'm so glad someone thought to salvage these -

1009 Overbrook Road
Richmond, Virginia
37º33'57" N, 77º26'40" W
After ten years here, Paul's Place is moving their operation to another location, address not yet announced.
In 1920 Overbrook Road was called Stuart Road, but there is no listing in that year's city directory for 1009. By 1930 the name was changed to Overbrook, but neither 1930 nor 1940 directories list a building at 1009. In the 1950 city directory Fairfax Laundry & Dry Cleaners is here.
UPDATE: Change of plans: this location will not close after all.

Mirrors made from 1910-ish windows found in the Toronto Junction, 2006. We stripped the old windows of layers of paint, sanded and stained them, and then reglazed them using salvaged mirror glass. They measure about 48" by 24".
We've been working with architectural salvage for several years, and have made about 15 salvaged mirrors, some given as gifts to friends and others kept for ourselves. Thanks to Peter's indulgence I also collect cast-iron pieces, including a large circular register grate used as a table centrepiece and trivet and art deco two fireplace inserts awaiting transformation.

With the demolition of the SuperValu grocery store in Penticton, scores of these shear plates were exposed. They were used with lag bolts to join the arched laminated beams that formed the unique curved roof. They are 4" (10 cm) in diameter. This one was photographed on display as part of the exhibit SuperValu Redux.
