P.S. Correct ID-Oriental bee hawkmoth (Cephonodes hylas virescens)
Commonly called the Football Lily, the Pin Cushion Lily and the Blood Lily or the Blood Flower , it belongs to the family Amaryllidae. The leaves are long and sword-shaped, and two or more of them appear after the flowers open or when the short lived flowers die down.
Have a lovely time.
The above shot of reeds in bloom (local name-Rairuang)symbolizes the spirit and aspiration of the people in this season of the year. The weather is just fine for having a nice time . Educational institutions are still closed for the winter. It’s also time for chalking out plans and strategies for the year. Once the season changes, everyone has to go back to work in right earnest. Time to make the most of the season. I am, of course, speaking for the people of warmer climes.
Have a nice winter, everyone, including friends in colder climes.

These are the biggest known fruits of any creeper found in the forest in this part of the world. These are not edible. The local name is KAWI (pronounced KOI)(P.S-Bot.name:Entada pursaetha, Sea Bean)
The fruit grows about 2 feet in length and the seed grows upto 3 inches in diameter.
In the earlier era when life was simple and basically agrarian, without cable TV and mobile phones, the children played games with these seeds and is, therefore, associated with the traditional games of the area. It now has been totally forgotten and relegated and consigned at best as a showpiece.
The sun sets with a promise to rise again tomorrow.
Thanks friends for the visit and comments

Lizards of different sizes. The big, the red and the small.
Besides the butterflies and moths, these are the only wildlife seen in the vicinity of the campus. They were framed from the windows of my office room for your viewing pleasure. It's great to be close to Nature.
A very lovely Wednesday to you all and thanks for your visit.
The day 12th March,2010 was an occasion to remember for the people Mizoram. On this day, Spring Festival, locally known as "Chapchar Kut" was celebrated as in earlier years. But this year was different and memorable .On this joyous occasion the city danced away to glory to set a new World Record in Bamboo Dance, locally known as "Cheraw"when 10,736 people danced the dance together at a time. It is reported that this feat has broken the record set at Cebu in the Phillipines where 7,700 people danced together. Here is a report and glimpses of the occasion captured at random.(posted on 13th March,2010 morning)

Red Helen ( Papilio helenus) butterflies in flight. I'll be traveling for the next four days and would therefore be visiting your stream only at stop-overs, as and when time permits.
Thanks for the visit and Have a Lovely Sunday and a great Week ahead.
Throughout Autumn the flower bed of marigold flowers outside my office room was dominated by Cruiser butterflies. Strangely enough, most of the time there were only male Cruisers which were easily distinguishable by their brown-plain color. Lady Cruisers were rarely seen. When they made an appearance there would be commotion all around. The males won't let them feed in peace. Please see it for yourself as depicted above and below.
Longhorn (Cerambycidae) beetle.

Have a lovely weekend , everyone
During the year I uploaded 23 varieties of butterfly and 4 of moth. They were appreciated by all so much so that 19 of them hit Explore. It is, therefore, befitting that my last but one upload for this year should be one of the latest shots of a butterfly.
Have a great festive time, friends
Thanks everyone.
African Praying Mantis (Sphodromantis lineola ) Male perhaps .This species is known for its macabre practice of the male literally losing its head at the time of mating, being devoured by the female mate.

This must be the last visitor for this season. (This one is different and distinct from the Red-spot one)
This species is not very common here.I saw it only for the second time and that too just for one click. Here it is.
You remember a pop group called Boney M ? Their Christmas songs are a sensation and great hits to this day from the seventies. They were in town last night for live performance. This Christmas theme was part of the decorations of the entrance to the venue where they were to perform.
Merry Christmas to you all.
I'm homeward bound, travelling thro' country road.
Will catch up with you all in a day or two.
Have a great weekend with Happy Halloween. Thanks .
