Day 27 of 365

I try to add Aura to my photo blog pictures as often as I can, because it makes them more valuable to me. This time I cropped my picture purposely this way so that I could use edges of that soda pop fridge to my excuse to add this picture to 'Season of Blackness', plus it makes it a nice 'frame within frames' picture. I wish I could use Aura more often, but she has a bedtime when darkness descends and therefore I often have settle for her sleeping cat.

We haven't give Aura much products that contain added sugar (she's now 21 months). Candies, ice-cream and soda pop are a no go. I know this is very controversial topic when it comes to parenthood and while different people choose different approaches, no one knows how things turn out because children are self-acting humans and not robots which we could program. And I know this is a lost fight in the end, but we think/believe/imagine (choose appropriate word) that getting raised up with certain kind 'normal food' builds a foundation for healthy eating habits. Then when she gets older she will of course learn to eat candies as well, but when it happens she is already used to certain kind of eating habits and candies doesn't substitute something else in her mind, which might happen if we would let her eat those right from the beginning. Anyway, the point is that Aura doesn't yet know any of these things, but she is getting more and more interested about them. In café where we often go, she admires the colorful labels and many of these products are, in fact, targeted to children. This makes me think that deep down somewhere in her mind she already knows how to sort out children and adult culture from each other. There's some overlap of course, but it is still interesting to watch how she unconsciously pays attention only to things which she has some sort of possibility to enjoy and understand. It reminds me of old philosophical thesis, which claims that mankind creates only those problems which it has possibility to solve by itself. Natural wisdom of children and human kind, I guess. Which includes candies too.

Ps. Still considering different options regarding how to change course of my photo blog to something more easily to update.

Pilot cutters relied on speed and seaworthiness to secure business and Alpha is a prime example of the type. Long admired by yachtsmen, Alpha was one of many pilot cutters that were converted into yachts and her yachting career started 100 years ago.

As a yacht, Alpha was famously owned by Royal Cruising Club flag officer Sir Sidney Rowlatt, who enjoyed nothing more than sailing her in the gusty conditions she excels in. Alpha underwent various modifications over the years, but thanks to substantial restoration work, she is now again sailing as designed.

This is a shot I've actually wanted to get the past few trips and for one reason or another it just never worked out. On the trip previous to this one, on the day I planned to get it and unbeknownst to me, the Seas closed early for a private party. This time I just arrived about 10 minutes before park close and the pavilion was already pretty empty. Still with everyone moving around it took til about 10 minutes after the official park close for me to get this shot.

It was a pretty basic setup for this shot. I shot with the tripod fully collapsed to get a really low view looking upwards. I believe this helps add to the grandeur of the space. It was shot with the Nikon 14-24 2.8 (of course) and bracketed 5 shots. I blended 3 of these using luminosity masks to get my base image before post processing. Enjoy.

The first car I ever rented in Europe was an Alpha Romeo. I drove it from Frankfurt to Cologne for the weekend. It was equipped with an early GPS (ca 1998) which was programmed to return to the rentacar shop. So for three days, I had to put up with a German lady telling me to do a u-turn in German at every possible opportunity.

Setting standards too high often leads to a feeling of not being enough. If the goal is always to achieve everything extraordinarily, much pressure builds up quickly because not achieving equals failure quite often. A narrow field of vision frequently causes another problem: tunnel vision - a one-way street where compromises are rare.

However, if there is no room to experiment, the beauty of coincidences will always stay unknown. Though the small surprises sometimes sweep through life like a storm and mess things up, they often let everything shine in new splendor that makes being so vibrant.
