Puente Romano ( Roman Bridge ) - the iconic symbol of Asturias in the town of Cangas de Onis, the first capital of Asturias and the gateway to the eastern part of the Picos de Europa mountain range.
The bridge was originally built by the Romans, but what we now can see dates from the 13th century. The cross hanging from the middle arch is a replica of the famous Cruz de la Victoria (Victory Cross), the official symbol of Asturias that celebrates the victory of King Pelayo over the Moors in the Battle of Covadonga in 722.

At times, we thought we were in a real rally: our 4X4 drivers gave the impression to race, the odometer exceeded the 90 km/h (56 mph) on the track, all in the middle of clouds of dust.
I was never afraid, however, because they drove very well, and the 4x4 were so well suspended that we were practically not shaken.
Here, our driver had started with a bang and got a little ahead. Then, he had the good idea to stop us at the top of a hill, the time to make us admire 2 other cars of our expedition that were rushing behind us to catch up with us.

" He froze, becoming stone still. As the hover climbed the hill to the palace, his shoulders sank, and he returned his gaze to the window. "She's my alpha," he murmured, with a haunting sadness in his voice.
Alpha.
Cress leaned forward, propping her elbows on her knees, "Like the star?"
"What star?"
She stiffened, instantly embarrassed, and scooted back from him again. "Oh. Um. In a constellation, the brightest star is called the alpha. I thought maybe you meant that she's...like...your brightest star." Looking away, she knotted her hands in her lap, aware that she was blushing furiously now and this beast of a man was about to realize what an over-romantic sap she was.
But instead of sneering or laughing, Wolf sighed, "Yes," he said, his gaze climbing up to the full moon that had emerged in the blue evening sky.
"Exactly like that.” "
(From the book "Cress" by Marissa Meyer)
And of course you should listen to some great tune meanwhile:

It was a cold and windy morning for photography - unfortunately I couldn't get close enough to these Shovelers for any decent portraits but instead observed their behaviour instead - here is what I presume to be the alpha making himself large as any hen approached to be sure the other males knew who the boss was.
Late in the afternoon, BNSF sent local L CHI1041 29A from Galesburg to Barstow and back with a trio of older EMD warriors, the return trip under the care of a much-maligned old BN SD40-2, seen here leaving the hole at East Alpha, IL.Another full day of time well spent on the "Peavine" and BNSF made it pretty worthwhile.
