It was the same old story, sunshine and a rainbow just before it came; just rain when it came into view - shouldn't complain though as still an acceptable shot with the dark clouds and at least there were no shadows!

Ruston and Hornsby 20DL Class 4-wheel diesel-mechanical (Works No.331264 built in 1952) at Mixconcrete Aggregates, Charlecote, Warwickshire, 30th March 1970. The sand and gravel extraction industries made extensive use of narrow gauge railways, with some even lasting into the 1980s. Along with peat extraction, this was one of the last industries to make significant use of narrow gauge industrial railways in the UK.

Taken on a cold winters morning at the Hall's gravel pit Blackfield in January 1987 I'm told it was minus 10 at the time.

31118 & 31213 pass Wellingborough Station box with a southbound aggregate train on 7th May 1983.

Both locos are seen not far from their place of birth in Loughborough, with 31118 being produced in 1959 and withdrawn in February 1989.

The trailing loco, 31213 was built in 1960 and survives as 31465 (renumbered in 1985) and is currently located at Barrow Hill having served as a Network Rail test train loco.

Wellingborough Station signalbox was closed in 1987 when Leicester PSB took over.

In the consist are a number of Bardon JGAs which appeared on the Mendip routes for a while around this time having not been seen in these parts since the early 90s.

A mini-series following my 44mm-high Homies character Pelon, where he poses for photo ops at potholes on the streets of Mount Tabor Park.

Leadership fixes potholes, not patching.

Chronic neglect of Portland's streets is manifesting in the burgeoning number and size of dangerously large potholes across the city. Here, pothole road damage is seen in Mount Tabor Park, Portland, Oregon.

Engineering: From a technical perspective, a great deal of information can be gleaned from a deep pothole, as it provides a cross-section-view of the pavement structural section, or lack thereof, as in this case. Here, the asphalt wearing surface is heavily pitted, highly oxidized and brittle, confirming many years of neglect. At this pothole, the asphalt layer is thick; confirming this road has received an overlay, but perhaps covering up this pothole without first repairing it. The base course layer is hard to characterize because of the quantity of water present. Roadway base course should be well-graded, faceted aggregate so as to provide optimum particle interlock. This dangerous pothole, in the traveled way and where pedestrians cross, can be repaired by cutting out and reconstructing, but simply patching or overlaying will rapidly lead to a repeat failure, preventing a level of service, or service life, that should be reasonably expected of it.
