Trust: a firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.
Humans have a natural disposition to trust and to judge trustworthiness. This can be traced to the neurobiological structure and activity of a human brain. Some studies indicate that trust can be altered e.g. by the application of oxytocin.
Oxytocin (not to be confused with OxyContin, the painkiller at the centre of the opioid epidemic) has been called the “love chemical,” the “hug hormone,” the “elixir of trust,” and even the “moral molecule,” among other monikers.
There is a lot of hype out there, the snake-oil salesmanship rampant in a shady industry of sprays, balms, and elixirs claiming to harness the power of oxytocin to win friends, lovers, and clients.
The intense interest in oxytocin has been a double-edged sword. While science tries to sort out the nuances of what the hormone does and how, the popular press and the public have run wild with the concept of a feel-good hormone that could seemingly right society’s wrongs.
As studies continue some people wait in hope and some of us wonder why you would need a "chemical additive" to make friends.
(in my opinion messing with your brain's chemistry is a risky business).

I was asked by a friend to post this shot. Earlier this year one of the competitions for CAPA was called Altered reality and this was my entry.

It's been a while since I've worked up a still life (in my tiny studio). I found an old book to alter for the setting, and a tarnished stamp holder. Stamps are now sold on sheets, not in rounds like years ago. 2 Lil Owls texture, actions, and preset were used.

Questo aspetto della psicologia umana mi ha sempre
affascinato e volevo "esplorarlo" fotograficamente.
Con l'aiuto di Laura ho deciso di interpretarlo nel modo più
semplice e quotidiano possibile e le foto che vedrete faranno parte di
questa fase... ma lo studio continuerà ...

I have received a number of e-mails about the trolley in the background and a friend of mine, Paul Mitchell, took the time and trouble to alter the image to illustrate the point quite nicely.
Here is an excerpt from his letter:
"Now regarding the latest pic of the Capone car and the streetcar...here is the shot without the train. I just can't get my head around that trolley... its too brightly lit and looks like plastic. Also it doesn't feel right in that spot at that time."
I have to agree with Paul, although with some reservations; and here is my response to his critique:
"The trolley is unnecessary and even distracting, especially in the color photo.
In some ways, though, it does work in the black and white image, perhaps because the yellow of the lights along with the yellow of the trolley is reduced to just lighter tones.
It's funny, while setting up that particular shot, I kept going back and forth on whether or not to have anything in that area of the picture.
When I placed the lighted trolley there, it added a bit of "sparkle" to an otherwise drab, monochromatic palette."
So in conclusion, Paul's altered version completely works, composition wise and in terms of visually telling the story.
Though, like a conundrum [ a puzzle without an answer ] both
images are viable and depends on where you are sitting in this
universe.
