The addition of Pingue's hand cured pork belly (Niagara region using exclusively Canadian hogs) that's been sautéed with onions, and roasted, moisture removed (and caramelized) Yukon Gold potatoes to the batard's dough adds sweet flavours helps make a dense, moisture-rich crumb that's been lightly seasoned with house made herb pesto (pine nut-free). The paper-thin slices of potato add both garnish and a slightly nutty sweet flavour to the spongy bread.

I recently took a trip to the State Archives to check out what they might have on file regarding Northern State Hospital. There is a plethora of material. I will be going back many times I'm thinking.

On the rightmost two-thirds of this photo is one of the largest multi-use additions in Midtown Sacramento. The tall victorian--bereft of fancy gables or any ornate decoration--was augmented with a two-story addition pushing forward to the sidewalk on L Street and even bumping out about three feet extra to meet the 18th Street sidewalk. It has two shop spaces plus an upstairs office and apartment (likely originally two apartments or a single flat).

Olive Bistro, the latest addition to A D Singh’s chain of Olives, is located in Gurgaon’s budding Cyber Hub. It is located on the first floor, placed strategically in front of the Cyber Hub auditorium. It just felt delightful in walking into its Outdoor seating. The picket white fences, the garden feel type of seating made way to a feeling of mushiness and warmth. I have always been a fan of alfresco dining. Be it the warmth of the sun on a wintery afternoon or a breezy sultry evening, the ambience does make a difference for me! So this place, in the heart (almost) of Gurgaon definitely bowled me over.
The staff were friendly, courteous and polite and took extreme care to reach out when needed. Well informed about the dishes and were giving ample suggestions when asked for.
We were there for the Sunday brunch and that is one lavish spread. There are multiple options for Appetizers and drinks with ample vegetarian selects. The course started off with The Olive special Caesar salad which is a must try, a mezze platter of Pita n Nachos with dips of hummus, babaghanoush, tashi and drinks. The mock tail that I had ordered “Litchi tornado” tasted artificial and nothing like Litchi, but the “Mojito” was perfect. Rest of the cocktails tasted good but the Red wine Sangria was the best of the lot for me.
The others included Potato & Jalapeno poppers (one that was immensely loved by all), batter coated pickled vegetables which gave out a hint of tanginess to the fried vegetables, crumb fried fish (being a fish lover, I really liked it), cottage cheese sliders and chicken sliders. The Cottage cheese and Chicken sliders came with portion of twos and the chicken burger was one of the best we have had in quite a while, crunchy patty with lettuce, onion and tomato. We also ordered for the Eggs Benedict with spinach – and this one took the prize, subtle with sautéed spinach, tasty and exactly the way Eggs Benedict should be made.
Done with the starters we decided on to try out on few of the items on the mains menu. Ordered for “Grilled Lemon Mustard Basa”, “Herbs roast chicken”, “BBQ pork Spare ribs” and “Garlic & Dill marinated Grilled prawns” along with one helping (read big) of Penne in white sauce with grilled chicken. The one word to describe each dish should be “amazing”. Every dish was cooked to perfection and just as beautifully served, with accompaniments of Mashed Potato and buttered vegetables, mushy peas, pesto and sundried tomatoes. The contrasting flavours were an absolute delight.
Dessert platter consisted of Flourless Chocolate torte, Lemon Tart, Blueberry Cheesecake, Banana moist cake and Waffles with Maple syrup. Waffles were fresh, warm and crispy as needed and tasted yummy with maple syrup. The lemon tart was bursting with a bitter, sweet, tangy flavor all at one go when taken a bite into.
It was a very nice experience, well who wouldn’t love good food with an amazing ambience. Will be definitely, making a visit here again. All in all the place is a must go!
Košice meteorite
The glare of the bolide on the night of February 28, 2010, illuminated streets and interiors of apartments at some location in eastern Slovakia and northern Hungary.
In addition, cannon-like bursts or series of low frequency blasts were heard. Due to bad weather, cloudy skies, and scattered showers, the Central European Fireball Network (operated by Dr. Pavel Spurny of the Czech Academy of Sciences) did not take direct optical records of the bolide and the Slovak Video Meteor Network (operated by the first author) was not operational that night. So, at first sight, it seemed that there were no scientific records of this event. Fortunately, fast photoelectric sensors on seven automated fireball stations in the Czech Republic (6) and Austria (1) detected the illumination of the sky caused by the bolide, which made it possible to determine exact time and duration of the bolide and estimate its brightness.
The bolide reached its maximum brightness of at least magnitude -18 in one huge flare. Later on, several surveillance camera data were published showing the moment when the night turned into day for a second, but only two videos from Hungary (Orkeny village, Fazzi Daniella and Vass Gabor; Telki village, contact persons Sarneczky Krisztian, and Kiss Laszlo) actually captured the fireball itself. Thanks to calibration of videos by several members of the Hungarian Astronomical Association (MCSE, www.mcse.hu) contributing (in particular, Antal Igaz) and a trajectory analysis by Dr. Jiri Borovicka of the Czech Academy of Sciences gave the hope that significant numbers of meteorite fragments reached the surface. He also calculated the impact area, near the town of Kosice in eastern Slovakia. The data from the Local Seismic Network of Eastern Slovakia (project led by Professor Moczo of Comenius University) confirmed the atmospheric trajectory as well.
The expedition consisting of scientists and graduate students of the Astronomical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (under the leadership of the second author), Comenius University in Bratislava (under the leadership of the first author), and the Czech Academy of Sciences (under the leadership of Pavel Spurny) started to sweep meadows and forests at the calculated area. The first meteorite was discovered by Juraj Toth on March 20th. By October 6th, 77 meteorite fragments were found.
The heaviest fragment weighs 2.17 kg and was found by Tereza Krejcova; the smallest pieces were only about 0.5 g (finder Julius Koza). The total mass recovered is 4.3 kg. There were 28 finders: Juraj Toth, Diana Buzova, Marek Husarik, Tereza Krejcova, Jan Svoren, Julius Koza, David Capek, Pavel Spurny, Stanislav Kaniansky, Eva Schunova, Marcel Skreka, Dusan Tomko, Pavol Zigo, Miroslav Seben, Jiri Silha, Leonard Kornos, Marcela Bodnarova, Peter Veres, Jozef Nedoroscik, Zuzana Mimovicova, Zuzana Krisandova, Jaromir Petrzala, Stefan Gajdos, Tomas Dobrovodsky, Peter Delincak, Zdenko Bartos, Ales Kucera, and Jozef Vilagi.
Preliminary as well as complex mineralogic analysis implies that the recovered meteorite is classified as an ordinary H5 chondrite (Dr. J. Haloda, Czech Geological Survey, D. Ozdin, and P. Uher, Comenius University in Bratislava). The authors are grateful to all collaborators mentioned above. More details about the meteorite will be published in the near future.
Museum of the Capital Prague - Main Building (Muzeum hlavního města Prahy)
The museum is housed in a Neo-Renaissance building, once built for the then royal museum of the capital, Prague. The exhibits represent the history of Prague art from the time of prehistory until the year 1784. The most unique and attractive exhibit of the museum is the Langweil model of the city of Prague from the years 1826-1834. It is a unique document, how the Old Town, the Kleinseite (little side of the river) and the Prague Castle looked like at the turn of the 19th and 20th century.
The second half of the 19th century was a time when many enthusiasts, patriots and people who were interested founded different museums around history and science. As the third Prague museum, the Prague Capital Museum was established in 1883. The museum was first discussed in the city council in 1877. Great services were rendered by Wácslav Vladivy Tomek at the head of the commission on the content and practical installation of the museum, Dr. Miroslav Tyrš as the director of the First Committee of the Museum, who also brought together the first, then still small museum collection, as well as its first director, archaeologist and historian Břetislav Jelínek. The collections were finally exhibited in the former cafe in the Na Poříčí City Park and by that in 1883 the Prague City Museum was founded. The café-pavilion was built in 1878 by František Saller and Jan Beninger, but its rooms soon failed to meet the growing collections. Therefore, with architect Antonín Wiehl a new building project was commissioned. However, he has renounced the task and the project of a Neo-Renaissance building was developed by Antonín Balšánek.
The new building was added to the old Café Pavilion in 1896 - 1898 and opened to the public in 1900. In the middle of the main façade the magnificent building has a prominent ridge, crowned with a tympanum, in which is a relief of Ladislav Šaloun, with the theme "history, science, art and craftsmanship are forming the fame of our past. On the highest peak of the tympanum is put Šaloun's allegorical figure of Prague dating from 1896. This statue was shot down in the fighting of the May revolution of 1945 by a German tank. Its copy was created by sculptor Miloslav Šonka after the diminished model from Šaloun's estate found in 1985. Other decorations of the building were performed by sculptor František Stránský (sculptures of Christianity and paganism), sculptor Vojtěch Šaff (prehistory, history, monuments) on the back facade and sculptor František Hergesel (history) on the side of Karlín. There is also the great coat of arms of the city of Prague by O. Šmejkal. In the interior there are stucchi of Vilém Amort and sculptures by Ludvík Wurzel, František Hergesel and Antonín Procházka. Above the landing there is a panorama of Prague of Antonio Sacchetti. Above the panorama are seven views of the city of Karl Liebscher and Václav Jansa.
In the museum collections, there are interesting and historically and artistically valuable objects from various areas of human activity that document the historical and cultural development of the city from prehistoric times to the present. The museum has an extensive archaeological collection, a collection of decorative art, porcelain, furniture, one of the largest collections of European guild monuments, a collection of works of art of unique Gothic wood carvings to Baroque wood carvings to the collection of drawings and paintings by painters of the 19th and 20th century, who captured the transformations of Prague. It contains a collection of the works of Josef Mánes, including his original calendar plate of the Astronomical Clock, as well as rare views of Prague, especially a large collection of works by Vinzenz Morstadt and a collection of photographs. Famous is also the model of Prague from the years 1826 - 1834, the work of the painter Anton Langweil, unique for its documentary and artistic value. On the surface of 20 m2, a few thousand houses with every detail on the façade were shown, with precise color, with sculpturally executed arbours, with engraved sgraffiti and the exact number of windows, doors, statues and other details. Mostly hard cardboard with drawings on paper, but also wood and other materials were used.
In addition to the main building, the museum also has a publicly accessible exposition at the Výtoň, where history of Podskalí (group of houses) is represented, an exposition of Vyšehrad in the fortress Vyšehrad and several other depots. In 1941, the Archaeological Museum was transferred to the museum, founded by J. A. Jira in the Hanspaulka Castle (a small one). This exposition was abolished at the end of the sixties of the 20th century, to make room for the huge number of artefacts discovered during archaeological excavations in connection with the construction of the subway.

Sugar Cat is the latest cat addition at the house. He was a stray hanging around my office, really hungry.
He wasn't feral, he's extremely friendly, vocal and BFF with the other cats. Not to mention a pure bred flame Siamese. When I brought him home, he had been living in the bushes at the office for about ten days. Only thing I can figure is that he was dumped or maybe lost. I fed him a few times and he started following me around with his tail straight up wanting to be petted. I couldn't leave him there to get run over in the traffic.
~ one more addition to the aquarium.
Finally we made visit to the world famous Birch Aquarium at Scripps in La Jolla, California. The variety of sea life was both astonishing and very beautiful. This was the first time I have taken photos of sea life through glass - thank goodness the glass was quite clean. I was very pleased with how my photos turned out. I would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area. Take a visit on a weekday when it's not as busy.
The moorish idol, Zanclus cornutus ("Crowned Scythe"), is a small perciform marine fish, the sole representative of the family Zanclidae (from the Greek zagkios, "oblique"). A common inhabitant of tropical to subtropical reefs and lagoons, the moorish idol is notable for its wide distribution throughout the Indo-Pacific. A number of butterflyfishes (all of the genus Heniochus) closely resemble the moorish idol.
It is said the moorish idol got its name from the Moors of Africa, who purportedly believe the fish to be a bringer of happiness. Moorish idols are also popular aquarium fish, but despite their popularity, they are notorious for their short aquarium lifespans and difficulty.

2015 Vacation, 27 Oct, Iowa, Illinois, Chicago, Toledo
In addition to the day being Trains Magazine day (from Trains' former address of 1027 N 7th St), it was M*A*S*H corporal day for us as we passed through Radar O'Reilly's hometown of Ottumwa, Iowa in the morning and Max Klinger's town of Toledo, Ohio at night.
In between, we saw lots of harvested cornfields on the way into Chicago on the California Zephyr, as well as crossing the Mississippi River on BNSF's new bridge.
Despite the light rain in Chicago, I walked to Roosevelt Road and watched some of Metra's commuter rush hour. The area around Roosevelt Road has changed a lot since I was last there 11 years ago, when there were a lot of vacant lots and old freight houses and warehouses, are now shopping areas.
I spent most of the time watching trains south of Union Station, but walked across the Chicago River to check out the departure of a Rock Island Line train from LaSalle St Station, which was in a concrete canyon between two more new shopping areas.
11 years ago, the White Palace diner at Canal and Roosevelt had bare lots around it, filled with the delivery trucks and cop cars of its customers. Today, it is wedged into a new shopping center, a bit of history still serving customers in the new era of its neighborhood.
We left town on time on the Capitol Limited, en route to Chicago. Amtrak's dining car menus have been standardized all over the country and the food offerings in the Capitol's diner were the same as those on the CZ.
I stayed up to take a walk on the platform at Toledo, where I discovered that new electric 662 that had come east on the Zephyr the day before we did, was behind the P42s on the point. After that, it was time for bed
Built between 1902 and 1906, this Beaux Arts-style building was designed by Joseph Miller Huston to house the state government of Pennsylvania. The building was constructed around a nucleus consisting of a heavily modified temporary capitol building, which was built in 1898-99 by Henry Ives Cobb after the previous capitol building, built in 1822 on the same site as the present building, was destroyed by a fire in 1897. The only surviving portion of the previous 1822 Capitol is the Ryan Office Building, which was built in 1893-94, and originally served as the Executive, Library & Museum Building, which was not directly connected to the Capitol building, allowing it to survive the incident with minimal damage.
The building was the subject of a graft and corruption scandal after its completion, which led to four people being sent to prison on charges of corruption and bribery, including the building’s architect. As a result, the rest of the complex was laid out by architect Arnold W. Brunner, whom designed the landscape of the Capitol Complex to the rear of the building, as well as the North and South (Irvis) Office Buildings, which were constructed during the 1920s, flanking the rear of the capitol and framing a central courtyard behind the building. One block to the east, a quad known as the Soldier’s Grove was created, which is framed by the Forum Building and Finance Building, which visually connects the capitol building to the State Street Sailors and Soldiers Memorial Bridge, with all three structures having been completed in the 1930s on the site of the old 8th Ward neighborhood, which was removed via eminent domain to allow for the state government office buildings to be constructed adjacent to the new capitol. Thus, the capitol is part of a larger state government office complex built between 1893 and 1987, which complements the building’s architectural style and houses office space and major amenities for the Pennsylvania state government.
The building features a granite exterior with corinthian columns and pilasters, roman lattice transoms and window mullion patterns, a balustrade along the roof, oxeye windows, semicircular and triangular pediment headers over the windows, one-over-one double-hung windows, two-story porticoes at the front facades of the central and side wings with pediments, decorative sculptures and friezes, a green tile roof, cornices with modillions and dentils, large staircases up to the building’s entrances, arched openings at the entrances with decorative keystones, vaulted ceilings, and decorative light fixtures, doric pilasters on the side facades, domes at the crossings of the central and side wings with copper and green tile roofs, a central dome based on the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome, with paired corinthian pilasters, festoons in the panels between the pilasters, a balustrade around the base of the drum, which is ringed by windows with decorative pediments, multiple dormers clad in copper on the dome, and a lantern with a drum that resembles a smaller version of the drum below the dome, topped with a concavely curved roof and golden statue known as “Commonwealth”, created by sculptor Roland Hinton Perry.
The building’s interior is clad in lavish materials and artisan decorations, including marble walls and trim, murals on the walls and ceilings, a tall rotunda below the dome with a grand staircase and multiple tiers of balconies and columns, a Moravian Pottery and Tile Works floor with symbols representing Pennsylvania culture and nature hand crafted by artisan Henry Chapman Mercer, sculptures, classical columns, trim panels, coffered ceilings, decorative crown moldings, chandeliers, sconces, and torchiere lamps, corinthian pilasters below the dome, broken pediments over major entrances, corridors with vaulted ceilings, and ornate glass display cases. The house and senate chambers, which sit in wings immediately adjacent to the north and south sides of the rotunda, and the supreme court chamber in the building, which is located in another wing of the building, are also lavishly decorated with murals, decorative trim, ornate ceilings, and stained glass windows.
The capitol building received a rear addition to the east in 1986-1987, which features a neoclassical exterior with modern and postmodern flourishes, including glass domes, which is faced with a darker stone to differentiate it from the historic portion of the building, designed by Celli-Flynn Associates and H.F. Lenz Company to provide additional space in the building and a secure vehicle entrance. The addition features a large podium that supports a rooftop plaza with planters that create gardens around the building’s rear, with a large semi-circular recessed portion of the structure framing a large fountain and tiered garden that sits at the center of the visual axis, tying the rear of the State Capitol to the State Street Sailors and Soldiers Memorial Bridge across the block-long Soldier’s Grove Quad, and unifies the North and South (Irvis) office buildings into a single structure connected directly to the State Capitol and Ryan Office Building.
The State Capitol and historic portions of the State Capitol Complex were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The State Capitol Complex was listed as a National Historic Landmark in 2006, and saw a boundary increase in 2013 to include some previously omitted historic structures.

The Patty Granville Arts Center had a large addition made adding much needed lobby space, bathrooms, additional ticket booths, additional backstage facilities, and the new Multi-Use space called the Atrium. The upgarde also re-surfaced the entire outside of the Arts Complex making the entire Arts Complex have a more modern and up-to-date finish along with these modern columnized porch shielding the Texas sun from the windows making the building more energy efficient.
