Some decrepit industrial buildings have been cleared to make way for a new housing development. The way things are, people need places to live more than vacant workshops.
By midday my kitchen had reached this balmy temperature and the relative humidity had actually dropped to this number.
No bread-making today.

I'm thinking of laying an extension cable to Doha for some cheap power!
Vintage marmalade on toasted caraway wholemeal bread.
I'm stuck at home with a painful Achilles tendon. it's also raining. the temptation is to eat everything in the flat.
Toasted, the flavor of caraway comes out very well and goes well with the marmalade.
English farmhouse cheddar made from goat milk.
I bought this on special last week. It is absolutely astonishing!
Firm yet creamy. A subtle tang. Some sweetness.
That's lunch sorted.
Enjoy with some fruit and a plain digestive biscuit.
To be fair, I have no idea what this poster is about. What I can say is that I have definitely been experiencing the willies today. NO! - stop that sniggering: read the definition:

I have done some tweaking on this image using Darktable - apparently it's a bit like Lightroom, but I don't know what that is, anyway. But I need something that will process RAW images ...
And I have finally bitten the bullet and changed my ancient phone for something less antique (but still 'pre-loved'). My, how Android has evolved in nearly 8 years! I have no idea how this phone works, really. It's giving me the willies!
Banana Yoshimoto wrote this. Dealing with loss and love and other stuff, it was very readable and short enough for a single sitting.
Give it a go.
When the railway viaduct was built across the River Kent in 1856-57 it ceased onward shipping to Milnethorpe. Arnside became the unloading point, which transformed the sleepy fishing village into a bustling trade hub.

Today I made a wholemeal bread that for once didn't go mad and produced an acceptable loaf. I used 40% English wholemeal flour and 60% Canadian strong white flour.
A bee visits some common ragwort.
This plant is potentially lethal to horse and cattle but is the natural feeding plant for the cinnabar moth, whose numbers are down considerably in the last few years. This particular plant was also full of bees doing their pollination job. Humans should not touch this plant either as it can cause rashes and other irritations.
As I stood next to it in the sunshine, there was the most amazing smell of honey coming from it.
The scourge of pavement chewing gum.
In 1992, the sale of chewing gum in Singapore was banned during the government of PM Goh Chok Tong. This was in response to vandals placing gum over the door sensors on the MRT trains, which was inconvenient and very expensive to fix.
Contrary to popular belief, when the same idea was presented to PM Lee Kwan Yew, he felt a total ban was too drastic.
(Today one can buy 'dental health gum' but be careful where you dump it - or you could pick up a $2000 fine!

This is the entrance to the former Shrigley & Hunt stained glass works. Now the building is used as student accommodation.
I think the monogram has been executed with great style.
Shock, horror! Yes, I am a huge fan of Audrey Hepburn. Imagine my delight when I saw this shop window on my way to dinner tonight! Elegance comes to Lancaster.
Audrey Hepburn was a Belgium*-born actress who played a role in the Dutch Resistance during World War II.
She helped the Resistance by performing in secret ballet recitals to raise money for the resistance. She delivered coded messages, documents, and the underground newspaper by bicycle. She also worked as a doctor's assistant during the battle of Arnhem and cared for children who had been traumatized by the war.
*Corrected after some very helpful fact-checking by a kind Flickr-friend. Thanks, mate.

One of the best things about part time work is the lack of pressure.
More cabbages, and more apples. And a nice red capsicum for a splash of interest, with green lentils for a bit of protein.
What should i do with these green tomatoes? I'm thinking an interpretation of salsa verde. Not enough to bother making a chutney.
Lines. They are everywhere. If you step over them you get shouted at. But if you've lived behind them the stress is sometimes overwhelming.
Lines are everywhere today. It hasn't always been thus. We were supposed to know our place. Toe the line. This far and no further. Hard lines of you got it wrong. Write a 100 lines, i will hold the line. The thin red line. The medic puts in a line. The triage nurse puts you at the end of the line. The orderly sees your name in the lined ledger and goes over it with a line. No more lines.
Revolution is a sexual health education charity under contract to Lancashire Council. They provide education, advice, support, and testing.
STIs are here to stay, and it's always worth getting yourself tested, for your own sake, as much as for your partners.
At the back of the yard were some pretty thistles. Bees like them, which means I like them. Seeing this on a bigger screen is telling me to use my camera instead of my phone!
Below Lancaster Priory is a pretty field. It's left in a semi-wild state which encourages wildlife and is a nice place to walk, or sit and just 'be'.
I was sitting in front of the steering wheel and couldn't help but notice how overly textured it was. Almost like it was just regular vinyl and the someone added about 100 sharpness and clarity to it.
Rice as the staple, with steamed bok choy, sweet corn, beans, tuna. and pickled cabbage. Finished with a sprinkling of garam masala.
Easy, tasty, and nutritious.
Decant into jars. Cool in a water bath and refrigerate.
I got four of these 250 ml jars from one batch. That'll do.
Give away to your neighbors!

To be clear, this is a valve cover in the pavement. But when I saw the characters, 'ATM', I experienced a familiar shiver. I hate using those 'hole in the wall' bank machines.
The world's first Automated Teller Machine appeared in Enfiled, North London, in 1967 at a Barclays Bank branch. What has that to do with Lancaster? Banking and Quakers (where they still have a Meeting House).
Quakers back in the 18th century could not be in the 'professions' so many became bankers or merchants. Barclays Bank was founded by Freame and Gould (Quakers) and were later joined by Barclay (another Quaker).
