Day 532 - Day 167

“I will be the answer, at the end of the line. I will be there for you while you take the time…”

Answer: Sarah Mclachlan, Afterglow

This is a wonderful ballad by Sarah that really speaks to several different kinds of loving relationships. It’s really about the love and support from one to another… it’s really the basis of any relationship (in ideal worlds)… to be friends first before anything ever develops. That way when things to get deeper, the basis is one of friendship that will last- not something that can come and go superficially (money, cars, status, looks, etc.)

I have had wonderful people who were great to be with when things were going great in your life. As soon as life took a turn for the worse (which happens to us all), they disappeared. And conversely, I have had the friends who stick by my side and listen- who patiently wait for me to get through difficulties and support me indirectly.

I think society tells us that to be a great support, one has to literally be there for someone- taking them out for a friendly coffee chat or a nice lunch… to write a kind letter… but sometimes what people need is just to know someone’s there indirectly. I am that kind of person and I cherish those people who have been there for me and have understood that distant support is completely wonderful!

I loved Sarah’s live version of this song in her last tour- it always seemed special that she and her husband were singing this. Though others were singing, it always struck me as quit a bonding experience. And now I am so sad that they split. But I’m anxious to see the tour in August!!!

Getting the picture before the back light vanishes is harder than it looks!

Lyrics:

I will be the answer

At the end of the line

I will be there for you

While you take the time

In the burning of uncertainty

I will be your solid ground

I will hold the balance

If you can't look down

If it takes my whole life

I won't break, I won't bend

It will all be worth it

Worth it in the end

Cause I can only tell you what I know

That I need you in my life

When the stars have all gone out

You'll still be burning so bright

Cast me gently

Into morning

For the night has been unkind

Take me to a

Place so holy

That I can wash this from my mind

The memory of choosing not to fight

If it takes my whole life

I won't break, I won't bend

It will all be worth it

Worth it in the end

'Cause I can only tell you what I know

That I need you in my life

When the stars have all burned out

You'll still be burning so bright

Cast me gently

Into morning

For the night has been unkind
