Critical analysis
Overall I believe the animation came out satisfactory but it could have been much better, I find doing Maya animation quite tedious so getting motivation to put 100% effort into it has been a struggle. I think I achieved what I aimed to with the modelling and texturing of the spring, however I am still a bit unsure about the colour of the eyelids and body of the spring. The rig worked in all aspects apart from the hands which was extremely confusing. This meant animating the spring took twice as long as keeping the hands in check was quite time consuming and problematic, every time I moved the body, the hands seemed to move in strange ways.
I think I did well conveying emotion 100% via the eyes as I decided not to add a mouth, eyebrows or other facial features. I focused mainly on the blinking to show the spring was thinking and used the direction the eyes are looking to convey what the spring is thinking about. The main issue of giving the animation a sense of realism was getting the bouncing to look cartoony while still looking real, I did this by adding a slightly exaggerated style of stretching and squashing.
The first few bounces I’m quite proud of as they worked really well however the final bounce and landing is a bit strange but I didn’t have time to rectify the problem. When the spring is trying to lift the heavy object I used the subtle movements of the hands to show preparation and to show the loss of grip I used a combination of subtle hand shaking and the eyelids with a combination of eye rotation. At the end I added a comedic look at the camera in true Warner Bothers cartoon style to show that the spring knew he was doomed.
