Im 16. Jahrhundert entstand dieses bedeutendste Renaissancebauwerk Norddeutschlands zunächst als Sitz des Herzogs Ulrichs, der nach einem Brand der bestehenden alten Burg seine neue Residenz dem Repräsentationsbedürfnis seiner Zeit anpassen ließ.
Die Ostseite des nach Entwürfen des Baumeisters Franz Parr errichteten Schlosses ist offen. Ein die Lücke nahezu ausfüllender Flügel wurde am Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts abgebrochen. Nachdem 1695 die Linie Mecklenburg-Güstrow erlosch, war Güstrow nur noch Nebenresidenz der Herzöge von Mecklenburg. Zwei Jahre war das Schloss Schauplatz der glanzvollen Wallensteinschen Hofhaltung, aber auch Ausgangspunkt großzügiger und kluger Reformgedanken. In den folgenden Jahrhunderten erlebte das Schloss eine wechselvolle Geschichte bis 1972 nach umfangreichen Restaurierungsarbeiten die ersten Räume als Schlossmuseum genutzt werden konnten. Das Schloss bietet seinen Besuchern neben den historischen Repräsentationsräumen in einer ständigen Ausstellung Kunst und Kunsthandwerk von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart sowie eine Jagdwaffen Ausstellung aus der Sammlung der mecklenburgischen Herzöge.
Thomas Schütte’s 'Model for a Hotel 2007' is on show at Trafalgar Square. It lends itself perfectly to those of us who like to dissect a shot - every angle reveals a new structure. It's quite amazing. You can see the 'real thing' below - although this is 'real' too apart from having been cropped. The white quarter is the sky - I chose to shoot into the sun.

Thomas Schütte’s 'Model for a Hotel 2007', which sits atop the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square, lends itself perfectly to those of us who like to dissect a shot - every angle reveals a new structure. It's quite amazing.
An architectural model of a 21 storey building, constructed in specially engineered red, yellow and blue glass, it is over 8 tonnes in weight and about 5 metres tall.

Herrenhaus (Schloss) Prebberede
Prebberede befindet sich östlich des Ortes Laage. Das Gut war seit 1395 bis zur Enteignung 1945 im Besitz der Familie von Bassewitz.
In den Jahren 1772 bis 1778 ließ Graf Carl Friedrich von Bassewitz das imposante Herrenhaus durch den Güstrower Baumeister Sidon errichten. Zu dieser Zeit entstanden auch die beiden Marstallgebäude, in denen heute Wohnungen eingerichtet sind. Nach 1945 wurde das seit 1951 unter Denkmalschutz stehende Herrenhaus durch die Gemeinde und für Wohnzwecke genutzt und in den Jahren 1959 / 60 und 1984 restauriert. Nach 1990 erwarb Familie Leyh das Herrenhaus mit den Nebengebäuden und dem Park und ließ umfangreiche Sanierungsarbeiten vornehmen. Im Inneren des Gebäudes, in dem sich heute Ferienwohnungen befinden, ist neben der Eingangshalle mit dem bemerkenswerten Marmorfußboden, dem schönen Geländer der Treppe im asymmetrisch angelegten Treppenhaus, der Festsaal im Obergeschoss mit seinen reichhaltigen Stuckornamenten im Rokokodekor sehenswert. Hier finden regelmäßig Konzerte statt.
Das Herrenhaus ist von einem gepflegten Park umgeben, der um 1800 auf einer Fläche von 9 ha angelegt wude. Die kleine neogotische Kapelle im Park entstand 1861 / 62, sie ziert das Wappen der Familie von Bassewitz.

An empty plinth sat in one corner of Trafalgar Square for over 150 years until 1999 when the London Mayor decided to use it to display contemporary art works. This is an abstract of the current occupant of the plinth - Thomas Schütte’s sculpture 'Model for a Hotel 2007'. It's an architectural model of a twenty-one storey building, constructed in specially engineered red, yellow and blue glass. It is over 8 tonnes in weight and about 5 metres tall.

Das Kalensche Tor ist eines der vier Tore der Wehranlage, welches die Stadt Malchin umgab. Es ist das besterhaltene Tor der Malchiner Stadtbefestigung. Der Bau ist ein reich gegliederter gotischer Backsteinbau aus dem 15. Jahrhundert mit Pultdach und teilweise glasierten Ziegeln. Es wurde als Doppeltor erbaut. Im Jahr 1837 begann der teilweise Abbruch. So wurde das Haupttor abgerissen, um eine Erhöhung der Durchfahrt zu erreichen. Bis ins 19. Jahrhundert wurde es als Gefängnis genutzt und bereits im Jahr 1900 restauriert. Heute ist das Kalensche Tor eines der bedeutenden Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt.
Den Namen dürfte das Tor vom Ort (Alt-)kalen bekommen haben, in dessen Richtung das Tor liegt. Eine andere Herleitung des Namens wäre von den Kalandsbrüdern, deren Kloster sich auf dem Mönchhof (Wedenhof) in der Nähe befand. Dies dürfte aber eher unwahrscheinlich sein.

I choose to stray dangerously close to non-art, where there is no exaltation of anything. But when you are so close to crossing the line into silliness, there must be something to pull the daydreamer back to serious art. Is there? Till that happens, I'm enjoying great freedom.
The governmental functional quality of Ian Fleming's office settings for M and for Bond in the 007 section are reinstituted and reinterpreted in this design. It is also given a sophisticated twist as a well-thought out offering by Q section, for a typical Asian salaryman's "lunch made by the loving wife" bento, made by his new "cover" wife, played by Akiko Wakabayashi, but with a fantasy Q flair, in miniature.
A modern Tokyo-style cladding encloses a smaller plain concrete two-level building. The top floor is M's office and Moneypenny's smaller work area. An outer staircase connects down to the ground floor Asian garage that houses a replica of the Aston Martin car which is made into a typical Japanese rail journey bento box with the following features excerpted from Ian Fleming's You Only Live Twice (film version) for a romantic lunch for James and Aki, just 'carnally' married.
The actual Aston Martin Bento will be the subject (deliciously) of a separate design upload, but for now my notes detail the following:
1. Condiment containers in 3 front/rear headlight areas, water is stored in the 4th rear headlight
2. Cigars and perforated towelette as a single day humidifier inside the front hood.
3. Ejector seat dry ice ring (add water from container of rear headlight (see above) (flash ring) contains a martini to shake before drinking.
4. Leica Red Dot cap disposable camera (please see my design no. 166 for another disposable camera design)
5. The license plates change as you lift out each food tray, like the changing signs of a busy Tokyo stand-up sushi bar.
6. The rear bulletproof shield holds warm towelettes and a match holder for lighting cigars.
7. The cuisine of the bento is kaiseki cuisine but with the uniform flavors of Japanese fast food but maybe with the addition of aphrodisiac foods of the 1950's, like oysters.
Part architectural model, part functional bento lunch tray, part tourist snapshot camera. This should be a perk to an otherwise boring day for a senior government man in the administrative 007 section.

Einen atemberaubenden Blick über die Insel Rügen kann man als Besucher des Jagdschlosses Granitz genießen, das sich auf dem 106 Meter hohen Tempelberg erhebt.
Im Jahr 1318 wurde Granitz erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Das Gut befand sich von 1472 bis 1945 im Besitz der Familie von Putbus. Im Jahr 1726 ließ Moritz Ulrich I. auf dem Tempelberg ein erstes kleines Jagdhaus errichten, das 1810 einen Aussichtsturm erhielt. Ab 1837 ließ Wilhelm Malte I. das Jagdschloss nach Plänen des Architekten Johann Gottfried Steinmeyer erbauen. Die Ausführung übernahm Karl Friedrich Schinkel, der auch 1844 den 38 Meter hohen Mittelturm einfügte. Eine gusseiserne Wendeltreppe führt an der Innenseite des Turmes zu einer Aussichtsplattform. Bereits ab 1900 war das Jagdschloss als Museum öffentlich zugänglich. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg ging der überwiegende Teil der Ausstattung verloren. Im Laufe der folgenden Jahre fanden im Schloss Veranstaltungen, Konzerte und Ausstellungen statt, auch eine Gaststätte wurde eingerichtet. Seit 1983 erfolgte eine Instandsetzung des gesamten Gebäudes, um es weiterhin als Museum zu nutzen. Öffentlich zugänglich sind neben dem Empfangszimmer das Speisezimmer, der Damensalon und der Marmorsaal.

Burg, Herrenhaus , Schloss Ulrichshusen
Abseits der großen Fernstraßen, im Herzen der Mecklenburgischen Schweiz, liegt am gleichnamigen See eine romantische Wasserburg - "Schloss Ulrichshusen".
Die Wasserburg, eine Anlage im Stil der Renaissance, entstand um 1560 im Auftrag Ulrich von Maltzahns. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte befand sich Ulrichshusen in unterschiedlichem Besitz. 1649 erhält der schwedische Oberst Dietrichson das Gut als Pfand, er reicht es an seinen Schwiegersohn J. Ehrenreich von Arnim weiter, der es anschließend an Baron Erlenkamp auf Vielist verpfändet. 1722 gelangt das Gut in den Besitz der Familie Maltzan auf Rothenmoor, 1821 wird es an die Grafen Hahn auf Basedow veräußert, Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts an den Verwalter Herrn Sellschop und schließlich 1929 an die Grafen Bassewitz-Schlitz. Nach deren Flucht 1945 wurde das Herrenhaus vorerst zu Wohnzwecken genutzt, stand später viele Jahre leer und verfiel. Nach dieser wechselvollen Geschichte kam es 1987 zu einem verheerenden Brand, bei dem die Burg bis auf die Grundmauern niederbrannte. Im Jahr 1993 erwarb die Familie von Maltzahn das Gut zurück. In den Folgejahren bauten sie die Burg mit viel Engagement wieder auf, auch der Park und die Wirtschaftsgebäude wurden restauriert. Die Feldsteinscheune des Gutes zählt zu den bedeutenden Festspielstandorten des Landes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Now we can see the window frames and stucco detail a little better. The window to the right over the door has an organic stain glass pattern to it. The double window below has a diamond criss cross in it. The doorknobs themselves are the heads of nails, the rust color is.. well.. rusty nail heads!
As an experiment I tried different patterns for each of the windows. I made wood masters, poured silicone rubber molds, then 2 part resin parts. It saves alot of time re-making components for other houses.

This Faux Empire State Building stands in front of a local pizza restaurant. It’s in an old strip center that’s getting revived with some new tenants. Shot with my iPhone SE and fixed up with Snapseed. I did some handwork to bring out King Kong and the biplane in the shadows up at the top

Stellshagen, 1230 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt, liegt wenige Kilometer südlich von Klütz. Ab dem 16. Jahrhundert besaß, neben anderen Gutsherren, die Familie von Plenen hier Güter.
Im Jahre 1819 verkaufte Hans Bernhard von Plessen das Gut an Gotthard Bernhard Vorbeck, 1833 erwarb Johann August Bosselmann das Gut, 1865 Karl Bernhard Rudolff, 1886 Graf Ludwig von Bothmer, 1894 Otto Graf von Bothmer und 1918 Hans von Plessen. Schließlich gelangte das Gut 1924 in den Besitz des Hamburger Architekten und Bauunternehmers Franz Bach. Er ließ auf einer Anhöhe gegenüber dem Eichsberg, auf dem sich ein bronzezeitliches Hügelgrab befindet, das Gutshaus, einen Klinkerbau im Stil der Neorenaissance, erbauen. Sein Sohn bewirtschaftete das Gut bis 1945. Im Zuge der Bodenreform erfolgte die Aufteilung des Gutes in Neubauernstellen, in das Gutshaus zogen Flüchtlinge ein und 1946 eine Parteischule der SED. Von 1954 bis 1994 wurde das Gutshaus als Sonderschule mit Internat genutzt.
Im Jahre 1994 erwarb die Enkelin von Franz Bach junior das denkmalgeschützte Gutshaus, ließ es rekonstruieren und 1996 wurde das Bio- und Gesundheitshotel eröffnet. Vom Hotel mit dem repräsentativen Eingang gelangt man über eine Treppe und Terrassen in den weiten, gepflegten Park.

Another take on Thomas Schütte’s 'Model for a Hotel 2007' that occupies the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square. This one has had the exposure tweaked a touch to create the appearance of the white stripes but otherwise this is what it looked light in the sporadic sun of yesterday.
The structure is an architectural model of a twenty-one storey building, constructed in specially engineered red, yellow and blue glass. It is over 8 tonnes in weight and about 5 metres tall.

Das Anklamer Tor, das frühere Steintor, ist eines der Tore der Wehranlage, welche die Stadt Friedland in Mecklenburg umgab.
Das Gebäude diente dem Schutz des nördlichen Zugangs der Stadt und war das erste von drei Stadttoren, das als Teil der mittelalterlichen Befestigungsanlage errichtet wurde. Die anderen beiden Tore sind das Neubrandenburger Tor (ehemals Burgtor) und das 1802 abgerissene Treptower Tor.
Der Bau ist ein fünfgeschossiger gotischer Backsteinbau aus dem frühen 14. Jahrhundert. Es ist ein quadratischer Torturm mit Staffelgiebel über einer spitzbogigen Durchfahrt und besitzt zwei runde Ecktürme mit Kegelhelmen auf beiden Seiten. Der Unterbau ist in Feldsteinen und der Oberbau in Backsteinen ausgeführt. Das Bauwerk war einst das Haupttor eines Torkastelles mit Vortor und Zingelmauern. Das Anklamer Tor wurde 1995 restauriert und zählt heute zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten von Friedland.

Inspiration for this piece came from the storybook cottages and shops of Carmel Ca. In particular, the concept for this unit came from a structure known as Hansel Cottage. Hundreds of handcrafted stones, bricks, and leaves were used to complete the structure. The stones, and wood grained front door have been meticulously faux painted. The roofline. exterior wall skirt, chimney pot, door, roof and bay roof all contain smooth arching lines which are central to the theme of this unit. Dimensions are 21" x 16" x 21". Bemerkenswert ist die Dorfkirche aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Die Wände sind aus Feldsteinen errichtet. Erbauer waren westfälische Siedler, die um 1225 Kavelstorf gründeten. Wegen des wuchtigen, quadratischen Turmes ist zu vermuten, dass die Kirche im Mittelalter den Dorfbewohnern als Wehrkirche diente.
1/2" Scale miniature, shot up on a hill against natural sky & distant landscape. White bounceboard for shadow fill, no flash. Almost 2' tall, wood construction, cast resin details, and polyester resin for stucco like textures. This was a piece for a private collector.
These scale models are also ideal for G-scale garden railroads, part of a European Village.
