This PCB is part of the announcement tape deck. To the right are the record/playback head and erase head for this unit. The pink wire ending in a solder tag connects to an insulated part of one of the tape guides, it is thus grounded by a switching foil on the tape at the appropriate time. The PCB contains the switches used to record new announcements on this tape, a DIN socket for the microphone. FETs to select the opening or closing announcement (just below the switches), a bias/erase oscillator (the 2 metal-can transistors) and the microphone preamplifier

Making a mains lead for the machine. The mains connector is one of those little circular Bulgin ones. The original socket (cable mounting part) would have had a screw-on cap. This type, while still available, is no longer approved for mains use since the cap can be removed by hand exposing live terminals. So I used the more modern type, held together by screws, when I made the cable. The other end, of course, is a normal BS1363 mains plug fitted with a 3A fuse.

" Ahh, Yes green, a marvelous color it is, I wear it of course, so it must be wonderful!"

Inspiration for this photo came from Flyleaf's song "Cassie."
The song refers to Flyleaf's lead singer Lacey Mosley's view on the Columbine High School massacre concerning the incident where Cassie Bernall was asked by one of the gunmen whether she believed in God or not. Upon expressing her belief, she was shot to death. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassie_(song)

I'm always going someplace, even if it's not so far. We're so likely as locals to repeat the same haunts, like dogs sniffing out old tracks, but I've shaken that off by being somewhat obsessive with the map. Anywhere in my home valley that I haven't been, well, I've tried to go. Maybe that means a quiet clearing with a crumbling cabin or car wreck. Could be a stream I haven't followed end to end. Always wondering what and where; opposite shore of some lake, down in the dark hollow, what's hiding? I've already got the answer of who. It'll be me, and no one else most times. Solitude is something like a great romance when given space to grow. Longer I'm alone in lovely, lonesome places, the more their joys take hold.

On my way into the Hospital I was answering a call so I saw these alluring screen prints and I dared not engage with them. On my way out with less rush in my steps I wanted to leave as expediently as possible, so I felt guilty taking these pictures, fortunately the corridor was empty of people and full of, “Evening at Calanais,” by Frances Walker. The images here are quick mobile pictures that are not sharp, not colour balanced and not good representations of the originals that are provided through a scheme to bring art into NHS spaces, “Tonic Arts Programme creatively enhances environments and enriches experiences at NHS Lothian.” I have no links to the artist, or the programme. I will post links to them below, I may not have found the best links as I am not functioning at all well. Please do look at and support the artist and the programme. In total admiration I wanted to share the pulling and the plucking at my megalithic loving heart strings that felt rich resounding sounds from the stones as I looked at these pictures that gave me the inspiration to share the love of circled stones that here in screen prints sang songs in expressive pictures to me when I needed to hear such songs.
I am sharing these bad mobile phone images to show the powerful works of the artist with only the intention of showing the seeds that sprouted in me. The original works are superb, these are quickly taken phone pictures produced whilst moving along a corridor. The original screen prints that I saw are on show in Hospital and not easily seen by Calanais lovers and Megalith Minded People so I hope that sharing these pictures and the links to the artist Frances Walker and the Tonic Arts Programme is beneficial.
My visit to the hospital was shocking, heart breaking and healing. I have praise galore for those that work to keep us well. I hope that the seeds of love sprout around you and through you when you need them. I hope, hope, hope that you find the love that calls to you in health and in struggle and that there is love for us all to create, to find and to share.
Getting these images together has been a distant healing and soul soothing experience that has work me out for now. I will carry many things of this caring and sharing into my dreams. These images have helped me and I feel sure that there are others somewhere who will benefit from these as pictures from a hospital wall set there to help those who can see them and engage with them. These pictures have been in my mind and heart over a week now, I hope that they connect with you in ways that heal us all.

My kitchen phone and the answering machine. Now redundant as we have finally cut the cable from Bell. We had the phone line to support our DSL but we've now moved on beyond that so, goodbye Bell. I like to say our household now has the No Bell Prize.
So many romantic places for friends, lovers and couples on the Second Life grid... we intend on finding them all!
We started out at Abraminations looking for a couples' animator so we could hug at every greeting. We went to MMAC after to hit some Jazz Links and stayed for a bit.
Maximillion Kleene had a show over at a place called Bubbly Nightclub. This is now our favorite place. An elegant romantic nightclub with a grand ballroom. Upstairs is the dinner club where you and your favorite avi can enjoy a beautiful 3 course meal with wine and desserts.
After Max's show, we walked around the promenade, window shopping and found a lovely gondola ride. The pose ball proposal wasn't real... or was it?

Bernie Madoff method was perfect and he had a very simple answer or solution ...say nothing or just lie.
He conned all those that were blinded by greed for the money they were getting at the expense of others. They all were hyped to get something ("split-strike-conversion plan") that was just to good to be legit however, their greed done them in.

-------------------------- HOW I MADE ANALOGUE PHOTOGRAPHY REDSCALE ------------------------------
I putted this film backwards by loading it into other film magazine or canister in a dark room ( every time I develop at the lab, I ask them to keep it and give it back to me), and sticking it to the tip of the already empty canister, so when shooting, the light had to get through the colored part of the emusion and then get captured by the film, I really liked the effect, just not the expusure to all of them, since I must have metered +2 stops, not as if I had a "normal" film.
Here's a link of how to do it: fmphotocourses.blogspot.com/2007/07/how-to-make-redscale-...
I got really inspired with the concepts and tittles in this roll =)
Quiz #16 06/23/08 – 07/06/08
This week’s quiz is a rather poor shot in low light. Despite this we can see some very bold field marks, mainly yellow underparts and a dark black throat. With such bright colors in this combination certainly the New World warblers and perhaps a few orioles come to mind, but little else. In terms of the orioles only really Hooded and young male Orchard Orioles could fit this bird due to the extent of the black bib and the fact that we can see some yellow feathers on the side of the face telling us that this bird does not have a totally black head as in Baltimore, for example. We can eliminate both probably by tail length and shape alone but, more definitively by foot color, being grayish blue in the orioles and pink in the quiz bird.
In terms of black bibbed, yellow warblers we have a few somewhat unexpected group of birds. In terms of full species Hooded, Bachman’s and Townsend’s are really the only three. But we must also consider Hermit x Townsend hybrids as well as Blue-winged x Golden-winged Warbler hybrids, specifically Lawrence’s Warbler. MacGillivray’s Warbler was guessed but can be eliminated, along with Mourning, by the yellow on the sides of the face and the jet black throat instead of a mottled looking throat. Not a bad guess though, as many other plumage characteristics fit nicely. (See tail pattern discussion below as well.) Townsend’s can be eliminated by the lack of black streaks down the flanks and upper breast. However, one could argue that a combination of Hermit (who’s bib matches quite well) and Townsend’s (which has yellow underparts) could fit well. To eliminate others we have to look at the undertail coverts (which are in slight shadow) and tail pattern (which is somewhat out of focus.) Even though both Lawrence’s and Bachman’s are nearly spot-on in terms of other plumage considerations both have/had white or whitish undertail coverts and bold subterminal black bars on the rectrices (tail feathers) neither of which are present. Plus, like last quiz’s inclusion of Ivory-billed Woodpecker, I likely would not be writing this if I had taking a picture of a Bachman’s Warbler because I would have suffered a massive heart-attack from the shock. The same eliminating features are true for both Hermit and Townsend’s Warblers and subsequent hybrids. So we are left with Hooded Warbler and, indeed when we look at the tail pattern of this species with the broad nearly completely white outer rectrices, it’s a match.
I took this shot of a singing male HOODED WARBLER in Olmsted Township, Ohio (west of Cleveland) on a recent trip. I have included another, much better
shot of this guy. Low numbers of answers this time. Not a complaint just an observation. I always find this part of the quiz very interesting. Maybe this was a difficult one? Or maybe people are spending more time outside!
Answer Breakdown:
MacGillivray’s Warbler – 1
Hooded Warbler – 1
ANSWER:
HOODED WARBLER

Ascaso grinder, originally designed in 2001. Based on a design that Ascaso was doing for other companies going back to 1997 or earlier. Gearing "worm drive" is one of the oldest uses of gears in existence. Unlike Mazzer's three spring retention "micrometrical" selection design, I don't believe this design is patentable on its own.
This is also similar to the "stepless" grind selection system on the new LM prototype grinder, though the application on the LM is possibly different - on this Ascaso, it relies purely on friction to maintain its grind position. Improvements could be made so the gear is easy to turn, but when a person is not turning it, it gets "locked" into place.
The downside to this system is making big leaps in grind adjustment is quite time consuming, unless you disassemble the unit, unscrew the mounts for the worm gear arm, and manually spin the top burr holder. I'm sure this design flaw can be overcome - perhaps a two gear system - one for fine adjustments, one for coarser adjustments?
BTw - sorry for "cheating" a bit by doing the closeups in B&W.
