This appetizer from The Matador Room was Gulf white shrimp in "agua diablo" with banana and almonds. It would never occur to me to pair banana with seafood, but the combination of crustacean, chili and fruit was oddly complementary.

My appetizer at Pig's Ear: Black pudding, served up with apples, greens, and nuts on a bed of mustard with some potatoes. This was one of the finest black puddings I've ever had, with a really good texture and nice barley notes.
