A nineteenth century bronze cast of Giambologna's famous statue of Mercury.
The caduceus has two snakes, which is different from the one associated with medicine, which has only one snake.
The New Zealand Fantail, or Piwakawaka. They have very distinctive movement when they flick their tails, which make you think of the stylised movements of the warrior who approaches manuhiri (visitors) to the marae as part of the challenge.
I found these lovely coasters in a local charity shop. Like me, far from home. We'll keep one-another company.
Lancaster received a royal charter to permit a market in 1193. There's been a market ever since. A place to exchange goods, money, and ideas.

Soft fruit but firm enough to hold its shape. Tick
Served with a healthy dollop of crème fraîche to bring out all the flavors. Tick
Well, it worked for me. Now to take some to my friend for afternoon tea 😁
William Lindow, a merchant, is buried here. He owned many businesses including plantations. And therefore slaves. Unconscionable today, i ask myself how it was thought to be OK by these church going people.
To be fair, I have no idea what this poster is about. What I can say is that I have definitely been experiencing the willies today. NO! - stop that sniggering: read the definition:

I have done some tweaking on this image using Darktable - apparently it's a bit like Lightroom, but I don't know what that is, anyway. But I need something that will process RAW images ...
And I have finally bitten the bullet and changed my ancient phone for something less antique (but still 'pre-loved'). My, how Android has evolved in nearly 8 years! I have no idea how this phone works, really. It's giving me the willies!
This is a mounting block on the side of a house in Garstang. Note the variety of sizes, to accommodate riders and horses of different sizes: small, medium, and large.
Small, medium, and large sizes in clothes first came about during the American Civil Ware, when uniform manufacturers found it easier to produce uniforms in only three sizes, and have regimental tailors do the adjustments once the uniform had been issued. Junior ranks were expected to do their own sewing for simple things.
My brief is to make food with supermarket ingredients. Today I made soup with canned chicken, sweet corn, and mushrooms.
This serving works out to be 95p including fuel, for 40 serves.
Spring onions (on special) added some color.
Added a cornflour slurry to thicken. Potato would do the same job.
White onions and garlic to frame the flavors.
Makes a change from all veggies and was received well.
Today was chilly so I made the guys some tomato soup. I have a feeling the basil might have been a bit confusing but I only had one bowl returned.
My soup wasn't as red as the one in my recipe book. No idea why. Anyone have any ideas to share?
At least my bread crusted up nicely 😁
Today I made a wholemeal bread that for once didn't go mad and produced an acceptable loaf. I used 40% English wholemeal flour and 60% Canadian strong white flour.
Having de stalked and simmered for 30 minutes to neutralize the natural cyanide in the berries, i added lemon and sugar to make this luscious syrup. It has health benefits but probably not when mixed with vodka!

I'm stuck at home with a painful Achilles tendon. it's also raining. the temptation is to eat everything in the flat.
Toasted, the flavor of caraway comes out very well and goes well with the marmalade.
Here is a kind of grail - a working phone box. It's hideous, but there's a dial tone and it doesn't smell like the inside of a trawlerman's waders.
While most people seem to have a smartphone these days, others either can't afford one or choose not to have one. For them, the public callbox is essential.
This is a KX model phonebox which first appeared in 1985. For trademark reasons, the next model will likely be called the KZ.

One of the best things about part time work is the lack of pressure.
Given a cans of cooked garden peas - i didn't know that was a thing - and asked to make lunch, what to do? Blitz the peas with some chili flakes and oil and dust with cayenne pepper. Serve with tortilla chips. Just right for a light and nutritious lunch.
This is the entrance to the former Shrigley & Hunt stained glass works. Now the building is used as student accommodation.
I think the monogram has been executed with great style.
Cloudy day and soft light, picked a dandelion on my walk. The macro sensor on the 15 Ultra is a lot of fun.
English farmhouse cheddar made from goat milk.
I bought this on special last week. It is absolutely astonishing!
Firm yet creamy. A subtle tang. Some sweetness.
That's lunch sorted.
Enjoy with some fruit and a plain digestive biscuit.
I looked up to see the lovely clear sky, and noticed this mast, bedecked with folded and directional dipoles, microwave dish, etc and wondered why I had zero phone signal.
