A lift descends at the top of the image, while two cyclists talk to an attendant in a white hat and black tie standing by the lift entrance at the bottom of the image.
Actually two parallel tunnels running in opposite directions, the old Elbe tunnel opened in 1911 and conveys vehicles, pedestrians and bicylces from Hamburg town to Hamburg port 24 m below the surface of the Elbe river.
